Alright - did you throw Thriving Ivory in there as a big release because they are opening for Ed and have an album coming out on the same day as TGF? You probably would try to compare them to TGF as a slap just because of the connection to opening for Ed.

There is some good stuff there and they really don't belong on that list.

I actually love "Angels on the Moon" by Thriving Ivory.

I also forgot to mention that Sully Erna of Godsmack, Grinderman, and The Gorillaz are also releasing their new discs on September 14.

As I said, it is a very crowded release day. September 7th and 21st have a lot of heavy hitters as well.

I think fans of many of those artists would actually be interested in TGF, so that is more a positive than a negative. They aren't going to be competing with the bigger artists but if the marketing is strong then they can pick up some buys with those fans.

If you think the sales of Leonard Cohen are going to have any effect on TGF then you are just batty.

Weezer, Brandon Flowers, Robert Plant, Thriving Ivory, Leonard Cohen, Crossfade, Trapt, Pantera, Eric Clapton, Linkin Park, Queensrych, Sting, and the Toadies just to name a few.

Trapt was pushed back to Oct. 12.

dont think it matters who else releases CDs that day because the majority of the opening week sales are going to come from the "diehard" fans and not the people who randomly see the album on a store shelf or advertized on amazon.com....chart rankings should not be a part of ed or TGF discussion because neither are going to be close to impressive...thats not a knock on the music, its just being realistic

It will be hard for the album to get shelf space, and like Ed's CD in the US, it should have a short run on Billboard.

Wow, I just listened to LP's new single: The Catalyst.

Seriously, WTF IS THAT SHIT. The gracious dudes blow that shit away.

TGF rocks, most other bands these days spend more time producing their little shit music. Pathetic.

Both albums have a shot at making it on there post-release if one of the singles catches fire.

Or do you not remember when Throwing Copper came out?

It's... interesting. It's better than when they were rapping though!

Queensryce is just rereleasing operation mindcrime... that doesn't count as competition.

Empire actually, and distributed by... guess who... EMI!

EMI's distribution will likely be better than what Ed had, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

EMI is a giant, getting an agreement with them to distribute the physical product was a necessary move. If more people discover it and want to buy it, then discover they can't get it.......then....... fill in the blanks.

I have no problem with TGF being together. Just because I am not a fan of most of their music, doesn't mean that the band shouldn't exist. Certain people love old school rock, and TGF works for them. Totally cool.

Back on topic, my favorite 3 tracks from Alive after having the CD for a month are: Drive, Fire on the Mountain, and Just in Time.

Ed's cd had a short run in the US because it sucks.
