"I’ll try and walk you through what I can remember, recording by recording"

At this point in the first paragraph, I nodded my head smiled and mentally prepared myself to receive some awesomeness. Again thank you Ed and others, why the heck didn't we think of this before!

Alright. I will be sleeping beside a beautiful redhead goddess tonight, and I can't say what else...

But tomorrow I will convert this Rockfest collection to something downloadable. I don't even believe there's much Live material in these 5 discs, but you will get whatever's on there. smile.gif

As I hadnt have any connection to the internet yesterday, I only read this now.

Wow

Just WOW. Best thing I read on Live EVER. And it connects all the pieces and fragments we heard over the years so f*cking well! Like others, I now have a feeling I better understand what happened and have a little more peace with it.

My only side-note, however is Chad writing (and Ed letting him do this) Purifier at the very end of the LIVE story... just doesn't connect to everything that built up in the 00ies at all.

Finally gotten some sleep and managed to actually compose my thoughts and calm down a bit. That was one hell of an emotional roller-coaster to read.

Reading about how things started to go downhill rapidly with the label after TDTH, especially with how V was handled, Pillars of Davidson came unbidden to my mind and would not leave. While it was already one of my favorite LIVE songs, it has a whole new meaning to me which makes it that much more special in my book. It's funny how a song written years before can suddenly have new life because of new circumstances.

I find myself among those who have revised their opinion of Ed a bit in all this. I still think there was a lot of shit he did wrong. I still think he could have gone about it much better. And it would help to have the perspective of Patrick and CG to help flesh it all out. But the sense I have is that, given Ed's apparent predisposition to the type of musical direction the label wanted, Ed must have grown increasingly frustrated as CT began to withdraw from the process. It would have been a lot healthier for both of them if they admitted to each other that they were going off in different directions. It's obvious now that CT wasn't emotionally stable enough to have the clarity to do so. I am thankful that his depression at the time didn't lead to dire consequences for himself, as he admitted it almost did.

This does not absolve Ed completely in my book for a lot of what came later. He still comes off as disingenuous in so many of the interviews. Some of his statements would still be laughable if they weren't so sad. But as someone noted, he would find himself in an environment very nurturing for the direction he would take. It's sad that he couldn't, or wouldn't, see what he was doing to at least one of his oldest friends.

Looks like there's a lot of blame being thrown around (and considering Chad's words, a lot of it is justified), but wasn't it the band who blocked Kevin Smith on numerous occasions from getting "Hold Me Up" out there? I'm not certain if it was the band as a whole who made that fuck up, or if it was one member in particular (Ed?) but damn... Chad's words only further drive home the point that there were a lot of moronic decisions made to hold the band back, internal and external.

It's a shame.

Found it! Okay, so....lossless recordings of the 5CD-R set. How do I do this?

Lookin forward to this swami thumbsup.gif

Would REALLY appreciate it if you could put it out there on mediafire or something in FLAC (sorry +Ed+ but lossless is always besy - I'd be happy to convert to mp3 and re-upload it for you wink.gif )

PS> If you need a good easy to use CD-FLAC ripper I'd suggest dBpoweramp which you can get a fully-functioning trial version of here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

The project went from being titled “Ecstatic Fanatic” with a quasi-orgy painting by Peter Howson to “V”.

Imagine how different things could have been...

I'll cut Ed some slack, but not much. He's still a pompous asshole, who not only took advantage of the fans, but his friends/band mates.

I will soften my anger for Ed after hearing the story. I think he was led down the wrong path by the almighty dollar....selling out to the record company instead of growing some balls. I also think he shunned trusting the other 3, but that being said. Ed, enjoy your solo career. I know the magic of your voice is buried in the vaults....When we hear what we haven't, we'll be asking why. The last 10 years of schlock.....record company sabotage, bad advice, bad decisions. Ok that is history.

I do think it will be him that has to make up to the other 3. If the civil case goes away, then perhaps the healing can begin anew.

I'm still pissed at ed - this doesn't change how I feel about him. But it sure has taken a lot of the hurt away. Huge thanks to those that wrote to Chad and to CT for his amazing reply.

yeah, i'm with you. i'm not sure the intensity of my negative feelings towards him are what they were before Chad's blog. indeed, while reading the blog i found myself swinging back and forth with my feelings towards Ed, at one point i felt some sympathy and awe over what he created that we havent heard.. and then would get really pissed at his treatment of Chad... so like OTD, my anger has "softened" but its still there.. forgive but not forget?
