I am struck by how much more energy and promotion and budget seem to be going into Ed's solo career than went into SFBM when Live was signed with Sony. The last few videos that Live made looked like there was zero budget. This video has special effects and extras walking around and just looks higher budget. And Ed is reaching out to fans constantly. Doing more appearances. Scheduling full band and acoustic tour dates. Giving free shows. He threw up a website and merch store in no time flat. Wow. The Friends Of Live website was run without the band putting anything into it by a very dedicated person who desrved a lot of credit. And the Live merchandise store and Homespun were run on a self-sustaining shoe-string budget by a very dedicated person who desrved alot of credit. Ed seems to care a lot more about this solo work. That's not a bad thing. It's his career, he should try and reboot it if he can.

I just really think that Ed is looking at his career and his life, and is probably looking at his buddy Daughtry and all the money he is making, and Ed is probably thinking to himself that he can make a run at it and see if he can get a second life out of his rockstar fame and fortune and hit it big again. Clearly once Live lost its luster, there is no turning that ship around. Very few bands can come back from the dead. But if he shakes things up, makes a change, maybe he can catch a spark again. Capitalize on the fanbase of Live and then add to it with new fans and maybe even Daughtry fans who think he is cool too. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he gets a little help from Daughtry in some way. I don't begrudge him this. Anybody who cares about their career, their family and is only one or two steps away from the bright light and big money of fame and fortune would invest in a reboot and take a run at it.
I just watched it again. Random thoughts - It looks like a Lightening Crashes ghost effect at the beginning. I don't like the Michael Jackson Black or white video effect where Ed's clothes change. He seems to have stolen TGF's logo style with the words that appear on the screen. His anger doesn't quite match the song because it doesn't rock THAT much. Maybe Ed thinks this rocks more than it does. Where was Adam in the video? Was he marginalized because he has a music career of his own and Ed doesn;t want him to steal the spotlight? I would have put my brother in there at least as much as the other guitarist. I still like the song and video. I just wish the Christian rock message wasn't so overt.

Good and valid points which are probably more truth than not.

I think that to say the urban vectors and fonts used in the video were 'stolen' from TGF are a bit harsh - although I can see where it might seem like that to people. Although they seem similar, they are quite different graphics and fonts to the ones used by TGF. The style is pretty common, and LIVE have used it before in the BOP era with Heaven and the FOL/MTV video of Run Away (with CT solo and no Shelby). But ye, the graphics aren't a problem for me - but their effect in modern day pop/rock is minimal and will appear lame to most of the 'new' audience he is going to be trying to focus on. Again, this is just an observation - somewhat professional since I work with vector graphics and visual composition in video/print on a daily basis and this kind of graphic art is quite common now. I think the fact that it is a 'floral' style font and graphic are purely co-incidental as these are the most common ones used by contemporary media & design houses.

WANNA SEE!!!

It was on the friendsoflive.com site in early 2003 - It is basically the 2003 May Vorst National Brussels video, but with these vector graphics and the BOP logo popping up too if I'm not mistaken.

I never managed to download that video, maybe someone else did? It used to air quite a lot on MTV and VH1 back then.

I think it is Dan!

Great find! ("where does he get those wonderful toys?"

Edit: seems like they cut the video together from different segments of the show - some of it doesn't even tie in! heh

He's gonna try to recapture whatever magic he had in the earlier years......for his solo careers sake. He'll prob be successful with the Grace song, as to me, it's a very decent AC song. But his voice from the 1991-1998 years is gone for good.

I think this a bit harsh mate I don't believe its fair 2 say he's emulating live for his career sake. He only knows live and was the main direction for a lot of the hits you call 'early years'. People hear stuff like his toned down lakini's juice and say its crap yet hear this and say he's trying to recapture early years. Damned if he does damned if he doesn't eh?!!!!! I think people need 2 ignore their predispositions and judge the material we are provided objectively. To me his voice here is better than any of the early years anyway he didn't have half the range back then that he has now. I'm not sure if he's had some vocal coaching or just doing a lot more practice but if only he did his acoustic shows now and not 12 months ago they would be of a much much higher standard. Anyway for what its worth I like this video and i'll be buying the album. Cheers.

Does anyone know if the outside-shoots for the video are completely shot in Leuven (Belgium)? Because some vague backgrounds really reminded me of Amsterdam!

People that are thinking Ed uses the 'ornaments' around the words in the video after he saw them used by TGF, are going a bit too far. I mean, those are ornament/curls/whatever that are used a lot in rock-artwork, they were used on the latest Live t-shirts as well, and I think it has absolutely NOTHING to do with TGF. Ed nor TGF are original in using that stuff. Ed maybe even't come up with it, as much of the work and ideas for videos aren't done by the artist.

And then the case Adam Kowalczyk nod.gif I think he isn't shown often, because (for the casual viewer) it's just far more interesting to show a lead guitarist than a rythem guitarist. Well, not always ofcourrse (think about Chad Taylor cool.gif ), but often the bass-guitarist and the rythm-guitarist are just not so interesting. Not saying this is the case with Adam, but I think that's just why.

By the way, when you think about it, it's quite a nice idea that they choose to film Ed just in the city, in between normal life day people walking around, without marking an area where dobody can come.

There, there. The foreword was definitely shot in Amsterdam. But then the square definitely does not look like the Dam.

It would have been much better if he really was walking down the street, maybe even crashing into the people going ther ways. Then the angry face of his would be justified on stage.
