QUOTE(sallyinpa @ May 26 2010, 9:55 am) *

"They cheated the fans!" The key word is cheated and I won't even go into that discussion anymore, no point. Chad, Chad and Pat have no contractual obligations to mention ED (or whtever he's calling himself these days). Death of a loved one puts life in focus and reminds us to treat one another with love and respect. Legalities aside, Chad, Chad and Pat are moving forward with their music and their lives. They are happy, content and looking forward to the future as TGF doing the thing they all love the most......their music. The three of them are brothers, they are present for one another thru happy times, thru sad times and thru very difficult times. That is what friends do and they are friends in the truest sense of the word.....more than that, they are family. The pain of being disillusioned by a long time friend fades in day to day life but that doesn't mean the deep seeded hurt doesn't remain within. The courts and lawyers will now handle the sad facts that are just that FACTS. We remain positive that TGF will bring joy to it's members and fans as well. We choose to focus on the positive and look forward to the upcoming months. LIVE was a huge part of our lives and it would be unthinkable to cast those years aside with angst. It is what it is! Love your family, treat them as a present from God because, as a very smart woman once told me, that's exactly what they are: presents! Peace Out

QUOTE(Bremang @ May 25 2010, 6:48 pm) *

Now you're talking about Ed ruining Ed. I think this is a interesting subject that brings about many factors and confusion.

I see many people talk about Ed losing his songwriting ability, singing ability, and losing the drive to keep the concerts fresh and energetic. I read about Ed selling coffee, and phone calls, essentially selling out. I read about Ed being the cause of Live's downfall.

I think that Ed is significantly losing vocal strength, songwriting ability, and energy on stage in recent years.
I wouldn't completely blame Ed for selling the coffee and phone calls. There are so many possible reasons to justify selling coffee and phone calls. The industry has changed, Ed doesn't get a steady income now. The band Live has sold tons of merchandise unrelated to their music, which is part of trying to make a profit. Thats cause the second Live signed to Radioactive, they sold out. Tshirts, they sold alot, and it was to their target audience. Now the target is probably people in their 30's and 40's, homebodies. Ed sells coffee, chocolate, and phone calls. Hes making his target audience happy, because those are the ones he can please. George Foreman sells grills, and Ed is putting his image on a product too - coffee. While it is clearly to make money, it doesn't look like that evil a product. It is organic and fair trade, I wouldn't be surprised if it is good, though I don't drink coffee. As for phone calls, I wouldn't be surprised if some of us spent 200 bucks back in 1997 and would think it was worth every penny.

Every band member has gone on side projects and personal capital ventures. Gracey owns a buisness, probably a multi-million dollar one. Taylor has been trying to flip scripts and other bands for a while. Ed doesn't really have other ventures going on right now. Ed is a songwriter in this life. Why shouldn't he try to supplement his income? We don't know his finances, or whether he would have to find another job. The guy is trying to make a buck. He probably has no decent contract, and being a rock star doesn't last forever, hes clearly slipping. Yet he needs to make money for his family. I wonder what Ed wife says, or if shes worried about Live, so long as the children get food on the table and go to school.
And maybe Ed just got tired of doing the same thing for 20 years, while he sees himself growing old and less appreciated. Some of us consider Ed going downhill ever since TC, or TDTH, or 2006...but we all agree the in the last couple years the band was lacking on stage. They still got attention during this time, and were still appreciated by many. The reputation of Ed Kowalczyk was still in good standing around the world.

It wasn't until Chad's blogs that radio stations, and news outlets, started associating Ed with greed. Chad certainly didn't only clear the air, but used the term greed in Ed's name. There is no doubt that he was also pointing the finger. He could have just let it remain private, or coined it an internal disagreement. Gracey let him have it too.
Back to the main point of this thread....THE NEWSLETTER. Sure, the blog posts were a while ago, but we haven't been intimately updated since, and Chads words vs. Ed's words are put to the test of our faith. Chad has SINCE THEN, expressed dismay about Ed having a stolen version of the mailing list. He made it clear to us that he didn't like the idea of Ed on the mailing list, and this was more recent. But in the end, maybe its all fake, or maybe they cooled off, or maybe they are contractually obliged. I'd take fake and contractual obligation over being cooled off, since Chad was against Ed's stolen version of the list.

it's plain to see you are a fan of Ed and Chad...not so much! hehe.gif

Wow.....that was an enjoyable read. But i'm sure i've read alot of this before.

Very well done by TGF.....(contractual or not).

P.S. Don't see anything on Eds site promoting TGF (Maybe Nick can do something on facebook, instead of talking shit on here).

Why should Ed do it after being cast away by the band.

QUOTE(Pokey @ May 26 2010, 8:41 am) *

The thing that makes me question the whole contractual thing is that TGF also left the part about Ed in when they posted it to their Facebook and Twitter etc.. surely if they were only putting it in the email because they had to they would leave it out of the other forms of communication.

I do like that you're coming up with angles to this...however

the Live newsletter could potentially have legal pretenses that forbid variations, might be copyright issues. A single letter helps greatly to keep the stats organized. Easier to gather click-throughs and conversions. A split test ad might not be desired by the management. They may also use methods which deliver to all social networks along with the mailing list for convenience. The making of another list would cost more money and time, especially in terms of monitoring the response. In the case that they'd simply remove Ed from things like Facebook while using the same letter, fans might take note, and TGF wouldn't want that for whatever reason. But even if TGF used an entirely new letter, it could also be true that adding Ed Kowalczyk's name to TGF news could have several benefits. Search engine spiders would pick up TGF more often when someone searches for EK, effectively increasing TGF web presense. Chad and the boys might still collect royalties for the Live tracks that Ed plays in concert, and it could possibly still be in their interest to send people to Ed's shows.

And after reading this, I hope you ultimately don't forget that I'm trying to speak of only potential situations...under a hypothetical relationship between TGF and Ed, only because you claim that "surely if they were only putting it in the email because they had to they would leave it out of the other forms of communication."

Very true. If it was contractually required, it would have to be in all communications me thinks.
It's simply a turning of the page, time passed, less angry, more distance, new music ready to be released, new shows, everything done their way....,.I can continue.

Why don't you go and ask them when they call you later today to see how well you've been promoting the band

Is it greed when Live sold t-shirts and other accessories, or sold out to a record label

Bre, let it go. Why are you going on and on giving these text book thesis like hypotheticals. My comment was regarding the thread we ranted over regarding the breakup was a hoax. I think in time you'll change your position or soften it a bit.

The next person you're challenging in this thread said it all quite nicely.

T-shirts are one thing. After flipping out and doing everything possible to protect the privacy of one's family, then a few years later when its convenient to put them on overpriced coffee to sell is another thing.

The only reason it seems that I have been taking Ed's side is because there's been so much nonsense against him, and I felt up for commenting. I'd probably end up doing the same for Chad if I read a boring wave of senselessness against him while heralding Ed unjustly.
