I like Ed and always will. I also like Chad, Pat and Chad. I refuse to get caught up in all the breakup and legal talk. That's just me.
It boggles my mind how worked up and angry and bitter and hateful some people on this board can be. Not just in their opinions but to each other. I fail to see the purpose.

I have to admit I'm not someone who tries to meet bands or other people I'm a fan of so I don't the effort to hang around after gigs. To be honest, the only negative stuff I could remember about Ed and fans was that there were nights he wouldn't come out of the trailer and sign stuff. Usually nasty winter nights so I kind of didn't blame him. It's the same sort of thing you hear about most successful artists - because they're human and get tired and cranky.

Anyone remember the liner notes (how could you forget) of Death of a Dictionary when Ed went by "Zedd", almost like he hoped to be a Bonesque type figure...

I'm glad he dropped that but we should have known even then his ego would ultimately be his undoing.... (the 2005 demands).

I've met Ed five times. Twice at The Riviera in Chicago when I had after show passes. Once I got passes from a buddy who worked security and once from Jimmy from Friends of Live. Both times he took pics and signed my shirt. I met him once at a solo gig at the House of Blues in Chicago where he took pics and signed some stuff. Once after a show at the York Fair where he signed an 8X10 pic I had taken of the two of us from the House of Blues show. And once last summer at Schuba's in Chicago after his solo show where he took a pic and signed my shirt. Every time he's been friendly, smiling, talkative, shook my hand.

Good post. I've met him several times over the years. In the "old days" (early to late 90's) he was very personable, wanted to talk to people and just hang out. Over the past 10 years he has seemed more distant (at least in my interactions), if he even came out after shows, he signed stuff quickly and disappeared into the buys/van/SUV and left, while the other guys are just hanging out with everyone.

Don't forget "Edward", I think it was around SS that a press release went out stating that he wanted to be addressed as Edward.

I think that was actually around the time TDTH was about to be released in 1999. I remember reading an article about it. That obv didnt stick has everyone continued to call him Ed.

I haven't met Ed but 2 of my friends have and they spoke glowingly about him.

I must say though that reading this stuff does dissapoint me a bit....I mean I didn't really care too much about the whole break up but you can't help but feel that the chads & pat were getting a bit ripped off...10% for each of the 3 and 70% for ed? Gees now I know that Ed wrote nearly everything towards the end and if he had spent months and months developing the songs and the others only came on in at the end then you would think thats fair but I remember hearing they did SFBM in like only 2 wks or something? Am I missing something??!?!! Ed did a lot of PR works, promotions etc etc and justifiably gets a bigger slice of the pie but 70%!!!! Greedy to me. Anyway I'll still buy Alive and probably love it.
