"I walk the Line" performed by an American Idol as a bonus track on a +Live+ record?!? Boy, that would be pathetic!! no.gif

I thought his "connection" with Live was helping him to get famous, not the other way around... uhoh.gif
But, judging by Ed's attitude towards the whole "Idol"-thing, that's not very likely to happen...luckily!!

Haha, yes it would. That's not what I meant, though.

I meant that I wouldn't be surprised to see Live's version of "I Walk the Line" added to SFBM somehow. Since it was never on an official Live album ("Awake," being a best-of, doesn't really count), it wouldn't be a revolutionary thing to include it on SFBM somehow with the hype that it generated with the American Idol thing.

Who knows. Now I hear that May 9th may be the U.S. release date for SFBM again, so at this point I'm really unsure about what to think.

Sure seems like they are really on the fence about wheter or not to release it in the US. You can question Sony all you want but they at least put The River out there and it hasn't done squat on radio.

Remember when Radioactive released Heaven as a single? It also didn't do squat on the radio. Once LIVE switched over to Geffen, Heaven exploded onto Hot A/C market. A good label can help push a song to become a hit. If Epic really wanted to push "The River" it would become a hit in the Hot A/C radio, because it fits perfectly in that market. Those who argue that "The River" isn't a good single, really don't listen to POP/Hot A/C radio. "The River" may not appeal to hardcore/old-school LIVE fans, but it would appeal to a great deal of Hot A/C listeners in the US.

However, I personally do not think Epic will push the band in the US at all.....and I also don't expect any single to pick up over here off of the album. If Epic chose not to capitalize off of the American Idol publicity, they are just leaving the band/album to die. Frequent delays and pulling back money for promotion doesn't help either. It really is a shame, because there is an audience out there for "Songs from Black Mountain," but sadly few will end up hearing it.

If anyone is interested in helping promote the album.....feel free to PM me. If Epic isn't going to do there job, we should try our best to get the album out there. Its the least we can do for all the years of enjoyment the band has given us!

You are giving the labels way too much credit and selling LIVE short in the process. Epic cannot make The River a hit. It will be a hit if people like it. Heaven became a moderate hit on HOT AC because people liked it, not because of Geffen. I'd say it's no surprise that The River is not taking off based on the feedback on this very website.

Most people in the US haven't even heard "The River" yet, and it has tested well in big markets like Vegas, Chicago, and Reno. It is clear that Epic has stopped pushing the song. If it was only the song's quality keeping it back, why wouldn't Epic immediately release a second single to offset their failure? Mystery would do well in the US They are holding back promotion, for a reason that none of us know?

I highly doubt that Sony would sign the band and not release the album in the States. That seems to be more what you would do towards the end of a deal rather than the beginning of it.

Also, there would be no legal grounds for terminating the contract with Sony. Having seen a number of record contracts before, the company always maintains control over what is released and when.

Of course, why an established artist or group would sign with Sony, who has a reputation of shelving albums of established artists (a la Fiona Apple's 2 year delay) is beyond me, especially in the face of struggling sales on their previous couple of releases.

Not to mention the 200,000+ albums live would sell in the states is still a lot more than some of the artists they have.

I've seen crazier things happen. Who knows what kind of deal they have anyway. Is it multiple CD's or one and done. If its the latter, it wouldn't suprise me at all. Anyone know the costs associated with releasing it? 200,000 units may not be worth it to them. Who knows. It's all speculation. I'm not sure why they would wait any longer unless they are going to give The River another push or release another single.

I don't know what Epic is thinking, but I think they are going to sigicantly lessen their promotion of "Songs from Black Mountain." We just have to hope that they decide to put some money behind the release of Mystery, and it really picks up. They seem to be done with The River in the states, so once they decide on the release date, throw money into the second single and release it to rock then hot a/c. That's the hopeful scenario, not sure if it will happen.

Michelle from FOL said the website is down for maitenance and the date is still June 13th. It should be back up very soon. She is also trying to get posters to promote at the shows and at music stores. She also wants to sell albums at shows once it gets released.

Good news on the Live front.

well i dont want to wait till june. i didnt want to wait till march. or april. or may. im thinking of hitting ebay or emailing some dutchies and asking about paypaling them money. i understand labels have to do what the have to do. and maybe theyre waiting to drop the cd until the guys get back from the europe run to be able to push the new cd but, yeah no i dont wanna wait. this was suppose to be my "get me through the busy season" at work cd cause it should have come out at the start. so i geared myself to having it at work for the days im dealing with parents who have more money than sense and their 3 year old runs the house and i nnneeeed this sanity cd. lol.

I give them to my friends, and keep a few for myself. I rarely buy CD's so I splurge when the new Live one comes out.
