I'm pretty sure I lose a little bit of my soul each time I read a comment from Nick. I'm shocked that people even listen to the radio these days. Singles? It's all about touring these days for most bands - not album sales and singles.

Then why bother release a single at all? Promoting a song from your album over your lead single when you have interview time on radio station makes zero sense.

Hey, you're view of the situation on what TGF is trying to accomplish is a bit skewed towards what YOU think is important. I find it interesting that Ed chose 99X in Atlanta to do his first US promo of his material and not in his hometown area(105.7). I do realize he's recorded /aired there twice in the 90's and they are a big supporting station for Live. He's doing all his promo work in Europe...why? Oh wait....there is a small US audience for him. lol.gif

I'm sure they played Honest Man on the radio too, so inesence they probably got to promote 2 songs instead of one. And really, maybe they trialled both and Appetite just sounded better acoustic .. jesus not everyone thinks with dollar signs when it comes to music .. it really is a business rather than pleasure with you isn't it?
The rest of us hear it and just appreciate the music, you hear it and straight away think the marketing.

Really liking the bluesy sound that they got with Appetite on this one!

That was a nice and relaxed interview. Thanks for sharing!

The Gracious Few are trying to get people to hear their new single. They had the perfect opportunity today, and totally blow it.

Live sold millions of albums by promoting their singles, not by playing random songs off of album's with no set release date.

We have heard their new single. Stations are playing it. In fact people have now heard 3 songs prior to anything official, prior to Honest Man release.

Your interpretation of blowing it might be better served in another capacity.

In today's digital age, TGF has recorded a collection of great songs which will sell in album format vs. a one or 2 singles and the rest being crap.........insert Artists name here.

Thanks for the files guys!

OTD, don't worry about Nick - It is apparent that he wouldn't know a good rock song if it bit him. Twice.

Thanks again guys!

The problem you're not seeing is that the music landscape has changed since Live did their big sales in the mid nineties. With iTunes and other such programs people have become more single driven and cherry pick particular songs off an album instead of buying the whole thing. For the sake of simplicity musicians have found two ways of dealing with this phenomena:

1.) Make a CD of singles (a la SFBM). Most of the pop and pop rock artists do this, hence why their CDs lack much thematic consistency (or even in many cases sonic consistency aside from the lead singer).

2.) Make a continuous CD and use concerts/interviews/tv shows to play other tracks then what is currently circulating on the radio airwaves. Music consumers these days will not buy a full CD unless they're a fan of the band or there's more then two quality songs on it. By releasing Honest Man to the airwaves, Tredecim to the fans (and then later through myspace) and playing Appetite on their first radio interview TGF is showing not just their fans but casual listeners as well that this band is worth a $14.99 investment.

Though, I doubt TGF were plotting this away in the green room before they went on. I still think they ran through Honest Man acoustically and weren't completely pleased and instead went with Appetite that had a more natural transition.

Just a quick word on the performance: I must say, at first having heard very few Candlebox songs, I was concerned with how KM would sound along with CT, PD and CG; but on the basis of THAT acoustic performance I can't see how anyone could argue - the guys made a great choice in their lead vocalist.

I can't see how he wouldn't deliver a killer version of The Dolphin's Cry or cover other great rock bands material with the unique twist that CT, PD and CG always give/gave LIVE covers.

Listen to that single acoustic radio performance and you can hear how talented this band really is and how talented CT, CG and PD are. Truely world class!

I know it's not a popularity contest, but rock music or pop music or any genre: how can you listen and compare the 2 bands (Ek's 'band' and TGF) and NOT see that TGF aren't even on the same planet as EK's.

We are lucky to have CT, CG, PD (KM and SH too!). We are lucky to have this band.

Psyched for the album. Want more music in the mean time!

Really exciting times.

Yeah, I'm sure they're sitting around right now thinking they just blew it. Who could be responsible for such a massive blunder? I'm sure the band members are waging war over this right now. I hope they don't break up over this. If they make it another day perhaps you can offer your consulting services to really set them straight.
