A realist who thinks that TGF's album will have 5 radio singles released from it once Honest Man catches fire(which has yet to happen in the 3 months the song has been released)?

What am I blowing out of proportion exactly? I am reporting where Ed's CD charted well in the Netherlands. I never claimed worldwide domination for Ed, like some have done for TGF.

Did you read that first review??

Maybe some people out there like to know how the music they enjoy is doing on the charts.

Do you care how other people review the music that you like? Reviews are opinions. Chart numbers are at least measurable.

I enjoy keeping track of charts and sales numbers. So ...................... are there any new chart placements or sales numbers available for Alive?

It is still on the Netherlands chart at #44. Hopefully it sticks on the chart through the upcoming tour.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Aug 5 2010, 1:21 pm) *

God damnit, what's impressive or not impressive is the music.

You place way too much importance on this shit. As for us, look at Powderfinger (RIP), massive in Australia, basically nobodies outside of the country, would you call them successful? It's impressive what they've done in one country, but that's where major success ends. And in the end, who cares really?

If Ed wasn't selling the way he was in the Netherlands I'm not sure what you'd be doing with yourself now Nick, probably on the edge of a cliff somewhere pondering "is this really the end?" So you just keep on holding tight to that dream man!

You just broke the news to me on Powderfinger.... sad.gif My gf went to Australia 10 years ago and came back with Odyssey #5 as a gift, and I was hooked. I own everything they have put out (including singles and the EPs, except the Blue EP). I haven't been as big of a fan of their last two albums, but still.....it's a shame, and it's a shame they never got big outside of Australia.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

The Netherlands chart? Such a random chart to judge any measure of success. It's a tiny, tiny music market. It's like saying "Ohhh, Ed's album is #44 on the Tulsa album sales chart," but completely off the radar everywhere else in the world. This guy was a major star and now is clinging to the charts in one tiny country less than month after the album came out.

Exactly what I've been saying for a few weeks now. It's like each week, someone picks a random chart from an even smaller country. Hey look, Alive is the #47th ranked album on the Luxembourg charts!

The members of Live haven't been major stars for quite some time outside of the Netherlands and to a lesser extent Australia. Together they still have a good touring base worldwide mainly do to Throwing Copper and their 90's success. After the break-up, they are basically starting over with smaller fanbases.

The fact that Ed was able to maintain a good portion of Live's Netherlands fanbase is impressive. I'm sure TGF is hoping to do the same.

Whose got access to Soundscan? Nick can't you kindly ask Ed to tell you where the sales #'s are. I am sure you may know this or can ask him. I am sure he has access. You have to be in the industry to get an account at their site I believe.

But he's not even holding on in the Netherlands, which is supposed to be the "epicenter" of the LIVE universe. He's at #44 less than a month after the release. That is ABYSMAL.

On an independent label and without the name Live, it is far from abysmal. On his upcoming tour of the Netherlands, two of his dates are already sold out, and the rest of the shows are selling very well.

Ed's health in the Netherlands is still very strong.

That's just it, the album has stickers that in an indirect way reference Live, and pick apart quotes from the past about the band.

The majority of sales for Alive are going to happen at shows and from his website, both are not reported to soundscan.

I have a question, how do you see The Gracious Few's album selling? Do you think it is going to be a huge seller in the US, or worldwide? If so, you very likely you are going to be letdown.

As long as Ed is making music that I love and continues to tour, I'm happy.

So when Ed's album keeps not selling, and continues to free fall down the charts, you'll just claim that the album is selling amazingly but the sales just aren't being reported.
