Empire is GREAT. It and Operation: Mindcrime are my favorites.

+Ed+, EMI won't be promoting the album release, just distributing.

Damn! Sorry!

Here's a sticker that was on the front of the European version of Alive.

Notice how the "LIVE" part of "ALIVE" is coloured differently to the rest of the text.

IPB Image

It's hard to see in the pic but at the bottom there is the following quote:

"Ed Kowalczyk is a powerhouse singer .... that drops musical smart bombs with unerring precision" - Rolling Stone.

One would think those two statements are related and are talking about Ed... but check this out!

QUOTE

Paul Evans (RollingStone, issue 688)

An instrumental attack as supercharged as Soundgarden's ("The Dam at Otter Creek"), freely suggestive lyrics and vocal phrasing that recall Michael Stipe ("Selling the Drama"), whisper-to-a-scream dynamics à la Nirvana – this Pennsylvania quartet seems ready-made for alternative stardom. It's not that they're calculating imitators. Rather, Live capture the anger and ache of the moment in riveting songs driven home by expert players. Edward Kowalczyk is a powerhouse singer; guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer Chad Gracey drop musical smart bombs with unerring precision. Live strive for an epic sound; almost always they cinch it.

Part of the statement is talking about the rest of the band!

Dan, you are absolutely correct. When we saw this quote on Ed's gig advertisement some couple of weeks ago, I immediately remembered that it was said before and not only about him. I remember me and OutToDry paid attention to it. Purely horrible

Total Hack with Ed. He really doesn't care about C&C&P and goes out of his way to push them aside at every avenue. This is another example. Way to point this out again guys.

It's sad indeed that he puts that kind of a sticker on his CDs. Then again, we know from CT' letter that the managers in the music industry can be total assholes... so how much does Ed actually have to do with that?

It's very possible that it was done by the label, but I think we stated earlier, Ed has to ok the artwork, stickers and the like. It's part of the new release process. I know this personally from my days working at WMG

Yeah I would be surprised if Ed was behind it, but wouldn't your ethics and morals tell you that when you found out about it you'd want to put a stop to it? Guess not when it comes to the EK and money.

Yeah that's pretty crap, but I don't blame Ed for it. It was probably done by the label and okayed by Ed because he's done a million interviews and had a million reviews, and probably doesn't remember where the quote came from, much less it's original context.

I could see where he could overlook it... if it weren't from ROLLING STONE. How many features has the band had in Rolling Stone? Not many and certainly not anything recent.

Ed has a hacked up review of TC posing as a review of his album. That was over a decade ago. I'm sorry, I love the album, but that is misleading and weak. I don't believe Ed wasn't aware of what was being put on his solo debut "Special Edition" album. That quote should NOT be on there.

He also added "that" to the quote, which is not in the quote at all.

I would laugh my ass off if TGF put on their album:

"They drop musical smart bombs with unerring precision - Rolling Stone"

but I don't think they would ever stoop so low.

This deserves it's own thread. Thanks Dan for putting the effort to investigate this... plus this is the closest you have come to picking sides.

i remember a while ago a story about movie posters having bullshit quotes, not just out of context remarks from critics, but actually made up quotes from made up critics! They have since stopped making up quotes in the aftermath of the controversy. But none of the directors of the films knew this was going on nor did they have a say in it anyway, so why assume ed has any say with this situation? It's still pretty sad whichever way you look at it.

'cause this album is a much smaller production than any movie that has been made ever, and continuing the analogy Ed K. would be far more involved than just being a Director.

Apples to oranges.
