Maybe Ed had already decided to go solo. And maybe, just maybe, his buddies Pat, Chad, and Chad wanted to talk him into staying with Live instead. One thing leads to another, and Ed says he'll stay, but only under these conditions... An 'ultimatum' could reasonably be reached from this angle.
If you placed a full-stop after these words, your post would be very interesting.

I am six other posters on this board and 12 of the guests at any one time. My primary other names are OuttoDry and SJN1279. I frequently have arguments with myself for the board's amusement, which is primarily also me.

If you don't believe that, a more apt name would have been "sporadic poster" as I can post quite frequently for a few months and then vanish just as quickly for several more, really depends on the ol' work schedule. I'm more active in the TGF forums then I am anywhere else on this board as Ed has left the genre of music I prefer. The vast majority of my rep points (I think, not sure) have come from ripping of radio interviews and acoustic clips from TGF. If you don't like my rep points you can knock them down for every post I have, I don't mind, I'm finding myself here less and less frequently with gracious fans up (plus it took me months before I ever even realized I had reputation points).

I will not waste me time to explain what I already did twice. Care to switch the brain on and understand?

You'll only waste 3 posts talking about the post you won't say. Meanwhile, you're not ready to stand up to your words, which is what you accused me of. Why would you even quote me regarding a post you made to someone else in a different thread, that I wasn't in, and expect it to make sense.

One thing leads to another, and Ed says he'll stay, but only under these conditions... An 'ultimatum' could reasonably be reached from this angle. But oh wait, that doesnt fit very well with the 'everything TGF says is golden, and da EK is a douche because he took over the band and screwed his friends (I only believe this because everything TGF says is golden)' crowd.

You guys all seem to assume that Ed just walked up to his friends one day, handed them a contract that said he was taking over the band or would leave, and then forced them to sign it.

So to make a long story short, we have no idea how this all transpired. And we never will.

Now let's all continue to beat the dead horse...

Well they're obviously sure enough about their side of things to take it to court which I think is a pretty serious indicator.

You say all the "maybe, just maybe", it could be "maybe, just maybe" all the other way too. The thing that makes me think that TGF's side is correct isn't just what they say, but what Ed says and does too. I'm not personally following them blindly, what they say just seems to fit hand in glove with the sort of character you could see Ed becoming. There's lots of reports here and there for awhile about his character turning to mush.
You could say "maybe, just maybe" that TGF have capitalised on Ed's bad standings with people and concocted this plan to make him look like the bad guy, but that's really stretching conspiracy theories a bit far.

In the end, to me, the TGF guys come off as down to earth blokes with flaws I'm sure, Ed comes across as an egotistical dick with some upsides I'm sure. But to me Ed just seems like the aggressor and the instigator of the trouble in this situation.
It's well documented back in 2001 that Ed wrote most of V on his own and that CT said that it hurt because up until that point they were a team. He loved writing music, but then he said he understood that Ed needed to try something on his own. So there's already a history there from long ago of Ed wanting to write solo. The pieces just all fit much smoother with Ed saying "I write everything or I leave", as opposed to "Hey guys I'm gonna do some solo stuff now" "No wait Ed don't go, stay and you can write everything!".
You have to believe that if Ed gave them the option of "hey I'm gonna do a solo thing for a couple of years then we'll get back to writing together ok?" the other guys would have jumped for it, it's obvious how much writing music meant to them. They'd have probably taken that chance.

I'm sure it's not all TGF as total innocents and Ed as total evil, there's got to be some mud slung from other side, but in the end I believe that the foundation of the story to be as we see in the summons complaint, the minor details may vary a little but yeah..

Your turn to continue beating, this side of the horse is looking quite tender already.

To me his out front ego appeared more and more with each passing year. The MTV doc in 1994/95 of the guys coming up the steps of their school....Ed clearly states in a kind of serious / jovial voice....."little do they know, I am taking over" They other guys laugh at him in jest, but I see through that statement with thinking there is way more to that. I've explained this before in other threads. So if you don't want to look for them, fine.

He's aloof, shy, a lot of disingenous with his interviews, many people have met him and given their personal view of his douchebaggery......he seems out of touch and he kept the friend thing long enough. HE's a classic frontman case and it killed hi band.

that youtube clip is a joke, hope you realize that.

You're saying the guy is troubled, and acts like an ass for it. Maybe so. Based on your description, it doesn't sound like he wanted to be that way from the beginning, like a real douchebag, even as you rationalize his behavior as a common effect for his profession.

Holy hell, you fucking... I do not know what. It has taken you dozens of posts to say the same things over and over again for them not to make anymore sense.

I do not expect my words to make sense, as you may get used to, I simply put my ideas into words and they DOmake sense.

There is no problem with his selfishness to want to take credit for his songs. But to tell C, C & P if he can't he will leave the band? Stop.....he is the biggest douche because of it. He should of just left. They were a better band when they all wrote the music together. In my opinion.

Jeez...you say its ok for him to take credit. As I said, you're only focusing on the effect, though we don't know Ed's approach. Can you explain how Ed could have gotten credit for his songs, but remain in the band? How do you think Ed could have done it without being a douche? You say it would have been better to just leave the band? He offered to leave the band obviously. He gave the band a choice instead of just packing up and leaving.

Also, they had more unity in BOP, was that up to par with their past collaboration, TDTH and prior?

This harks back to so many points people have made too. Rather than go to these guys with his ultimatum why couldn't have done some solo side projects then with some new band. Give Live a break, rather than actually putting this sort of thing on his long time friends. I don't care how people try to spin it, that would have been the right thing to do.

She is saying that Ed should just leave, not go solo and stay.

But in the event of going solo, that would have most likely been the case if the guys said no. Either way, it was about Ed getting credit for his music. With the ultimatum, the guys had first dibs at being a part of the project.

I'm not saying it is good, but I just don't see how going solo then would be more helpful to the rest of the guys. They obviously preferred staying instead of otherwise, which would have likely been Ed going solo.

Perfectly stated Pokey. His meglomania didn't allow him to see clearly on this very issue...or he was given terrible advice by Levin. Seeing how CB is approaching their upcoming hiatus seems to indicate good communication and common ground. Ed came with an ultimatum, as I said, it is part of his MO.

It was a scheme to get more money from the advance. But I doubt that was his MO from 15-20 years prior.

You have a strange definition of unity. There are only two songs on BoP that were not written solely by Ed.

So Ed couldn't have done a solo thing in between +Live+ albums? Noooo, because that's never been done before..... sarcasm.gif
