EddieK has answered this question for us the last decade. As everyone knows when the creative process changed, the product and commercial/fan response went down the tubes drastically.

Precisely. Ed took over everything V and later and it was received with utter disgust. Fans have deserted by the millions and critically? People just shook their heads and laughed. No debating that Ed's creative abilities have gone to complete shit.

Nobody except a few fanboys like Nick and other assorted retards find any value in it whatsoever. Ed will fail miserably. I doubt his record will sell enough to make back even the money it took to make it. Deservedly so. Nothing but repetitive, generic garbage.

Actually, the creative process changed with the recording of TDTH. Music and lyrics were pretty much done by Ed on that album.

That's the weird thing. TDTH was a great album and was very creative. Where did this creativity go?

The only fans left that actually like this new music by Ed and fanboys and fangirls who jumped on board during the V, BoP and SFBM era. Very sad.

Not entirely true. I've been a fan since Mental Jewellery and I don't mind most of Ed's new stuff (lyrics excepted). I even like some of it.

Yeah me too. Except instead of Mental Jewelry for me it was TC. I was only 5 when MJ was release and that's a bit young for real music tongue2.gif MJ is one of my favourite albums now though, along with all the others. Yes, all of them (including V, BOP and SFBM). I do see the differences in the last three albums from the first bunch, but I do still enjoy them. Kind of like how someone can enjoy both tea and coffee (harhar).

Just because most people who post here like only the earlier albums doesn't mean people who like all the albums don't exist. smile.gif

It's not unusual though for lyricists to lose creativity, especially those around for over 20 years. I think most people would agree though that Live created 4 great albums, which Ed was a big part of. Most bands wish they could have a 10 year run like Live had.

I became a fan during Throwing Copper after the first time I heard Lightning Crashes. Before that I never listened to any music and that was the first cd I ever purchased. However, I also like a lot of Live's music over the past 10 years. I don't really post much in the Ed forum because I don't want want to hear constantly from people that think it sucks (which they have every right to think that) or I don't want to hear that I don't know what "real music" is (whatever that is).

Music is like movies to me. I love movies that have real emotion, typically lower budget, independent films but there are many times I have just like to sit back, relax, and watch a good popcorn action film (which are sometimes my favorite). When I listen to Ed's music, I realize it's not as "creative" as TGF but it's just something that puts a smile on my face and I can just enjoy it.

There would have been nothing more than I would have liked over the past 10 years than have Ed, Chad, Chad, and Pat writing music together and rocking out like old times. But that didn't happen. Now, I'm just happy that all four are creating music that they want to create. For Ed it's catchy pop songs (often times with Christian topics) and for TGF it's full blown rock. I may not like everything that will come out from both sides, but I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the ride and see where it takes me.

Well put. Fans of Live and general music listeners have, as you mentioned, been indifferent to Ed's music from Live for many years. I don't think this will change.

Has anyone else noticed that there is a ton of buzz about TGF and a general "I could care less" about Ed and his upcoming music?

I think this is apparent in the poll results to date.

After last night I would like to cast 100 votes for TGF in this poll

In the US it is a crapshoot between the two artists. The name recognition that Ed has being the frontman of Live is stronger than Kevin Martin has with Candlebox. However, The Gracious Few have built in fans from both Live and Candlebox, so that could make up for it a bit. They are both on indie labels, so it is anyones guess who will be more success.

Overseas, Ed has a built in following and overall will find more success. He has has major tours planned for Europe, Brazil, Australia, among others. Because of that fact alone Ed will be more successful than TGF.

Candlebox hasn't played a show in Europe since 1995. They have never played a show in Australia. The band just does not have a strong overseas following. The Gracious Few may tour a bit overseas in 2011, but they will have to lean heavily on the Live side of things, and without Ed, that may not work.

My bet is that if The Gracious Few's album is released this July, it will only be in the US.

I am making my opinion on the sheer fact that European's love Rock N Roll Music. (Not whether they will be embraced for Live or Candlebox fandom). Why do you feel TGF will have to play a lot of Live songs.....this is not their main focus. I can accept your reasoning Nick, but you're missing the mark.

The Stones, Zeppelin, Scorpions, The Who, AC/DC ........many more which are representative of TGF's style of music. I think it remains to be seen, but I am going out on a limb to say it will be recognized for the music genre and they will be popular.

The TGF will be a July release per it written elsewhere.

And you know in some ways I am totally glad the following in Australia at least will be smaller. I'd love to see them at a smaller more intimate venue and get my face rocked off! But it is a point, Candlebox is completely unknown in Australia ... but hey at some point in the past so was Live. So just because a band is currently unknown doesn't mean that they can't gain a following. Ed may have more immediate success overseas, but it's not to say people can't discover TGF and get into them.

Hell if TGF could get themselves onto a festival tour that would do them wonders .... they'd fit in well at The Big Day Out or something ... that's a tour Live post 2000 would have been laughed off stage at before I'm guessing.

Live had the support of a major label in Australia, and gained success through that. For a US band to tour Australia it costs A LOT of money. That was the main reason that Live never returned once they went indie, they were going to have to foot their own bill for an Aussie tour.

It is going to be tough for TGF to make it to Australia at all. Many established bands haven't ever reached the continenent just because they can't afford to take the loss.

You honestly have no idea, plenty of bands tour here all the time that you think wouldnt. thats a really old school way of thinking, it used to be this way years ago but we attract a lot more bands now. If Live toured post 2006 they'd have still sold out what they did on the 2006 arena, lable is no excuse.

They already said Aus is on the cards at some point so they'll do it fine.
