Your last few sentences are why your debate is full of hot air. Why did not all 4 get big heads and end the band in 2003 or there after? Why try to keep things together if you're ego is not inflated.
Live's had plenty of gems? They did write em, they weren't allowed in the process...see my lower signature. I think if you like TGF music, you'll get to hear what they've had stored away for a long time. What rock are you living under? Youre in fantasy land my man.

Ok...now how does my last 3 sentences show that "my debate" is full of hot air?

I hope you can refrain from the put downs as well from now on.

I will refrain from the put downs but we've had these battles before with no winner. I do not agree with your point of view and that is ok. Can you honestly say to me with a straight face, the past few albums were any good?

Hmm, V took some time, but then it grew on me. BOP and SFBM only have a few selected tracks that I dig. But they definitely started to get worse in their live shows in my opinion, after 2003. But people still liked it, and Live was still operational as far as world tours were concerned, why break up?

Can't blame everything on Ed being a jerk. Eds voice took a beating over the years. Gracey is the head of his company, Chad went into film and production. They all have other priorities, they now have children. You'd be amazed how having a kid will change you.

You posted right "after reading this entire thread" and you were trying to talk about what went on in this thread. Doesn't matter where you draw your thoughts from, your main conclusions are still lacking for the same reasons I mentioned.

Poking holes in my statements with semantics and ten cent words does nothing to support your claims

QUOTE(Bremang @ May 25 2010, 12:48 pm) *

You miss the point then my friend. Hardly anyone viewed the letter as manipulative. TFG fans were saying that it was gracious. Nick said it was a plan to get Live and Ed fans to TFG. That was the only manipulative statement, and i'm sure the band considered it, big deal. Meanwhile, my idea was that it wasnt maniulative at all, but just mandatory to put Ed's name in the newsletter due to contractual obligations.

Tiger, Chad probably knew that his words would hurt Ed's reputation. Do you not agree? Even if he was using it mostly to explain the breakup, it would have had the negative effect on Ed anyway. It wasn't even necessary. He clearly pointed the finger, and expressed being the victim.
But the point is, calculated or not, this wasn't a vital part of the the argument in the thread, simply that Ed's reputation was ruined by the letter. It was used as evidence to speculate Chads possible current stance on Live, and how to interpret the newsletter.

I don't think you really know Live's track record in terms of honesty. They were under the guise of labels most their career, whos only intention is to make money. Chad's blogs over the decades are notoriously flimsy, full of false promises. Fans are gullible, we'd never know what liberties the band has taken. But it seems less significant, because Live still brought the rock, and its all part of creating an image.

Ed is way more beaten down by the TFG folks. I mean, how many Ed supporters are there here, really? I know there is Nick, but I don't see anyone else. Me? I'm just against nonsense. I'm cool w. both bands.

Cmon, I hope you realize that your ideas are very loosely based on whats being said in this thread.

You make some good points in this post.

The thing is, even before the Live split happend .. Ed was copping a lot of flak. Not so much on his character, but his abilities. So the seeds were already planted. I know I for one and others were sick of songs just penned by Ed K, you can't deny the noticable difference in the songs penned with his name only compared to ones with the other guys. Then there was his failing voice, which can't always be helped true, but his instance at pushing it to places it just wasn't supposed to go really hurt things. Thankfully he seems to be realising that now and slowly reeling it back in. Then there were his stage presence, it just seemed so mechanical and rehersed and like a "show" rather than something spontanious and in the moment, and well, Live.

My point being is that regardless of CT's words, a good portion of people would probably still be very TGF positive. Before CT made his statement, Ed was selling his coffee and pendants and $500,000 phone calls etc.. he was copping flak for that from people, that had nothing to do with CT's comments. So in a lot of ways I see Ed's character being ruined by Ed.
I like to think of myself as objective, and if CT put forward his words and it just didn't fit right or sound right to me, then I'd question it much more heavily and possibly think worse of CT for it.
But what he said just seemed to fit hand in glove with what Ed had degenerated into.

It's pretty sad that they can't send out a message to the Fans of Live without bringing out all the conspiracy theories. Could it be that they actually just wanted to honor the Fans of Live by updating them with what's going on? Nah, too obvious. People are cherry picking a few passionate comments that were made about the demise of their band as representative of how they are and proof that there is some sort of smear campaign going on against Ed. As nearly everyone has acknowledged, Chad, Chad, and Pat have always been very gracious (no pun intended) towards their fans and respectful in honoring their relationship with the band Live. I see the newsletter as just more evidence of that.

Yeah right, Ed is plenty blasted on his page or elsewhere on the internet. But I thought we were just talking about this board.

That one girl who TGF responded to, that was just silly IMO. If any response at all, the proper thing to do would be to suggest the opt-out function in the email, maybe even tell her privately. But they singled her out in public and humiliated her. Thats the one thing I actually disagree with. Do they expect to not have any dissenting opinions? She even had an OK point, although very debatable.

What is the MM forum?

Yeah right, Live had plenty of gems in the past 10 years. How much better do you think Ed could have done? Hes over 30, had vocal surgery, 2 kids. Americas spotlight turned away from alt rock in the late 90's. The music industry regressed. What do you expect. Its not like anyone was preventing Chad, Chad and Pat from coming up with some kick ass songs to write....but you say its Ed's ego that left the band flat. Maybe he has an ego. Go break away from normal society when you're 18 and sell 20 million records, become a rock star, and we'll see how well your ego is in check. Meanwhile, Ed sings about peace, love, and lack of ego, inspiring on millions of occasions in the past 10 years. Well put my man.

Some good points in here.

Although, I still don't know why this argument carried on - I told you guys it was gonna end up going in circles.

I see Chad Taylor's pity act, and both Chad's immature swiping at Ed as a huge "Gracious" turnoff. Not to mention the music.

Last summer I was excited about Kevin Martin joining with the guys, but things quickly went downhill from there.

But Ed's salesman act was cool yeah? Basically anyone swiping at Ed to you is a massive turn off, God forbid people who know him a hell of a lot better than you think poorly of him, you know much better than they do!

So everytime you have a fallout with a friend, the mature thing to do is run him down on Facebook and Twitter? The Chad's showed all the maturity of 14 year boys with their post break-up actions.
