Nick, on the other hand, has never shown any inclination to admit that anyone but Ed was responsible for Live's success. It's Nick's sycophantic ramblings regarding Ed's greatness, combined with what is known about the "last days" of Live, that bring out the vehemence of the response against him.

I was thinking about this before, whenever an awesome bootleg is posted back in the old days, I never see Nick jumping on board to celebrate how great it was. He just doesn't strike me as a fan of Live. He likes Ed, that's all. The other guys are just session musicians to him, he doesn't have the ability to appreciate and really HEAR music, ironicly the guys were literally reduced to session musicians later in the years and this is what Nick seems to prefer.

Pokey,

I don't think the video prompts anything. It's more of the same from Ed. We've heard all the arguments on why it is bs (a lot of which I agree with) it just seems like the TGF camp has to make sure that their point of view on Ed is heard over and over and over and over. It's monotonous. (I have no idea how to spell that word and probably failed miserably on that attempt.) =)

More holes in it than the Bible..................ugh, another form of board bullying I'm against. (The instance you used wasn't bullying of course.)

You spelt it correctly smile.gif

I don't see this as board bullying. Just people desperately trying to get through to Nick to open his eyes and ears a little more. No one is saying his wrong for liking Ed's stuff more than TGF's or that he's wrong for liking it more. But a million other points he's wrong about, wrong as in literally just wrong. His steadfast refusal on some things leaves a lot of people bewildered. We could just let it go, but seeing inane comment after inane comment makes you want to keep having a go at him.

I agree the arguing is old, but it goes on.

Funky,

I apologize, not trying to start a fight.

Itchy,

You are right, the cult member thing was wrong, I apologize. It was said in jest, as I actually prefer the TGF stuff myself but that doesn't make it right. I don't like hypocrits and I certainly don't like it when I see it in myself.

What I meant by holding back was that I could nitpick little things about both sides but I try to be supportive and not point out every little flat note or weird dance I don't like (see, trying to stay in the middle by taking shots at both) =)

I couldn't agree more that anyone that says or even implies that Ed by himself made LIVE is highly misinformed.

It's amazing to watch the TGF cult members (I mean fans....) race to be the first to crap on anything Ed says or does.

Ed is who he is. He's not gonna talk about TGF. I haven't heard them talk about him either, just the e-mails from friendsoflive that mention both bands.

I'm dissapointed in the way Ed has handled things with LIVE, I wish he would have done a side project (like someone else said in another thread) and gotten some of his powertrip out of his system that way so we could have the old, collaborative best band on the planet LIVE back but it didn't happen that way. I hope sometime in the future, there will be a genuine reconciliation between Ed and Chad, Chad and Pat. I really don't want LIVE to be over.

All that being said, I can still enjoy some of Ed's new stuff. I like what I have heard from TGF a little better but I will support both.

I don't get the bitterness that a lot of you have.

You call it bitter TGF fans. I see Ed fans with a complex that can't handle legitimate criticism and take pot shots at TGF in response. This is a new interview. Perhaps some people were hoping for something new, something enlightening. Yet we got the same old fluff. I see nothing wrong with questioning that. I have more of a problem with the customary responses to Ed criticisms, usually along the likes of TGF sucks.

Its cool, I just get tired of all the fans of TGF being lumped in together. There are some who go a little nuts, but not all of us do. I think that Pokey and I show a lot of restraint. smile.gif Its like if I claimed that all of Ed's fans acted like Nick, which I would never do.

Something that I find interesting is that there are a lot of new folks who are taken aback by the way some of us talk to each other. Its been like this here for years, and most of us who really go at each other have been posting on this board for quite awhile. Hell, Nick and I disagree all the time but we exchange some really civil PMs just to keep it real.

Lots of restraint banana.gif

And that's the thing, I don't hate Nick. He's just incredibly frustrating and not very well informed. He and I seem to disagree about almost everything. Hell I remember an old wrestling thread where we couldnt even agree on something as stupid as that. We're polar opposites in so many ways.
But I'm sure for as much of a doofus as he is that he's still a good guy, a good husband, a good friend etc ... so the arguments get heated but I try not to not let them get personal.

I used to like Ed's interviews, they were even inspiring on itself sometimes, but nowadays... mhehh, this guy can better just sing and not talk about it too much. Everything that's related to Live, TGF, or whatever, is answered with "Oh man, I'm soooo focussed on my exciting new direction, I don't have even time to think about other things, even if I wanted to". Right.

Also, Ed admits here that he made plans about going solo 2 f*cking years ago? Hm. I don't really believe that. But my feeling that all the songs he released now were meant to be for Live, is only getting stronger and stronger. He said early 2009 that Live's new album would be half full of Forver's and half full of Purfier's. In sound, I guess some of the songs on his new album could have ended uop like the Purifier sound. But I just don't believe he planned his solo album during the recording of LATP.

Last but not least: he re-found his sparkle? And all the fans say: woww, he really "has it" again? Uhm, what? Wel maybe it's different, it's all pop now, but refound his sprakle? As far as I noticed he just does what he did for the last 5 years or so, with a couple of new songs now.

Apology accepted. Hey, there have been plenty of times when I've used a turn-of-phrase like that and found in retrospect that it came off a bit harsher than what I intended. I understand completely how that can happen.

I try to stay out of the little nitpicks like the ones you mention. I struggle at times to vocalize what it is I actually like about a certain piece of music in precise musical terms. To me, it either sounds good, sounds bad, sounds bleh (as in nothing of note, neither good nor bad, just there), or falls into the "may grow on me" camp. I leave the musical dissection to those who know better. And in the end, if it falls apart from a musical aesthetics point of view, I may like it anyway.

I am blown away by the fact that Ed keeps saying he hasn't heard anything from TGF and that he doesn't pay any attention to what the other guys are doing because he is too focused on his own thing. I find it hard to believe, but if it is true, then I am even more blown away by the fact that he doesn't have the normal level of human curiosity to check into what his former band of 20 years has done. Either Ed is a liar, or he is weird. I think it would take an "unusual" personality to ignore your former band's activity. My goodness, I can't even stay off this message board for 30 minutes without wondering what the heck is going on with all this drama! How does he not pay any attention at all to the new band and new music that has been made by the 3 former best friends with whom he has created music for over 20 years? Even if only to see what they have done on their own creatively. No one is THAT busy. I just can't wrap my head around it.

Fish,
In my opinion, it's pretty simple really. He decided a while back that his response was going to be that he's too consumed with his solo stuff. He's not going to come out and say that he doesn't like them, they don't like him etc....

I'm with you though, no one is so busy that they wouldn't know anything about their former best friends new project. I guess he thinks he's being politically correct or something.

Fish, I can sum it up in one word:

narcissism
