Summerfest was a Gracious Fail for their first pay show though. I'm sure things will get better in time, but TGF will never be close to par with Live.

Neither will Eddie K.

Also, you can say that the show was a failure all you like, but here are some reasons why it wasn't:

1. Their pay wasn't based on how they would draw, just that they were headlining a stage. Cha-ching.
2. They put on an amazing show as if there were thousands of people watching.
3. They got to meet me, and that made it all worthwhile I'm sure.

They could have taken your approach and bait the Live and Candlebox fans into coming to the show. But, then again, they have integrity and you don't.

How do you equate having integrity with how these guys market themselves? Ed, so far, has chosen to use his Live connection. Its cool, he is Ed Kowalczyk of Live fame. No one, not even the most bitter of fans, can take that from him.

TGF didnt bill themselves as being of Live and Candlebox. And that somehow gives them integrity?

Personally, I think TGF should use that link to Live and Candlebox. TGF is going to get recognized as people hear their music. But come on, they are only going to get recognized for Kevin's voice. Let's get the guys from Live some greater exposure! It can only help.

And an even bigger point is that we didn't even know the venue till the day before. Oh yeah, I was first in line for the very first TGF show! Eat it bitches! Hahahaha.

I told OTD that you should change you nick to "BeenHereSinceNoon".

I agree that Ed will not have the same following as he did with Live. That is why a Live reunion down the line at some point is a sure bet in my mind.

I might be wrong, but I don't think he was referencing using the names Live and Candlebox because TGF does that (although the Summerfest advertising didn't include it). What is being referenced instead is how many Live songs Ed plays and that some of his shows are marketed as "playing the hits from Live!"

I'm not sure if that is really an issue of integrity though, as much as it is just plain sad.

I really wish you would stop bringing this up.

Has it ever occurred to you that people don't always do things just for money and fame? If the guys are happy not being Live then for the love of god just let it be.

Easily. By not overtly implying that fans are going to experience Live and Candlebox at a TGF show just for the sake of selling tickets, as has been suggested by Nick. It would be easy to do that and choosing not to shows a bit of confidence and integrity.

Either way, my point was that they should all use that LIVE connection as much as they can. The guys struck gold with that band. It will define them going forward, unless and until they happen to strkie gold again.

So Ed gets butts in seats by "playing the hits from Live". Hearing anyone else sing Live tunes just doesnt sound right. Personally I'd rather have the option to hear them with just Ed than to not hear them at all. There are plenty more people out there who share my opinion as well. And of course plenty who do not. But none of us are wrong!

Never said they shouldn't reference Live or Candlebox. Don't agree that they should mislead fans into thinking they will be experiencing Live or Candlebox at a show. Also don't agree that their past is going to define them. In fact, CT mentions in their bio how he realized the past was just that. They are charting new territory here and I give them a lot of props.

Confidence perhaps. If they can stand on their own that is great. All about the music. But that has nothing at all to do with integrity.

Ed sells himself as Ed from Live. He plays Live tunes. People pay to hear Ed play Live tunes. He also has lots of new stuff. Next time Ed is in Atlanta, I will pay to hear him play Live tunes. And his new stuff too of course.

I'll also go to the first TGF show in Atlanta. Here's hoping for a good venue!

That being said, If I didn't know that Chad, Chad and Pat were a part of TGF, I would not go see them.

It isn't strange to you that he has a full album of new material and he performs less than half of it? I'd rather hear an artist play the music that they are most connected to than what markets them best.

If TGF went further than saying "members of Live and Candlebox" and playing one or two songs per show then I would find it to be really disappointing. Hell, I enjoyed their own material much more than the covers they did anyway.

Even if you heard "Honest Man" on the radio and really enjoyed it, with no prior exposure to the band?

I agree that this particular issue isn't about integrity, but given the reported circumstances surrounding the band break-up then I can see how it could be interpreted that way. That's speculative though.

Of the 11 songs Ed released on the CD, Ed has already played 7 in concert.

I guess I just dont see the 'misleading' aspect of if. If I see an artist blling him/herself as "Artist Name" of "Band ABC", I'll assume that I'm seeing that artist, and not the band. Hope to hear some of ABC's tunes though! Maybe thats just me.

To most fans, they will be defined as being 'of Live.' Until the fan has something else with which to associate them. Ed, Chad, Chad, and Pat may define themselves as they wish.

Definitely give them props. TGF sound is different, especially with Kevin's voice. I hope it catches on. I havent heard them on the radio here in Atlanta yet. But then again I sit in a TON of traffic around here, and usually have it tuned to news/talk/traffic (any of yall on here have to deal with the Atlanta traffic??). Seems to pass the time in the car a little faster than music. To each his own, right!
