Do you think Selling the Drama is about worshiping Jesus?

no, that's what I meant..., changing just that one lyric doesn't change the intent of the whole song.

Whoever gave the scenario about a Christian artist becoming an atheist and then changing a few words around to reflect their new beliefs.........that sealed it for me.

Though I'm a Christian and I don't dislike Ed as much as a lot of people do, I definitely now agree that if he doesn't feel the old songs represent how he feels anymore then he should just stop singing them and focus on the songs that do lyrically represent how he feels now, or atleast don't contradict how he feels now......like Lightning Crashes for instance.

pretty much I agree. that scenario (Christian artist becoming atheist...) seems pretty ridiculous to me, as well.
again, they're Ed's lyrics to change, but it seems like a move made without integrity to sing the songs that are popular (though not the songs you necessarily feel anymore) and justify it by changing a lyric.

I wonder if Ed will eventually go around knocking door to door asking people if they want to hear the word of god (for $10), buy his album (for $20) or have a private concert in their backyard ($you sell your house to him).

You're not thinking big enough. He'll offer to have coffee with you. Of course, he'll bring his own to sell you for $5 a cup. To hell with Starbucks, this Ed Kowalczyk coffee we're talking!

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the lyric and the song.

omg.gif seriously?

changing

to Christ: a cross and to me: a chair I will sit and earn the ransom from up here

TO

"To Christ, a cross, to me, a chair, I will sit and I've got to worship from down here!"

doesnt change the meaning of the song?!! this sort of statement only begs one simple question, what the hell do you think the song is about? (whoops.. should i have not used the word "hell"? hehe.gif dont want to give away any clues!)

Ironically I sometimes take the title "Selling the Drama" literally. Which I guess would mean that it is a song about selling an ideology, or just being dramatic to bring people together. In which case, the lyrical change is fairly appropriate.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Aug 3 2010, 12:05 pm) *

I love you in my dreams
I'd never turn the other cheek during the day
I love you all
The subculture of my dreams is waiting for me to fall asleep
I know you're scared
Don't be
I know you're scared

Herooooooooooooo of love

This attic of my church
This feelings I can't hide
These feelings of love
Never feel alone, yeah child
The prayer service it keeps me here
I fell in love with a brown eyed girl
I saw your tongue, it licked my love
They called you, oh lord!

Herooooooooooooo of love
Dreeeamer of peace
Heroooooooo of love, yeah

They called you Lord!
They called you Lord!
They called you Lord!
They called you Lord!

WATER man, you forgot the water reference.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Aug 3 2010, 12:05 pm) *

Best I could do .. now I'm gonna go wash my hands

That doesn't count.

Unless you took the water from toilet, washed your feet and blessed his name. hehe.gif

It would probably be a bad idea for Ed to put his old songs on the shelf just because there are a couple lyrics that don't work with his new audience. The new lyrics may degrade the meaning of the old songs, and therefore abandon the old fans, but the fact is that his career has changed. I wouldn't necessary say that Ed is "whoring" the old song meanings, especially if his original intent is just to get people to understand his own inspirations. But I would say that his intentions are suspect, and so the songs could be considered whored out if Ed is faking his religiousness. But even in that case, I don't blame Ed for trying to make a buck at this point.

I would guess that Waitress or Shite Towne do not fit his new religious vibe with all the cursing.

To me the new lyrics are just a parody of the songs.

QUOTE(thefunkyredcaboose @ Aug 3 2010, 2:40 am) *

Recently Ed has been changing the lyrics to more and more old Live songs:

1. "To Christ, a cross, to me, a chair, I will sit and I've got to worship from down here.

The ironic thing for me as a Christian is that the original verse is actually more scripturally correct then Ed's addendum.

You see....we need to sit here on earth (in Ed's words) and EARN the ransom Christ gave by our actions.

By contrast at Matthew Ch 4 : 10 Jesus himself says that it isGod you must worship - aHe never requested people worship Him (that is Jesus) therefore making Ed's new statement contrary to the scriptural command

No one is asking Ed to put all of his old songs on the shelf, just the ones that clearly don't resonate with him any longer to the point where he has to change his lyrics.

am just too lazy to search and cant remember, but when did we first see word change to Selling the Drama?

is it about the audience or about Ed's new outlook? shrug.gif
