You honestly have no idea, plenty of bands tour here all the time that you think wouldnt. thats a really old school way of thinking, it used to be this way years ago but we attract a lot more bands now. If Live toured post 2006 they'd have still sold out what they did on the 2006 arena, lable is no excuse.

They already said Aus is on the cards at some point so they'll do it fine.

I heard years ago that it costs US bands over 100,000 dollars to tour Australia. That is a big figure to overcome.

If they sell the US tour big, then I see no problem with TGF doing a tour of 5-6 big cities in Aus. Hell Dan will be all over this.

Some bands it might, other bands it might be more, other bands it might be less .. maybe it depends on where they go, where they play, how they travel internally, whether they're part of a festival or not .. theres so many different factors involved. The point is, plenty of bands tour here that don't have to be massive, if you pick your venues well then it works. There is a great indie musical culture here that supports and promotes bands that might not be here to sell out massive arenas.
You also forget that just because Australia is large, doesn't mean there is much going on. A stabbing on the streets in Brisbane will still make the news in Melbourne. A stabbing on the street in Chicago would be completely unheard of in New York.
So when bands tour here it doesn't take much to get the word out and about to music mags and websites and such. I've seen plenty of bands that don't have the star power even overseas of TGF with it's background tour here successfuly.
Hell I'm seeing Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in July, they're barely known over here and their tour is close to sell out. I don't think TGF should have much of a problem.
Will their tour be as big as Ed's? probably not. Will it be awesome? absolutely.

Absolutely, I'd be willing to help do some promoting where I can and where possible and I'm sure Dan would do the same ... it'd be good to get the word out.

Yeah me too. Except instead of Mental Jewelry for me it was TC. I was only 5 when MJ was release and that's a bit young for real music tongue2.gif MJ is one of my favourite albums now though, along with all the others. Yes, all of them (including V, BOP and SFBM). I do see the differences in the last three albums from the first bunch, but I do still enjoy them. Kind of like how someone can enjoy both tea and coffee (harhar).

Just because most people who post here like only the earlier albums doesn't mean people who like all the albums don't exist. smile.gif

Based on what we know, who do you feel will have more success in the near future when it comes to album sales, general public perception and reputation?

I think we all know who gives Eddie K. his one vote on this poll.

I gave Ed the vote. He has the name, the production capabilities, and the sound to be able to make it on the radio. Women buy everything and will generate most of his sales. I want so bad for the gracious few to do well but unless they can get signed I don't think they will be able to be anything more than cult.

It's kinda like frank zappa. His most genius stuff wasn't picked up but "valley girls" was his biggest hit. California girls loved the song and requested it on the radio even though it was lampooning them showing us that women don't listen to lyrics at all. This is how Ed can succeed with such crappy lyrics. bomb.gif

I bet they will both fail. Do we even really want one of them to get popular? It would mean that they don't get back together.

I'm cool with just remembering Live for their first 4 albums. After getting to see TGF live, it blew me away. I'm entirely ready to move forward and never look back.

I think Live is over. I think we need to accept that we won't be seeing them for a long long time.

Badman, TGF doesn't need to sign with anyone, they have their own label. They are working with the named industry big wigs to get the record out (artwork, pressing, dist, etc, concert bookings) Chad stated to please be patient as they are promising they will do it right for the fans....so this means they aren't rushing anything.

i think the fact that live came to western australia on their last three tours proves australia is doable.

They had a top 5 album on their last three tours and a major label backing them. Totally different position than TGF will be in.

Well at least TGF can bring something to the table.. and that's music that freaking rocks. Ed can bring his tree hugging hippie bullshit music and we'll see how that works for him.

I'd tell him that to his face but I don't have the $250 to waste to talk to him on the phone....

Was songs from Black Mountain really a top 5 album here? God it must have been for a split second if it was...
Also like I mentioned, seeing Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and now Nouvelle Vague next month and they're neither top 5 selling album artists here and their shows are sold out all over the country. You have a really misguided view of the music scene in Australia and should stick to what you know.

Pokey, I know you saw Ed when he went to his acoustic show, wasn't that in Australia? I don't see why TGF wouldn't tour there. As with Ed, I'm sure they would promote that they were from Live so I'm sure
that people would see them just based on that even if they haven't heard TGF music yet.

By the way, did Honest Man get released oversees yet?
