...sure the peak seems to have been passed. However I rather buy a new Live album than most of the crap out there. I still love their music even if the hits have been fewer on the last albums.

I still hope for a reunion some time (even if it seems impossible now) as Live in my opinion still makes the best music and I rather buy a new Live album than anything else (in music of course).

To have the unreleased songs as Change etc would definately make me satisfied and fill some gap.

Meanwhile I will enjoy the new Gracious band with an appreciated more uptempo music but with a voice that I still need to get used to - and on the other hand a solocarrier Ed with the great voice but unfortunately still keeping to the midtempo music.

That was my general response on the breakup as well. I'm just glad I went along on the ride while it lasted. In my opinion, they released 5 great albums and 2 utter failures (V and SFBM). Overcome was the only great song that came out of those failures. I'm actually glad they went their own way. And I hope Ed continues to write his own music. I like his new album and he hope he writes more songs like Eat Your Love.

Btw, Swami, are you aware Ed released a solo album? I was looking for your review one day, you seem to be one of the rational ones around here, and I noticed you only post in Live Central. That would be pretty funny if you had no idea. lol.gif

I am aware of Ed's album Alive. However, I'm in between jobs and can't buy it. I've heard Grace about 16,780 times and I love the song. Very latter-day Ed. August 3rd I intend to be employed again and thus making money. I no longer collect, but damned if I won't buy the main releases! I'll be picking up Alive as soon as it's within a reasonable budget for me. Same as The Gracious Few's forthcoming album. Having said that, I might just go ahead and torrent Ed's record for the time being. Just to hear it, y'know?

I think you'll enjoy the record. If you can get past the Christian lyrics, which aren't ambiguous, and the pop sound, I think you'll find it's a nice piece of work. IMO, Ed's vocals are among the best of his career on this record.

I expected the split, wished it came way earlier. At least they are off doing what they want now with no recourse...their own way

A whole year already? Time flies...

This band died years ago after TDTH. They've been nothing more than stage support for Ed since then.

It surprises me that everyone seems to remember a shocking 'break up moment'. Whearas for me it was quite a long time of discovering what was going on, of going further downhill and finally of accepting.

First there were the rumours that Nick brought 'oh man, they dont interact on stage anymore, something is going on', after that Ed doing more and more solo (even with a new acoustic song), then they announced they planned a pauze or hiatus, then the rumours started it may be 2 years... or longer! And after that the dirty stuff came out of a contract and what happened earlier that year with Pinkpop. From that point, I accepted it wouldn't be like it used to be ever. And one year later... we're still here. With Chad Taylor telling us the most insightfull Live story in a long time!

Zman,

What makes you think it will be two years? I'm thinking 5 years or more for time to do its thing and heal some wounds.

That being said, I hope you're right!

I think Ed's religious awakening and crusade will take much longer than 5 years. This may end up like a CCR thing where the wounds never heal.

The Eagles had once said they'd reunite when hell freezes over, so anything's possible.

However, unlike the Eagles and CCR, the problem here isn't just a matter of bad feelings. That may blow over in time. The problem also lies with the fact that the two parties have gone in separate direction musically.

While I wouldn't mind seeing a hybrid album where some of the songs are rock driven, others more of the acoustic, quasi-folk style, giving a little something to everyone, I could easily see the breakdown of the album getting contentious.

My hopes that there will be a new album in two, five, or even ten years are virtually non-existent. The best I think we could hope for is that they just decide to do a re-unification, bury the past and make some money tour. I'm not going to lie. I would go. But at the end of the day, I get the feeling the experience would leave me rather unsatisfied.

edward aint comin back. Do people understand the true significance of ed's decision to go solo? His new found spiritual awakening? He is a saved soul, he has seen the light of the lord and he will never walk with the wolves again. Have you read some of his blogs? He is a bible-thumping gospel-crooning soldier of christ. There is no return from that. It was in his DNA to end up this drunk on some kind of religion, seeing as how he was searching for it from the git-go. Im not trying to be mean, i still like his stuff and respect him as an artist, but if you know many christians who are hardcore, they tend to surround themselves with other saved souls, a kind of spiritual snobbery. if there is to be a reunion it will be for money and nostalgia, but edward the great is gone.

I also doubt we will ever see a LIVE album again and that is fine by me because I dont think it would ever regain that magic they once had. However, I could see the patching things up and touring again. That I hope to see one day as I would travel almost anywhere to see them again in the future. I would think it is highly likely that we will see them touring again one day and it will be a successfull tour as well.
