Yes, the leather pants era. Both Chad and Pat went through that. I don't think Chad would still fit in those leather pants though.

It's amazing just how great Ed's voice was during those performances. He didn't try to over-sing the songs and didn't play his falsetto games and ruin the songs.

But, you can see a transition between the I Alone and SS era vids. They were much more "rockstar" in 1997 and Ed was noticeably gayer. Although I think SS is one of the best albums ever, and TDTH a very solid one too, this Ed thing goes all the way back to the rocket that TC became.

You're 100% right. He really started with the weird dancing and prancing around on stage for the SS tour. Even though all of that was going on, he didn't ruin the songs by over-singing them and inserting his horrible falsetto. That all started on TDTH tour unfortunately.

It all comes down to him playing less and less guitar with each passing tour. In the early days, he played along on most songs. The more he put down his guitar, the more annoying stuff he started doing during concerts.

Exactly.

The thing that annoys me the most is his changing of perfectly good songs. Change is good but when you're adding in falsetto that doesn't fit? It ruins the song almost. Ed does this so much now, I'm almost convinced he doesn't realize how bad it sounds. He has no clue, or else he wouldn't do it. Sometimes I listen to him and I simply cringe to the point of actually shutting him off.

But then he does an acoustic version of Zion that floors me. reeking of emotion and truth in his voice. Then they produce the song and I'm left laughing. Took every single redeemable thing about the song out of it.

But those SNL days were unbelieveably great. What a toll this guy turned in to. Unreal.
