Oh see, but those fans don't count. And neither does anyone who liked SFBM. They're not real fans because they don't like the same stuff that the people here complaining like bomb.gif

I think the point of it all is that the fans who don't like the recent material do feel cheated, just like Nick felt cheated at the Live show he went to.

The fact is both are just opinions based on someone's perspective, and it is ridiculous to make conclusions about reality based off either of them.

Also, thanks for mentioning Matthew Good in that list, going to go listen to Hospital Music now.

QUOTE(Sakhmet2 @ Jun 23 2010, 2:45 pm) *

It was just as likely the smoking as the singing that killed Ed's throat. Along with booze, spicy food, caffeine! - another reason not to sell that freakin coffee - air conditioning.
Nodules are incredibly common whether you scream or not - as looking at the following list of singers who have had surgery for nodes/nodules should show: Steve Tyler, Elton John, Fish, Ian Anderson, Rod Stewart, Natalie Imbruglia, Lucinda Williams, Bonnie Tyler, Omarion, Geri Halilwell, Justin Timberlake, Bert McCracken, Tom Keifer, etc. And what about the singers that developed vocal chord nodes and didn't need to have surgery: Bono, Annie Lennox, Robert Plant, Whitney Houston, Johnny Rzeznik, Art Alexakis, Joss Stone, Mathew Good, Madonna.. Should they all find another profession?

I was responding to the screaming for 3 hours part. Screaming would kill the throat instantly... however if someone uses his/her voice in another way (let's say: SINGING) some might need surgery and others don't. And hopefully for those that need surgery...hopefully for them not on a regular basis.

But that goes for a lot of professions where people use their voice as a tool.... public speakers, ppl in education....

The post was directed at Nick, but since you choose to respond, I'll fire back. Besides, Nick doesn't respond to any posts.

I'm talking about moments where Ed would stop a line in the middle because he flat out forgot the words. Or parts where there were chorus changes, and he'd sing the entirely wrong chorus. There are some damn good singers out there that have done it for over 20 years and still deliver. It wasn't Ed trying to save his voice, it was him not being professional enough to remember his own damn lyrics. At least Michael Stipe, from REM, was man enough to admit that he forgot some lyrics so he does every show with a musical stand in front of him with the lyrics on it.

hmm, looks like it was directed at me...

so if Ed gets a stand with lyrics on them, then he wouldn't have "cheated" the fans. That would be really cool. Or we could just say Ed remembers the lyrics more than 99.9% of the time in career and be OK with it.

Or we could abandon the crazy conspiracy theories like C,C & P were staging a revolt as a means to suggest that somehow their behavior is on par with Ed's and we would avoid most of the drawn out debates. Or we could file their behavior under acceptable band behavior as all of Ed's behavior over the years has been rationalized as acceptable lead singer behavior. Or we could drop the two sides to every story theory as another way to make some argument of Ed's innocence. Or, of course, we could just accept that Ed is a giant douche on a magnitude that will never be reached by C,C & P and just be done with it.

So then you understand why touring for a decades can hurt someones voice. Would you say Ed cheated the fans

I am not mourning, I am happy they split, they should have in 2004 or 2005.

I never said I hated all of Ed's music, some of them are very decent, but nothing like long ago. I guess he cannot achieve that again with his voice change & surgery.

And so then you're saying Ed didn't really cheat the fans based on those 5 points you made before...

Well that CCP thing isn't that bad imo

The two sides to every story is not to make an argument that Ed is definitely innocent. It is just a means to suggest that he is not definitely guilty.

Accepting Ed is a giant douch on a magnitude that will never be reached is something you've concluded without definite proof.....do you realize I'm not trying to say that it definitely isn't true

If his voice was that fucked up, why continue to tour & tour and push new songs/his agenda.....all the while remove his friends from the creative process.

If the root of all this is his voice then I am amazed.

Ed's behavior for 10 years was all predicated on Ed and not what was best for Live as a band then.

Ed's voice struggled in the middle of this decade, but since 2007 has been very good. Why are you starting surgery rumors anyway?

Were they rumours or did it actually happen? I never actually heard of surgery talk before a few weeks ago when someone brought it up..

His voice has definitely gotten better recently. The only problem he has now is still trying to make it do things it isn't supposed to do and it sounds bad then. But he's doing that a lot less now thankfully.

I think what happend was:

Nick thinks C & P undermine Ed on stage by mocking him and ruins Nick's concert experience >

Nick is asked to post said evidence of mocking >

Nick posts the evidence which turns out to be the worst piece of evidence anyone has ever produced about anything ever >

mocking turns to Nick mocking >

multiple examples of Ed's behavior ruining concerts for fans much more than anything C & P ever did + people trying to explain to Nick that what they did has been happening for years and in many, many bands through out history >

In amoungst all this talk about how Ed's ruined concerts much more than C & P has come the topic of Ed's failing voice >

Pretty soon we'll be onto why America should/shouldn't have invaded Iraq.

I think I'm following the thread here right?

Notice how Nick was the only one who actually though C, C and P were mocking Ed yet at least a dozen people have posted various reasons why Ed has cheated us with his drunken and/or drugged up performances.

I'd rather see the guys having a good time, as illustrated in that short Youth video Nick posted, than Ed strolling around with his hands down his pants, shirt off and mis-singing with wrong lyrics.

How 'bout you guys?

To be fair, one other person thought they were mocking him too.

Personally, even if they were mocking him, I think its pretty hilarious. But, I've only been a professional musician for most of my life, so I wouldn't know what is professional and what isn't.
