QUOTE(Aitkens @ Jul 28 2010, 8:39 pm) *

Aitkens. If you're going to use my name, I ask that you at least spell it correctly.

If I were speaking it you'd not know the difference nervous.gif

and Wam, I don't know if that's true here, I don't think anyone, AitkEns included wanted to hate the album. I'd rather have more good music to listen to than bad. I certainly wanted to like the album .. I knew it wouldn't be "old Live" but I hoped he was going to do something different enough for me to appreciate it in a different way .. like he did with Dirt Water, Lotus Flower. But that didn't happen. Was the best I could hope for anyways.

i wanted to like the album so i did, at certain times that coincide with the peaks and valleys of my mood spectrum. there are people here who were never going to like the album because they are emotionally retarded by imaginery allegiences. thats it, wam doesnt do forum politics, he has said too much. im going to bed and will wait till more inebriated to post again.

there is an expression where i come from: Dont bullshit a bullshitter

I tried to give Alive a chance. I wanted to hit play and hear Ed singing like I know he can, and singing meaningful lyrics again. We obviously didn't get that, and I've since given up hope.

I want him to completely fail now, because I think hitting rock bottom will give him the kick that he needs. Somewhere deep down, the Ed we were all fans of is in there. He just needs woken back up.

To each his own. The album isn't the greatest ever but it isn't the worst. SFBM and V are way worse than A-Live. Apparently he can write another Live album (he's been writing them for years) and if this was Live I'd say it's not a return to greatness but it's better than the last two (which isn't saying a whole lot).

It's not TC, SS, or TDTH but I enjoy the album. It is what it is.

Yeah, it's nowhere near the first four LIVE albums but its still pretty good in my opinion. I wish he could (or maybe would) write songs like Dam at Otter Creek, White,Discussion, Stage, Heropsychodreamer, etc.... but atleast I can get the hard rock fix from TGF and other bands I like and still get good songs from Ed too.

I agree it's better than SFBM, but I'd prefer to listen to V. Though, I would miss Zion.

Agreed

I really don't like how this review played on the breakup more than it did on the substance of the album. It is a bland album but they didn't go into WHY it was so terrible. This guy had his preconceptions before he heard it I can tell. If I had any of my friends listen to this they would say it is catchy but boring musically and a little offensive lyrically. I'm quite surprised more reviews don't mimic these sentiments.

I think he means offensive in the sense that it is lyrically a complete bore compared to the previous offerings by Ed which were more thought provoking and not so 1 dimensional. Not offensive in the "fuck you if you dont believe in Jesus, cunt" kind of way.

I like the songs but I don't care for a lot of the lyrics on the album. They're preachy, corny, and sometimes cliche.

On just lyrics the album is bad but I like the sound of many of the songs. Some people place a lot on lyrics. I typically hear the sound of the songs more than I focus on the words.

I'd give Ed props if he made music with those lyrics.

Meh.....I would find that to be as lyrically disappointing. My favorite Ed lyrics are those where there is plenty of room for interpretation, even when the actual point of the lyrics is known.

Interestingly enough, I think Grace fits that category. That's one of the reasons I had hopes for the album when I first heard the single on Ed's site.
