Nick I have no issue with Ed & his solo career. Some of the stuff you say is more than headscratching.

So, let me ask. It's been a month now. How many sales did A-live generate. CD's, digital, etc

I don't have access to that info. Some of the stuff you say is headscratching too.

The problem we have is that what once was Live haa moved into two very different directions, but the message board is still online and together.

I haven't been getting called on the carpet daily for trolling and talking total BS. A lot of people here are on you now. It's not simply me. There is a difference. I do make some fluff statements but I always premise my info as 'In My Opinion'. You never do that, only state it as a plain fact, black/white.

I do believe the TGF record will outsell Ed 10-1. It has more of what a larger majority of listeners want (genre & era's). I think the casual listener will purchase TGF's music. Ed pigeon holed himself with a very basic record (and I didn't say bad), which he was shooting for multi segments, Alternative, Christian and AC. How has he done so far. I know it's too early to tell. The poster (I forget their name at the moment) who said Ed's sold 50 tickets to one of his shows so far, make me think...wow is it really that bad???

Now I can be so far from the truth, but I think we're going to be hearing a lot from TGF. If Honest Man takes off and Crying Time gets on the air, watch out. They could release 5 more of these songs and they'd be hits to the rock n roll loving folks.

And I am ok with your musical tastes. I am not going to bash you for what you like and what you prefer.
Start me with a little John Lee Hooker and move it on up to the Beatles, Zep, Floyd, Who, Kiss, VH, Live & all the grunge/alt bands.

Now back onto Ed. I think his Euro tour will be very well attended. I think the larger cities in the US will have better crowds for Ed too.

My opinions on the matter:

-Neither Ed or TGF's album will be huge sellers. TGF may or may not debut higher than Ed did on US Billboard, but their stay on the chart will be limited. I still think Ed will have a higher overseas debut than TGF will in September.

-Both bands will be similar draws when it comes to the US tour. Neither Ed K. solo or the Gracious Few will be able to draw Live level crowds. That is why both acts are mainly booking under 1000 person venues. Ed will draw better in certain parts of the country than TGF will, and vice versa. However, touring will be more profitable for Ed, especially when you take overseas markets into account. He also has the flexibility of being able to tour solo with only a guitar and little overhead.

-Honest Man was released to radio in early May. If the song hasn't taken off yet, it probably never will.

I also forgot to mention that Sully Erna of Godsmack, Grinderman, and The Gorillaz are also releasing their new discs on September 14.

Link.

Gorillaz have released a CD this year already.

Empire actually, and distributed by... guess who... EMI!

EMI's distribution will likely be better than what Ed had, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

They better do a better job than Epic did with Audioslave, Live and Oasis during that awful year. They failed to promote all 3 cds. But today is the day of deja vu... I also said that some time ago....

QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Aug 5 2010, 4:38 am) *

I have no problem with TGF being together. Just because I am not a fan of most of their music, doesn't mean that the band shouldn't exist. Certain people love old school rock, and TGF works for them. Totally cool.

Back on topic, my favorite 3 tracks from Alive after having the CD for a month are: Drive, Fire on the Mountain, and Just in Time.

Borders is the last place I would ever buy an album. They are always priced over anyone else. This CD lists at $9.99 and you paid $16.99.

Do yourself a favor one day. Go to Best Buy, pick 10 cd's and check the price. Then go compare at Borders. You will shit your pants because of the difference.

Regardless - glad you enjoy the album too.

Agree wholeheartedly. I've got a Borders Rewards card and as such I get frequent e-mailings with coupon offers. About the only time I use them on a CD there is if it is in the 40% off range. And even then, I still check the price at the Best Buy in the same mall complex first.

Oooooh, if it's Empire, I will have to add that to my list of long put off purchases. I'm not the biggest of Queensryche fans, but Silent Lucidity is among my favorite songs.

Old Mozza does like the wine too.

Wam your picture of Alive makes it look like some weird version of Secret Samadhi with a hidden face on the cover!

I only mentioned where I purchased my Alive cd because there had been previous discussion in this thread on availability. The price really is not of concern to me. When I want something, I have the good fortune of not having to worry about the extra $$$. Sure, I like to spend wisely. However, after reading all of the negative comments on this site about Alive, and many about Ed's solo tour, etc., I wanted my copy asap so that I could form my own opinion. The timely availability was of importance, not the price.

Having been out shopping, I had already checked Best Buy, Meijer's and Walmart. Not available in any of those stores. I even checked Target as they sometimes have titles I want. Not available there, either. I had previously checked Amazon.com, but was not wanting to wait until it shipped.

I actually put the wrong information in my post. I did not purchase it at Border's where it was also not available. I purchased it at Barnes & Noble. (Early Alzheimer's onset. They both begin with B's...) I was out for dinner and near B&N and having checked at the other stores, I thought I'd check their selection before going home to order from Amazon. They had three copies and I purchased mine.

Edited to say that this post might sound a little "snotty", but it is not intended to be. Just to clarify. I like to shop for good prices as well and am one to take advantage of clearances, etc. Just wanted to hear the recording which seemed to be picking up a lot of negative reviews here.

Emotions regarding the breakup of the band likely sways many opinions. Did mine a bit to begin with as well. Live has long been my favorite performing band. I have never been disappointed and I have been to many of their shows. Music, art, subjective. Some will like, some not. Me? Like I said, the more I listen, the more it grows on me.

I do have to admit, however, that if this cd had been released with the members of Live backing up Ed, I think it would have been a true winner in all respects.

Glad you were able to find the album since you were looking for it. I think the rest of it was more or less just advice to see if you can find a cheaper alternative as to where to buy it since the two major bookstore chains do tend to have much higher prices. However, if it was the first place you were able to find it, then it's good that you feel you got the value needed for the dollars spent regardless of how anyone else feels about the actual album.

I just could not get into Operation Mindcrime. It was huge when I was in college but just never did anything for me. I may have to give it a second listen as I admit my tastes in music have expanded a bit. But I just don't remember anything about OM that stuck with me.

Interesting. It is a lot less of a pop sound than Empire. I really like it as a concept album, great story and great execution.
