Like someone said earlier, website rankings are meaningless. I'm willing to bet that the majority of the top 100 are porn sites, so outside of people getting to view them while jacking off, they offer no real relevance.

Fansoflive is a very good fan site that was created by NectarDan. It just has a very limited scope when it comes to overall fan reach. I'm actually thankful for that because most of us act like total assholes here. FansofLive does not do Ed Kowalczyk or The Gracious Few any favors.

I can't say I'm really surprised by those rankings. I contribute to Google's rank every time I open Firefox. I'd imagine quite a few people who haven't changed the default web page do the same.

There was probably a time when porn sites ranked higher generally, but between Google and Facebook, there are a lot of people online who probably were not even just 5 years ago. I think I have the Farmville invites to prove it (groan).

But I was the one who said earlier that web stats were pretty meaningless in terms of importance. And it all goes back to the importance or value of a site being relative to how meaningful it is to its members.

Well sure, the casual fan would probably wonder what the hell is going on. Some might stick around long enough to make a determination for themselves. Most would probably remain lurkers or just give up completely. The smartest of them would probably stick to the threads relating to a particular show in the past in the hopes of getting access to recordings and avoid the semi-obvious flame throwing threads.

I've been online for quite some time now, in fact, longer than the web as we know it has existed. Back then, dial-up Bulletin Board Systems served the purpose that most web forums do today. And I can tell you with a great deal of certainty that most of the discussions that happened on those boards would look like utter lunacy to anyone who just took a passing glance.

And don't even get me started about online technical forums...... If you're going to rely on them, better have an asbestos suit ready, you may need it.

I tend to agree with Voodoo Lady on this one. It takes me back to when Live and Collective Soul were touring together and as a fan of both bands I was a member of both boards. Nick would constantly post on the Collective Soul board even though he has said many times that he is not a fan of theirs and there is no doubt in my mind that his doing so turned a lot of people off towards Live. I believe I tried once to explain to him that he was doing more harm than good but it fell on deaf ears as usual. Then he would bitch about how the Collective Soul fans were talking shit about Live but that would only ever happen if he instigated it. Seems like the same exact thing is happening now. It's weird that he has decided to hate on the other half of what used to be Live though. Never could have predicted that one.

Nah, mate, you are wrong this time, sorry. Websuite rankings are VERY meaningful. Let me explain it from my own SEO point of view. The website of the company I no w work for used to suck and the online orders from our shop used to run like 2-3 per week. When I started the promotion and the site was digested by google and other search engines it all started going very well and now... holy fuck... I do not know whether this will say anything to anyone here, but wioth several requests we are No1 at google... Companies waste years of work and thousands of bucks to get into top 5. We are top 1. And the orders keep coming in ever increasing numbers. So for the business it is VERY important indeed.
