Definately TGF hands down

Music I like?

System of a Down, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, Old Metallica, Zeppelin, Hendrix, STP, Pink Floyd

Since around 94....music grabbed me and changed my life. Helped me get a grip on the love I was repressing inside. Gave birth to my own spirituality, helped me discover the root of it.

Yeah they're still going, post-hiatus, and still have a pretty big cult following. Think their most recent release was the 'A Pyrrhic Victory' EP which has a pretty good cover of Eminem's Toy Soldiers, which is on their myspace http://www.myspace.com/myvitriol I'm not too big into them but that's probably a good thing, considering how frustrated their fans - and Bremang - are.

1) Between the examples we've heard of Ed's new music and the examples we've heard of TGF, which type of music is more your style?
To be honest, neither really grab me, but I've been giving Live the benefit ofthe doubt since V came out so maybe I've moved on musically from the band members in general? My only criteria for a band is a vocalsit who bleeds his heart and soul down my ear and I don't feed that from Ed any more or connect with Kevin at all.

2) What OTHER bands do you love/like?
All sorts, but mainly rock and singer songwriters. Right now I'm mainly listening to InMe, Dave McPherson, Dommin, HIM, Type O Negative, Lucky Jim and right now I'm obsessed with that flipping Within Temptation song What Have You Done with Keith Caputo on - man, he has one hell of a huge voice fur such a teeny little bloke. But I like everything from Sixteen Horsepower/Woven Hand (my token country band), Ours, Jeff Buckley, John Frusciante, Sisters Of Mercy (I'm such and old goth), Exit Ten, Manic Street PReachers, The Dreaming, VAST, Alice In Chains, Life Of Agony, Vex Red, AFI, Crowded House, Septembre and countless other both old and new bands.

3) WHY and WHEN did you gravitate to Live's music?
Back when Throwing Copper came out. To be honest I got the album after hearing I Alone and Selling The Drama then promptly forgot about it for a year. Then I got it out of the drawer I'd put it in, played it and that was that - it blew me away.

Well, Toy Soldiers is Martika I think. MV's demos were leaked, which are pretty sweet

1)Have to be honest and have liked both so far.....really like Grace and Appetite (Mrs hasn't like TGF at all).

2)Other music that i like or interested in are Pink Floyd, Metallica, Lada Gaga, Pink, Led Zep, Guns N roses, Roger waters, Dire straits, Matchbox 20, Linkin Park & plenty more i can't think of at the moment.

3) The first few times i heard LIVE was coming home from work with my girlfriend (now my wife) and hearing lightning crashes on the radio. Just blew us away. Loved them from then on. And then SS came out and got into them even more. Seen them just about every time they came to Aust.

1) Both

2) From metal to classical music and pretty much anything in between except for country. In pretty much any language that it's sung in (Cause I don't mind).

Bands: PJ, Intwine, 30 secs 2 mars, 3 days grace, David Gray, Zeljko Joksimovic... Beethoven (& so on & so on)

3) Long story really short: Back in 1990 picked up a tape from my best friend that read: Public Affection. Totally digged it & found out a couple of years later that they renamed into Live. Stuck on me ever since...

QUOTE(LiveFan92 @ May 22 2010, 3:46 pm) *

I've noticed in the ED vs TGF threads that some of us seem to have wildly different tastes in music, which is actually really cool.

I'm curious how everyone here would answer the following questions:

1) Between the examples we've heard of Ed's new music and the examples we've heard of TGF, which type of music is more your style?

2) What OTHER bands do you love/like?

3) WHY and WHEN did you gravitate to Live's music?

I think it would be really interesting to see the trends these answers would probably show.

Unfortunately, I figure it would take about 4 posts before someone was mocking someone else's reply or bitching about Ed or claiming TGF is evil or whatever. nervous.gif

But if that kind of crap didn't happen, and we all answered, don't you think there would be some noticeable trends? I sure do.

1. To quote Joe Dirt, "I'm a rocker, dude through and through!" so TGF is my style. Like "Honest Man" rocks so much, just never cared for the singer.

2. I'm a Cruehead, I've loved Motley Crue since I was 8 years old & listened to my cousins Shout at the Devil cassette. I also love Stone Temple Pilots, Tesla, Van Halen, AC/DC, Poison, Aerosmith, Skid Row, Cinderella, Slaughter, Lenny Kravitz, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Monkees (yes, you read that right, The Monkees are my guilty pleasure).

3. One day when I was babysitting for a family that had a satellite dish (yay!!!) I saw Live on MTV. It was the Operation Spirit video. Well, I just know good music when I hear it. tongue.gif They were young with incredible talent, intensity, they were different & intriguing. I went out as soon as I could with my babysitting wages & bought their album. "Hair Metal" fell by the way side thanks to Nirvana & LIVE were there for me to fill the void, maybe.

I do like, appreciate all kinds of music that is from people's hearts.-- REAL not fake ( trying to get thru my post without an Ed complaint thumbsup.gif )

1. TGF purely due to a rockier sound
2. King Cannons ( a kiwi band. Shot to kill/ take the rock are a couple of their best), Supergroove ( another old kiwi one), Springsteen, Dire straits, Blacklistt, Pearl Jam.
3. Late 90's, couldn't give a reason why just drawn to the sound ( i was too young to know about throwing copper when it came out, but it was the second CD i ever purchased after TDTH

Nice topic! I'll bite! Sorry I didn't see this when it originally posted.

1. TGF, hands down. I haven't been a fan of Ed since he went completely God-loving spiritual. Saw him a few months ago in Seattle as my "goodbye". I'm not a fan of his direction at all, but I respect others that do. It's just not my thing.

2. Dream Theater is my #2. Saw them in April in support of their new tour and it rocked so hard I'm still feeling it. I also like Dire Straits, old Depeche Mode, old Pearl Jam (their first 3 records), Dishwalla, Alice in Chains, Candlebox, Rush, and I'm super into Lorde right now and various other electronic music, specifically Sk'p and Chris Randall and his Micronaut releases.

3. I found Live in the Summer of 1996 shortly after my mother passed away. I'd like to think she had something to do with it, because it was exactly what I needed at the time, and I've been a fan ever since. I also started playing drums that same summer. Chad Gracey's drumming was absolutely amazing and inspired me to take it up, and I still play to this day. I couldn't imagine my life without music in it, both the kind I listen to and the kind I create.

With that said, I'm still on the fence about Live's new songs, and I think for the first time ever, I'm going to say that I need to hear the studio versions of the new songs to get a true feeling for them. The videos on YouTube aren't good enough to make a decision. Side note: Even the crappiest early live versions of Vine Street and Deep Enough were awesome, so I hope I was just in a mood when I watched the new songs, but they didn't hit me like most Live songs do.
