this just in from the court hearing; All the charges in the summons were read out to ed and his legal team and they responded. Ed took the stand: "It's not true LOL"

The judge yelled order, a disco ball dropped down from the ceiling then Live broke out into a funky version of Life Marches On. Who woulda thunk it?

Did Ed meet Bono when Live was successful?
I wonder if Bono would have been so nice if Ed had been a nobody.

This is in no way intended as a diss at Bono or an attempt to justify however Ed may or may not have behaved with his fans). I am just genuinely curious at how famous musicians and other celebrities relate to ordinary fans. And how this differs from the way that others perceive the same celebrities.

And, sort of OT, but I met a couple of photographers (not street paps, but those guys that do the events for WireImage and shit and they really disliked a couple of the big name actors who had a 'teen sex symbol' image. But when I saw those actors (I was working security at a film festival) they were actually really nice to their fans. They stayed outside for a long time signing and taking pictures - which then again caused them to be disliked by some of the audience at the movies inside because the picture started a few minutes late. You just can't make everyone happy. eh.gif

So I noticed this inverse ratio between making the fans happy and making the professionals happy with photo ops are crap.

I don't know where Live's rep with photographers and people working the venues, etc. stands and I'm curious.

Sorry for the digression, but this talk of Ed & the guys are nice/not nice when you meet them reminded me of this.

Live used to go to the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. I went to see them for the SS tour. My friend worked there and asked if I wanted to meet them. I said sure. The employees there remarked that Ed was a real asshole so be prepared. I decided that I would pass. They said nothing negative about the other guys though.

Now, to be fair, there are a lot of these guys who prefer to be left alone if possible. Ed during the SS period seemed to be going through some crazy shit and you can hear it in the album.

I guess what I'm saying is, I'm okay with Ed being an asshole all the way through TDTH because of how he portrayed himself in his art. Ed talking about Jesus and love and whatnot, and then being an asshole at any point, is just crap.

However, if you've met many Christian contemporary artists, well, that's kind of the persona there too. smile.gif

It would be easier for me to name the CCM artists I've met who were genuine - Jennifer Knapp, Switchfoot.

I used to be a part of that business (shameful to admit) so I hope attitudes have changed since then.

I'm pretty sure Ed met Bono in more recent years after he was already famous. I think he saw them live for the first time in his teens though and it was what he said inspired him to become a rock star.

I do agree that if he is singing about Jesus he should probably be a little nicer. Probably why there has been a turn around lately in how he relates to his fans in public or so I've heard. Either that or he's just trying to keep every fan he can! lol.gif But really I don't care if Ed is the biggest asshole on the planet as long as he is making good music I'll buy it. Yes, it would be nice if he could be decent to his fans but it isn't going to stop me from being a fan, it never did before. Shitty music will though.

You would think after all of the searching he's done he would have come up with something about being nice by now!

Yeah. This is what I thought.
It's really rare to hear of a star being rude to another star who is a fan. (I'm sure it happens, though). So maybe Bono wouldn't have been so fabulous if Ed and the boys had not already been successful and famous.

Wiki's been updated on the suit: (needs to be rewritten to say the FVI contract was executed w/o CCP's knowledge.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_(band)

QUOTE
At the end of May 2010, the other three members of LIVE filed suit against Kowalczyk, and their former business manager, in New York State Supreme Court. Among their demands were $225,000 in unpaid publishing money and royalties for songs written by the band that Kowalczyk sold on his personal website. It was also noted in the suit that in 2005, Kowalczyk presented the band members with an ultimatum: Either agree that all songs on future LIVE albums would be credited as written by Ed Kowalczyk or he would leave the band. The members ultimately chose the former, under the agreement that Kowalczyk would receive 70% of all publishing money for future LIVE works, with each of the other three members receiving 10% percent each. The suit alleges that shortly thereafter a deal was struck for the band to complete the next LIVE album. The band would be paid $1m in advance. Consequently, Kowalczyk should have received $700,000, with each of the remaining band members receiving $100,000 each. According to the suit, Kowalczyk and their former business manager withheld most of these funds from the band. [16]

QUOTE(livefan80 @ Jun 16 2010, 6:20 pm) *

I know rarely post and am a bit new to this forum but have been a LIVE fan since the beginning. Anyway, I keep hearing how Ed is such a dick to his fans when they meet him after shows and that the other guys have always been so great which is funny because I have met Ed several times after shows and he has always been super nice and always appeared to be genuinely happy signing autographs and chatting with fans both male and female alike. I can say that I have noticed his attention spans a bit longer with the "better looking" female fans, but what ever..... he's a guy I suppose. I have met Chad Taylor twice and he also was super nice and actually chatted with me for a good 20 to 30 minutes. Sad enough to say the one and only opportunity I had to be in the presence of Gracey and Pat for any length of time they both blew me off with a quick sig and a half heart-ed photo opp. Not to say that they are bad guys or anything, because that is more than what a lot of bands at their level will do after shows. These guys have always been one of the most accessible bands I have followed over the years. But I always found it strange that the consensus on this site seems to be the complete opposite from my experiences. Just thought I'd voice my 2 cents on since it keeps coming up.

I've met Ed five times. Twice at The Riviera in Chicago when I had after show passes. Once I got passes from a buddy who worked security and once from Jimmy from Friends of Live. Both times he took pics and signed my shirt. I met him once at a solo gig at the House of Blues in Chicago where he took pics and signed some stuff. Once after a show at the York Fair where he signed an 8X10 pic I had taken of the two of us from the House of Blues show. And once last summer at Schuba's in Chicago after his solo show where he took a pic and signed my shirt. Every time he's been friendly, smiling, talkative, shook my hand.
I like Ed and always will. I also like Chad, Pat and Chad. I refuse to get caught up in all the breakup and legal talk. That's just me.
It boggles my mind how worked up and angry and bitter and hateful some people on this board can be. Not just in their opinions but to each other. I fail to see the purpose.
peace.
