QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Jun 1 2010, 12:29 am) *

I watched the performance on youtube with Kevin and while it isn't as good as Ed's at all, it is passable. TGF is better off doing the song decently than not at all.

People are upset that Ed's band doesn't play the song as well as the "Live guys" Well to me, it is the same deal. I'd rather hear Lakini's Juice than not hear it.

You see I'm the opposite, I'd rather hear it done well or not at all. And I think TGF do it well, and Ed's band butchers it. Ed just doesn't have what it takes to pass himself off as a credible rocker, he's a pop star now. And playing a song like Lakini's juice before prancing and gyrating on stage, then right back to bubblegum pop afterwards is just ... awkward. It fits the vibe of what TGF are about, once again I'm not sure if you remember but in the 90s Live were a rock band, which is where Lakini's Juice comes from.

The Gracious Few will be very successful, by their originality, sound, passion and live performances.

The comparisons to Ed's music and band to TGF are basically comparing apples to oranges. When Ed says 'rock record', ''rockin', 'hard driving rock', don't be fooled. He's pop and pop only. Wanna be American Ido, Daughtry faux whatever, etc. He cannot fool this long time fan. He may fool lots of people, but I think intelligent people and lots of Live fans aren't fooled by his promises and delivery any more.

Many people only discoverd Live after TDTH and I have no problem with that. Those who say things like Live is Ed and there is no Live w/o Ed are only correct when you want to make the statement that they aren't Live w/o Ed since before 2000. If Ed cannot go back to that place with his singing, life views, thats fine. Live w/o the full band co-operation is simply not Live. To me Live is no more.

To discredit or ignore what they stood for, what they sounded like, what Chad, Chad, Pat & Ed wrote and what Ed sang prior to 2000 are not looking at the evolution. They are only looking at a late era of Live and not the entire history. It's been the Ed show for so long that the old Live has been dormant except for the glimpses of full band collaboration on songs. We thought with songs, Like I Do, Lighthouse, & Believe, we'd be getting the old Live back....so we kept being held at bay....by one person.

I was happy with the hiatus/breakup as it made clear that I may get to hear what the 3 have had locked away/'sequestered' as Taylor put it. Thanks to Ed for an era of Live that I hold most dear (1991-2000).

He wont get a red cent from me now, ever, ever. I think he owes me the $14.99 I plunked down for Songs from Charred Mountain. That was the last straw for me. I may be biased, but my bias has a timeline based on the entire band evolution and not cherrypicking certain years.

I can not understand one thing.

Now Ed's voice is in perfect condition. Howcome people keep saying that he sounds goofy?

He sings as a devil. Wrong songs def. But his voice is pure brilliance.

His voice still has a brittleness to it now that it didn't used to. He still tries to make it do things it isn't supposed to. When I saw him last year in the intro to Dolphin's he did this "oooooo" thing, something that a singer like Jeff Buckley would have just made sound absolutely beautiful and haunting ... when Ed did it, it just sounded like he was straining and it was grating on the ears ... not natural to him.
Ed's voice is much better than it was a couple of years ago, but it's never going to be like it was in the 90s and now I think that is his own choice. His voice is pure brilliance in a limited range, but he just doesn't stay in that range. It's getting better, but never the same.

Howcome???

I do not think it is his CHOICE... It is the natural way of human getting...old?

I see what you mean. The falsetto stuff and oo-ing... BUt I definitely think he still is the best vocalist. At least to my taste.

A voice like his never really did grab me. When I was small, I used to listen to loads of Queen. You know, I like Ed way more.

Well could you imagine Ed of the 1993 Rhode Island bootleg "oooo'ing" during the intro of a song? His sound of that bootleg just sounded raw and natural and it fit ... he chooses to push it ... sure it doesn't crack as much as it used to a couple of years ago, but it's still not meant to do what he does with it.
His voice just doesn't have that rock-edge to it that it used to. His new songs Just in time and Great Beyond ... from what I can tell so far it doesn't sound like theres anything "wrong" with it, he's not pushing it too much ... but the pop style he's singing in to my ears just doesn't sound as impressive as years gone by.

I was listening to that Shit Towne boot that Dan posted the other day .... at the end of Supernatural when he sings "maybe ... maybe" ... it's almost a country-esque tone drawl he uses and it just sounds amazing. He seemed to experiment more with his voice in the past too, and it worked ... another bootleg recently posted from the SS era had him basically whisper a verse of Ghost ... it sounded unique and atmospheric and just damn cool ... he never does anything like that now. The almost middle eastern sounding humming he would do during Operation Spirit in the TC and SS years was deep and rough and beautiful. I just don't find his style of singing now all that interesting ... he's basically neutered himself ... and whilst his voice is improving, I still feel he's wasting it.

I guess we will still have to wait for the record to be released... However, I def. see your point of view.

You know what fucking beats my ear mostly? Grace and Zion both feature a... mmm... an irrelevant ending. With this Get up-Stand up-type of stuff. You know, it feels like it was meant for the listener to get a feeling he is at a concert or smth. At least from my point of view. Like Get The FUck Up he used to scream in LJ the last several years.... Now all we need is to hear the crowd cheering between the songs during the album.

To me it does sound... stupid.

However it is my opinion. And I am entitled to it I guess

The Gracious Few would do well in they could master time travel before their album release. If they keep delaying it, they just might.

Delayed? There was never a set release date.
