I'm not naive. I wasn't arbitrarily expecting Ed to return to his pre-1999 quality of music. I was, however, based on Grace and Zion, for Alive to be another Songs From Black Mountain type of album. Instead, what we got is this album, by comparison, makes Songs From Black Mountain seem like a long-lost Pantera album.

I wasn't expecting his album to be "written for his kids" or about the "overwhelming presence of God in his life".

Nothing about Ed's musical history, or his recent promotions, would suggest that to be the target for his new "solo" CD. Those may indeed be his target audience, but long time fans like me had no reason to anticipate that as such, therefore any critique we had are entirely relevant.

I hear ya. I was kind of expecting a big jump into more Christian-based lyrics, especially after hearing Grace and Zion, but I wasn't expecting the line "so let me thank you one more time and seal it with a kiss". That's a bit much. This seems like the type of record that a Christian soccer mom would pop into the cd player in the family van with the 5 kids in the back. I'm really not surprised at all with the direction of this album. After all, isn't he headlining the kids stage at Lollapalooza? lol.gif

Man, this thread is making me regret preordering the album. I was actually hoping for something like SFBM. Maybe at least I might win that guitar.

rofl.

No but seriously, I think there might be more illegal downloads of Alive than actual purchases. I wonder if this ever happened before in the music industry?

Also, I listened to Alive for a 4th time this morning. I was cringing and sobbing at the same time.

OK maybe I was laughing a little bit... sobbing, laughing and cringing all at once. Don't think that's possible? Listen to Alive 4 times straight and you will.

I really doubt this board is a fair indication of sales vs. illegal downloads for the album but nice try lol.gif

Well, you could always not open it and try and return it to a store.

haha...yes, if sales report 12 copies, I would agree with you.

Oh well, sorry to hear so many people are disappointed on this board (not surprising though). I'm really looking forward to hearing it next week.

Most of them were disappointed before they stole the album. Pre-conceived notions abound. smile.gif
