So I saw 'Grace' on Rage last tonight. I was sitting watching it with my friend, we were pretty stoned and just talking shit and it came on ... he knows I'm a massive Live fan, and while he doesn't dislike them he's not a massive fan, he always respected them. Anyways he said he remembered watching Ed guest program rage a few years ago and they played lots of Live clips and said it was a really memorable night because it was the last night he saw one of his friends before they killed themselves, so the Live clips they showed he said he always had a special place for them and really liked those songs.
Then he saw Grace and I believe his exact words were "what the fuck happend to him?"

I think the video for Grace actually hurts it. It's just Ed walking around a place pulling funny faces, all very centric on him - then cut to some generic bands shots. It's just ALL very much about HIM and that sets a bit of a negative tone. The video has no story, no premise - it's just "hey watch this professionally made concert performance with a few pick ups of Ed walking places."

He's always been a weirdo in the videos but... there's a whole level of artistry and integrity lost with this video. It's a big step down, and whether it's conscious or unconscious, you DO notice it.

EDIT - And it's a shame because, given the direction he's going - however ill-advised and shitty some may think it - I think Grace is quite a good lead single for him, all things considered. If they gave it a proper video that didn't just say HEY LOOK AT ED LOOK AT ED LOOK AT ED then it could have been something and, I think, likely, your friend might not have picked up on the big downfall in artistic music and the lack of the original band as much. Or at all.

Wasnt so much the video as the song, his other comment was "that was just the most generic bland song I have heard in a long time" ... again this is someone who is pretty detatched from Live, but still felt quite positively towards them.

Yeah. Still, I think if the video were better, it might mask the problems of the music a bit more.

Live's never really made amazing videos ... actually come to think of it most of my favorite bands except Rammstein seem to make pretty poor videos.

You'd expect his video to be all about him being it's his solo thing I guess. Performance videos I generally find boring though, i'd prefer a story told or something to actually unfold. You may as well make it a piece of art rather than just something you feel you should have to do, never been a big fan of music videos in general I guess.

Yep, that's what did it for me. I listened to it when it was posted here...didn't really think much of it but thought it was probably the kind of song you had to listen to a few times to get anything out of it...then I saw the video and found that just really bad. That was pretty much the end of the EK for me sad.gif

Close your eyes and think of England ;-) lol.gif

As somebody already said, Live weren't known for their videos. I tended not to watch Live's videos in the past, so I won't be watching this one.

It's got a bit of momentum in it's first week released to the airwaves.

7th most added song in the country, ahead of Brandon from The Killers song

Was doing some channel flicking tonight on way home in the car,and heard it on TripleM,was 5th on there nightly countdown thing on Ugly Phil's show. I don't listen to the radio enough these days to know if it's in heavy rotation yet or not. Depends if Nova jumps on board

I think it might do pretty well. Has potential to be another 'Heaven' like single here, which sat around #20 on the singles chart for ages. There isn't a great deal of Nickelback/Daughtry type radio rock atm,so this song should fill that void on radio...though Ed is a little too 'in your face' for some with his songs for it to become an absolute hit

Was heading off fishing early this morning before sunrise, and doing the usual channel flick in search of a good song to keep me awake. DJ on TripleM said Ed's name which caught my attention, then did a little interview with him(which was strange to play at 6am on a sunday morning).

He obviously knew what had happened with the band, and threw in a couple of subtle questions.

"Have the other guys heard the song yet and what do they think?" Ed gave some political answer that didn't mention the other guys. Then he asked what's the future of the band? Then Ed gave went off on some spaced out rant about his new direction and never answered the question directly. The DJ go's "Sounds like the other band members should be looking for another job". They both laughed...

They played Grace, and after the song the DJ go's "all you Live fans,I would be getting the back catalogue,as it doesn't sound as if there's a future for the band"

Heard it on Nova friday. The presenter chick go's "I've heard the album, and it's pretty cool"...'cash for comments' sprung to mind immediatly

I've heard Grace a couple of times on Nova here in Perth. Haven't heard any DJ's comments though. I will keep an eye an the ARIA charts to see how it fares...

Hmmm, interesting developments with Grace last few days. Maybe the album is not done yet if Grace takes off, which it still may. It's borderline breaking itself right in to heavy rotation.

The reason I say this is it was played on Fox today here in Melbourne. Fox only plays the popular ..'pop',pretty much top 40 stuff, and the odd yesteryear hit. Would rarely hear a Live song on there, maybe Lightning crashes.Once a new song starts getting played there,it then gets pillaged for 2 months, then the likes of Mixfm and that pick it up and play it every hour...
Haven't heard it on the pop nightly countdowns yet though, like hot30 etc

Also heard a guy ring up and request it yesterday whilst i was at work, but I didn't catch what station it was on.
Few friends have been asking me about it also,so it must be getting decent play.

To me it says top 20 single...but I've said that about 8 times with Live songs.I also said Heaven would be a flop, and it made it to 19. I also thought Like I do was going to springboard Live back to the most popular rock band in the world 7 years ago....so I'm not the best gauge

I heard Grace last night on the "Kyle and Jackie-O Hour of Power". It's the first time I've heard it on a non-Nova station. The Perth Nova station is still playing it semi-regularly..

Does anybody know if there's a site that lists how many times tracks get played on the radio. I know there are a few for the US, but I haven't come across anything for Australia.
