Far Behind (TGF Cover) Options

I don't like this version at all. Candlebox's version is 1,000 times better (I probably shouldn't say version as it's their song). With Lakini's Juice, I thought the music was good but Kevin vocals were lacking. With Far Behind, I think Kevin Martin's voice is good but the music is lacking.

Yeah, I agree with you that Kevin doesnt sing LJ as good Ed does (yep, even the 2009 Ed on this song was much better than Chris). At least on the recording of 27-05-2010. Especially in the verses Chris sounds boring. Like Ed's band sounds like a bad coverband, here Kevin sounds in the verses like a bad coverband singer as well.

Don't say Kevin is a bad singer, he adds some amazing vocals to some TGF tracks. It's just too bad it happens on such a great song.

Huh? I never said Kevin Martin was a bad singer. I had my doubts when he was announced but I think he sounds really good on the 2 studio songs I've heard from TGF, Honest Man and Trecedim. I'm sure he'll sounds just as good on the rest of the album.

Gotcha. I do, however, think as a whole they did a helluva lot better job covering Lakini's Juice than Far Behind. IMO, they ruined that song.

That might be so, but this world would be a boring place with everyone having the same opinion. Plus it wouldn't be the 1st time I'm in the minority of opinions

But if you want to judge it on crowds, it seems like crowds at Ed shows are giving his music and versions of Live songs great reactions also.

IMO though, each side is going to have a tough time matching the originals of Live and/or Candlebox songs as not everyone in the projects has a real emotional investment in the creation of the originals (CCP on Candlebox songs, Kevin/Sean and Ed's band on Live's songs). But that doesn't mean that their versions will be bad. I'll probably still get into them when I go to their shows which I can't wait for. Friday I see Ed and hopefully September TGF come around.

Ruined is way too harsh. Maybe it wasn't your cup of tea, but ruined? Really? I don't go to live performances to hear songs done exactly as they're done on the album. Live performances should add something to the song, whether it be extended instrumentals, lyrical manipulation, whatever. Bringing a change of pace to what is one of my favorite songs (not just Candlebox songs, all songs) was a perfect touch.

Far Behind is a great song, which I've always loved. I don't need or necessarily want to hear the exact same version of the song as cd, but I think the new arrangement made the song pretty bad. To me it sounds like a karoake version of the song. Now again, that's just my opinion. I'm sure others will love it and that's great. But this was just my opinion and to me they ruined the song.

I don't particularly like the new version of Far Behind either, but I am glad that they put their own spin on it rather than playing it straight up. That, I can appreciate even if I prefer the original. To say they ruined it is a bit crazy, after all it is Kevin's song and if he likes it then they didn't "ruin" it as far as I am concerned.

As far as Lakini's Juice, it just illustrates how much higher Kevin's voice is than Ed's. The song is low for him, so he is never going to sound as good singing it as he does the TGF and Candlebox tracks. He did sound a lot better on it at Fat Daddy's than at Summerfest, for what that's worth.

I'm intrigued to hear them do White, Discussion and Best Friend (by Candlebox) as those are much more interesting song choices to me.

Looking back on yesterday, as some have pointed out, using the word "ruined" might have been a little harsh. When comparing this to the original, I find this version to be much worse in my opinion and that's what I was trying to say.

I'm actually more disappointed in the music of Far Behind than the vocals on TGF's Lakini's Juice.

Sorry for the confusion, I was implying that I hope his voice sounds good on the album, not that LJ would be on it.
