It was really hard to pick just one album by The Who. I actually used to listen all the time to Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy because it has so many songs I love in one place. (That was before mp3s). I remember getting it for one of my cousins when he was 10 because it's such a great intro to The Who.

These days I mostly make my own "greatest hits" complations from bands I like.

And Intwine is a dutch rapcore band, right?

Yes, they are dutch.

No, not rapcore; more like alternative rock/hard rock. Their first album even had some Caribbean influences.

You had me at Rick Springfield and twisted my arm with D2! I, too, am child of the 80s. (However, my very first concert was Adam AND the Ants with an opening act of INXS! Yeah, that's right.) strawberry.gif

Okay, I'm going to revive this! I love learning about new music through others. I'm changing the rules for my post though. My 5 will be albums I can't live without but I will leave out the true classics (Darkside of the Moon, Exile on Main St, etc...) and will not include anything related to Candlebox, Live or TGF. And, Being from Seattle, I also won't include bands I love such as Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog, etc... Just trying to weed out some of the obvious in favor of lesser known albums.

Here are 5 I cannot live without:
IPB Image
The Cult - Love: Been in my top 5 forever! Such a great rock record that unfortunately gets lumped into the 80's goth pile. Any fan of rock should pay close attention to this record, plus there is a newer remastered version that sounds amazing. Everybody knows Sanctuary and Rain but check out the tracks, Love and Phoenix - melt yer face psychedelic rock and the guitar work breathes with life! So tasty.

IPB Image
Pixies - Doolittle: Blew me away the first time I heard it! Surfer Rosa is a close second by this band but Doolittle has such a diverse, raw sound that has been so influential to bands such as Nirvana. Check out tracks, Tame, Mr. Grieves and Wave of Mutilation.

IPB Image
Aimee Mann - Bachelor No. 2: I'm not always into the female "singer songwriter" vibe but this album has such amazing songs and the Beatles influence sometimes tucked into the guitar and melodies is fantastic!
Check out tracks, Deathly, Red Vines, How Am I Different and Calling it Quits.

IPB Image
The Shins - Wincing the Night Away: James Mercer is one of the most poetic lyricists around and the way he uses his surfy vocals to emote melody is amazing. Unbelievable record. Check out tracks: Australia, Red Rabbits, Sea Legs.

IPB Image
Blind Melon - Soup: Obviously Blind Melon was known for No Rain and the Bee Girl but their second effort is so superior to anything on the first record. Soup didn't sell well and was cut off at the knees due to Shannon Hoon's passing but this is such a strong album in terms of the songs, melodies and arrangements. Not for everybody but should be given a chance if you didn't like No Rain or Tones of Home. Also, Nico, a collection of tunes put together after Shannon's Death is worth picking up if Soup tickles your fancy. Tracks on Soup to check out: Galaxie, Toes Across the Floor and St. Andrews Fall.

Enjoy!

This rare bootleg from Pink Floyd is the perfect album to study to. I could not live without it. I highly suggest you look on google and download this album if you are a student or are a fan of pink floyd.

IPB Image
Can's Monster Movie is only 4 songs but the passion that comes out is stronger than anything I have ever heard. Only a combination of drugs and mental illness could have gave birth to this.

IPB Image

Jar of Flies by Alice in Chains is another album with no skipped songs on it. The cover metaphor is truly poetic because a jar of flies plays out like a junkie to his excess. Alice in Chains was meant to be acoustic: This is the blues of our generation.

IPB Image

The Flying Burrito Brothers - Gilded Palace of Sin

A liberal country album that defined the southern rock sound before anyone else did? This is the one I play to relax and think about life... you won't find songs love stories on this album, just the questions of mankind that 1969 had to offer.

IPB Image

System of a Down's Self Titled album

While walking home from school, I found this cd lying in the road with a slight crack and lots of edge damage. I put it in the cd player when I got home and was blown away. I spun it every day until it broke. A fantastic driving album.

Throwing copper should be on here but meh... we all know we love live.

Okay, I know we were only supposed to list 5 but I have to add an honorable mention because of its relevance to Live.
IPB Image

Unified Theory: Not a well known band but they have connectivity to both Live and Candlebox. Guessing that many of you saw them play live when opening for Counting Crows and Live back in 2000. Also, former Blind Melon guitarist, Christopher Thorn played guitar with Live for that tour if memory serves correctly. And, drummer Dave Krusen, best known for playing on Pearl Jam's Ten record, was also in Candlebox for a couple of years, played drums on Happy Pills and also played on 8 of the tracks on Into the Sun which most people don't realize. Unified Theory is an album I definitely cannot live without. Its lush arrangements and water/sea references draw me in with every listen. UT is far from a Blind Melon rehash, though some made that comparison due to singer, Chris Shin's high vocal register. This album has no throw away tracks and resonates with me deeply. They released a second album called Cinematic in 2006 with many of the tracks being utilized from the original studio sessions but didn't make the first record. Worth checking out! Anybody have thoughts on the first UT record? For those who have not yet heard this album/band, it is a must own and I think fans of Live, Ed, TGF and Candlebox will all enjoy!
