nah he didn't write it when he was 13. He wrote it after the MJ tour finished. He came back home and was sitting on his brothers bed and was thinking "ok, what now?". And ended up writing LC. According to them anyways.

Maybe *Adam* was 13, but not Ed. I remember reading this a couple of times. Wikipedia quotes it as
Ed Kowalczyk said, "I wrote 'Lightning Crashes' on an acoustic guitar in my brother's bedroom shortly before I had moved out of my parents' house and gotten my first place of my own."

this was apparently in the Spin article of 1995
