If a new Live album was along the same lines as another SFBM then I'd be happier hearing more TGF albums over any more Live ones. Live should only get back together if they all write together again.

I think the lines have already been drawn and that's the only way it would be, if it were to happen.

I agree with this. I'll even go further and say Chad, Chad, and Pat should have done some side projects rather devoting their entire life to Live.

Why even worry about whether either one of the projects will be successful? Neither album has been released (well Ed has in a few places). You never know if a single is going to catch on or a band is going to some sort of huge underground following. It's impossible to know right now. It will all play itself out over the next year or so.

I personally hope both sides are successful even if for some reason I don't like their albums. Ed, Chad, Chad, and Pat have given me so much good music and memories and have busted their asses over the past 20 years, I think they all deserve it. Good luck to all of them!

Not sure how anyone can make any judgement based on that crappy audio. Although, it is kind of different without Ed. I guess that's something I'll just have to get used to. Kevin has proven to have very strong pipes though, so I'm looking forward to hearing him tackle some Live songs.

Early concerts are going to be small. Very, very, very, (Very!) few bands pack in thirty thousand fans before their first CD is even released. TGF has one single out, that's still working its way around the airwaves no less. Many people won't go to see a band they don't know, it's going to take months before TGF builds up a following beyond whatever diehard Live and Candlebox fans happen to be in the city they're in.

All early indications, though, seem to point to TGF having solid material and rocking the shit out of it. The question in the fall months will be whether or not their singles catch fire on the airwaves, or a significant underground movement forms behind them. The best thing we can do as fans is to play their music for as many of our friends, coworkers, what have you, as possible. Word of mouth is the way to get a good cult following going. Once September hits this will be a whole hell of a lot easier because we can just pop in a CD instead of playing clips and boots.

As a huge Candlebox fan I must say that I'd prefer for them to stay away from Candlebox material too. C, C, and P's style is vastly different from the Candlebox style, and the new TGF material is too good to ignore.

As far as Kevin's vocals on Live's songs, the songs are lower than what he normally sings, so he is never going to rock them quite as hard as the TGF/Candlebox material.

Any speculation on how either act will do based on what we've seen thus far is just stupid.

TGF has done a great job on Facebook in terms of letting those who are interested watch the creative process as it develops. Leaking the sampler early on gave us a taste of what to expect. Honest Man was streaming online after that and a link to download Tredecim was sent to those who joined the mailing list. One of the radio interviews allowed us to hear Appetite acoustically. And all of this was done before the first show at Fat Daddy's.

My buddy and I were able to make the decision to drive 180 miles each way to York to see the first show ever on the strength of having heard enough material to know we were going to enjoy it.

You're right, it will be even easier in September when the album hits and the CD is in constant rotation in my player. But I've had a pretty easy time getting people jacked up for the album already. And that's thanks in large part to the work TGF has put in making the music accessible.

That and "Honest Man" being a great song that they rock the shit out of in concert. Its going to take awhile for it to catch on on radio since they are indie, but I hope it can happen for them.

I still can't believe people are even talking about another Live album. People, this music rocks, and those who liked the later Live material are going to enjoy Ed's album. To me, everyone is winning. I hope that with Ed's album coming out and more TGF material becoming available that this whole competition mentality will go away. These two acts are barely in the same genre.

I know for some Live fans in may be tough to get into Kevin's lead vocals, but they are clearly suited for what the guys from Live wanted to do. If you haven't heard "The Few" yet then you need to, because it is a great example of this.

Agreed Funky. Live will be out there if it ever comes around. The guys may catch lightning in a bottle with this band. It's everything I've hoped for since 2004.

Therein lies the problem that some people are having with TGF and/or Ed's new music. They're still looking for the Live in it all. It's very clear that TGF is going in a different direction. If it weren't for SFBM, it would also be clear that Ed was as well. Some are waiting around for a band that, for the time being, no longer exists except in our memories.

Change the "barely" to "not" in your last sentence and you're 100% correct. And there's nothing wrong with that. If you don't like that genre, don't listen to it. If you don't like Adult Contemporary to start with, expecting that you're going to like Ed's album is about as silly as expecting Nick to ever like TGF's sound since he's already admitted that the style of music is not his cup of tea. You're never going to convince the other side that you're right. And it wouldn't matter how the current arrangement came about either. If these were both side projects with Live just being on a temporary hiatus, this would hold true. Maybe there would just be a little less vehemence in it all.

QUOTE(thefunkyredcaboose @ Jun 27 2010, 8:56 am) *

To compound things, their stage was on the far end so there was no walking traffic and the festival didn't really advertise them as members of Live and Candlebox. A lot of people asked me about my shirt throughout the day and were a lot more interested when I mentioned Live and Candlebox. I thought they should have gotten a 8pm slot on a stage with someone like Jeff Beck or 311, that would have really gotten them a lot more exposure.

That said, they put on one hell of a show and really seemed to have a great time. They were tight and really going all out all over the stage. It was great to see Kevin go all out, and Chad T. was getting his stomp on in all the right places. He and Sean really interacted a lot during the solos and seemed to be having a great time. As for the setlist, it was similar to the York show with a bit of a different order. They played a cover but we had had a lot of beer throughout the day so I can't quite recall it since it wasn't a song that I was really familiar with. However, it was a damn cool version and we rocked out to it!!

After the show we met all of the guys and talked to Sean and Gracey for a little bit before they were swooped away by management. We were the only people we saw with TGF shirts on already, and they seemed genuinely happy to be getting the support. We told them all how much we dig the new songs.

Here are some photos, there are also some of the other bands we watched (and made fun of) but there are some cool shots of TGF there:

Couldn't agree more with all of this. I got to see one of the setlists that was thrown out, the only song I didn't know was T.R.O.Y., so I assume this was the cover. However, the only reference I can find to that is hip-hop, and what they played certainly wasn't that!!!! Maybe a rock version of it???

FWIW I wasn't that impressed with the cover of Lakini's Juice. It just didn't sound the same. I hope that TGF actually don't play any Live covers, because their original stuff kicks major ass!!! Definitely got a SS sort of vibe. And think about it, you don't hear Them Crooked Vultures etc doing any covers from their respective original bands right?? Let Live go and move forward!

And you weren't the only one there with a TGF t-shirt wink.gif

Ah man! I didn't see you then! Well, the three of us were probably the only ones there wearing a TGF shirt that I saw.

T.R.O.Y. is The Rest of You, which is a TGF song.
