This isn't exactly true. I'm sure none of us hated Live in 1995 sarcasm.gif

In 1995, Live were "alternative", massively successful and the critics' darlings still. Nobody hated them that I know of .

I was thinking of Bon Jovi, Nickleback, etc.

Nick did. The music back then was just too aggressive and full of meaning.

Good that you put alternative in inverted commas there, as in 1995 Live were mainstream.

It depends on how someone is defining the term.
If your definition of "mainstream" is Bon Jovi etc, then Live obviously don't fit.

Alternative was mainstream at the time. Mainstream to me isn't a genre of music, it can be any genre so long as that genre is, well, mainstream at the time.

That one line has 12 times more meaning and intrigue than this whole song.

Hmmmmm, interesting you chose to post those particular lyrics. Completely appropriate under the circumstances, as it is exactly where The EK will be "finding" himself very, very soon. Quite sad and oh so unnecessary.

I don't think the new songs are 'meaningless' they have meaning but its a meaning that has come from the establishment, there is nothing deep or personal about spouting Christian Cliches. To say these are 'universal' meanings is to discounts atheists.

and you can have an uplifting message in a creative way without doing this.. i think a song like Waitress .. is simple and elegant and has a powerful social message.. i would love to see more like this, without resorting to needing to fall back these cliches..

Alternative was mainstream at the time. Mainstream to me isn't a genre of music, it can be any genre so long as that genre is, well, mainstream at the time.

I can see where both of you are coming from, but to me country music and hiphop are still distinct genres even when they are the current most popular music. To me, mainstream is pop. To some of my friends, mainstream is "arena rock". (Only to them that encompasses everything from Bruce Springsteen to U2 to Bon Jovi to Nickleback)

One thing I have noticed is that I rarely hear Live of any period on the "rock" music programming the secretary plays at work. "Rock" seems to be pigeonholed as the bands I mentioned above plus Van Halen or AC/DC etc. If I can find them, it's on "Adult Alternative". (They used to go by decades, which was a lot better but when they changed to "genre" programming, they dropped the 60s and the 90s entirely.)
What does this mean? It seems to mean that music programmers and other pigeon-holers no longer have a place to put classic Live. Maybe the breakup will get them more play as Ed slides into Christian Rock and The Gracious Few get put in with "rock" or "alternative".

Not meant to be cryptic at all. It's public knowledge that legal proceedings are in place. Chad T. made that perfectly clear in his letter for all to read regarding the break up of Live. Bannished out to sea, doubt it but isn't it possible that he might find himself alone? Cheating/turning on your longtime friends will catch up with you in the end. Ya know what they say about that Kharma Bus.
