I take no cash for supporting tgf.

Do you have admin status as now the post topic has been renamed? Nick did you do this?

Here's where Ex said it could be harmful.....but you will spin it another way.

Yes, thats where he said it could be harmful. But he does not claim that it is generally unhealthy even if Pokey adhered to the diet successfully. And of course I see you don't follow the rest of where I say that if he realizes that it is unhealthy, all the reasons it might not be the best advice to offer Pokey.

This is not evidence-based, Bre. What exactly is unhealthy about following Atkins for 2 weeks, and where are the RCT trials published in respected, peer-reviewed journals to prove it?

Again, spin spin spin to another part of the debate when I answer as a matter of fact.

Why do I bother, it's obvious you like to debate. Perhaps you're one of our country's illustrious MF'ing politicians.

If you read your post, you did not explicitly say that Atkins was unhealthy. And if you know it is unhealthy, it will be your duty to not provide harmful advice, as per the Hippocratic oath

You Bre, like to exploit when someone makes an inference to a fact w/o saying the words. I know this is where you get your jollies.

And....one more thing. I may be a supporter of TGF, I take no gain from it.

how did this turn into tgf and bickering?

Im 26 and started the gym about a year and a half ago, and still havent moved from being 64kg. I may fluctuate half a kilo each way but it never goes further than that! I work out my entire body though legs are troublesome for me as i find squats difficult. I Do leg press, leg extensions, curls and calf raises instead of squats. Might throw lunges in next week. I am benching roughly 70kg to give you an idea of my strength, which is not bad considering my weight. Im average height and am pretty happy with how well my body has responded to weight lifting in terms of looking better. I just wish i could get heavier.

The problem i have is being lactose and gluten intollerant pretty much limits what i can eat. So i eat very healthy and only drink water (ok and shitloads of wine), and i smoke a pack a day, and dont do ANY cardio. so i dont know, im not really complaining because i certainly dont look like a malnourished russian (sorry ed tongue.gif) im nicely ripped and dont put fat on but would like a little more strength which can only come from mass. do they have lactose AND gluten free protein shakes that are worth the money they charge?

Well first of all, I was mainly referring to the fact that you were the one who said the diet was generally unhealthy.

I guess I don't have much one the short term effects of Atkins for two weeks. Maybe a couple wiki blurbs that I posted below which are referring to medical articles, though it doesn't really specifically target the short term, though it says overall there are many undesirable effects.

But if you know that tremendous weight gain and loss that comes in just a few weeks, aren't there any journals that discuss the adverse effects of quickly losing or gaining weight like this one?

http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/279/11/824

But many in the scientific community also raise serious concerns:

  • Dr. Robert Eckel of the American Heart Association says that high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets put people at risk of heart disease.[50] A long term study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2006 found that, while low-carb diets were generally healthier than high-carbohydrate diets, women reduced heart disease risk by eating more protein and fat from vegetable sources, rather than from animal sources.[51]
  • A 2001 scientific review conducted by Freedman et al. and published in the peer reviewed scientific journal Obesity Research concluded that low-carb dieters' initial advantage in weight loss was a result of increased water loss, and that after the initial period, low-carbohydrate diets produce similar fat loss to other diets with similar caloric intake.[52]
  • The May 2004 Annals of Internal Medicine study showed that "minor adverse effects" of diarrhea, general weakness, rashes and muscle cramps "were more frequent in the low-carbohydrate diet group".

No jollies from these arguments. it is a pain in the ass, especially with you.

What have you not been getting....it doesn't matter if he said it or not, inferred it or not.

Secondly, it didn't seem like an inference to me, one cause its unbelievable that he would give unhealthy advice. Two, because as a doctor, you better not infer, you better say it.

Third, as he is the one who later claimed that it was generally unhealthy, I simply argued thats why he shouldn't have given the advice to Pokey, or at least come up with another healthy diet.

You really don't need to be here, you have some mailing lists to make. Your secret is safe with me.

So I guess you're saying that Atkins is not harmful for two weeks.

Do you still believe Atkins is Pokeys best option?

Just because a journal hasn't been made about it, doesn't mean it isn't harmful.

Care to elaborate on why you like me
