QUOTE(Jim @ May 13 2010, 7:59 am) *

Edit: Ed's drummer is really terrible. I'm no musician or anything but all I hear from this guy are cymbals.

You need to know that the camera it was recorded with was situated right between the two monitors for lead vocal and drums. I actually stood BEHIND the first speakers for the crowd, resting my knees on the edge of the stage. It's obvious, the sound is not the same as at the back of the club. I was a little disappointed when the guitarist failed to deliver THE RIFF at the end. You can see that my camera swings to the right before Ed does. I was hoping for some cool effect here but the riff didn't come.

QUOTE(TheBeacon @ May 13 2010, 11:59 am) *

Is it just the video or does the venue Ed is playing at seem like it has a capacity of about 20 people. That stage setup and the wall is right there looks as if its a stage a local bar or something. This may explain why its a sale out crowd! shrug.gif

It's a 400 capacity club with a very low ceiling. The stage is about 2 feet high. It's a long tube with a bar at one side. Everyone has played the Luxor. Any new band from the UK plays here first when they cross the channel. They always make the same round. AB in Brussels, Paradiso in Amsterdam, Luxor in Cologne. (Adding Den Atelier in Luxemburg lately.) Three legendary venues at a very close distance on the map. Good for us who live here.

Hi Everyone. I'm new here. I've been reading for years, just never responded. Somehow, now, mildly to moderately drunk, feel the need to respond because secret samadhi is such an amazing album. Gas hed is my favorite ever, so I feel a bit privileged to have been at the westbury show to have seen them play it.
Anyway, I don't hate the new bands version of LJ but it's not the same, or as good. Though, it's hard to tell exactly from a cell phone video. I love ed's voice. I've loved his music through the years. It's true that since TDTH his lyrics are different. SS was amazing. Happy people have a really hard time making good music.
Many of you bicker, which I find weird, but the soap opera of this board is fun. It all comes down to the music. I'm terribly sad over LIVE's breakup, but I don't really know who screwed who because I wasn't there. So I will listen to the gracious few and ed, and whoever makes music I like wins. I am not sure I want to see Ed's new band play LJ. (I will miss the stomp, and I really agree the new drummer looks a crack pipe short of the scary people in the house down the street from me.) I definitely don't want to see the new band do Gas Hed. That one concert is enough forever.
Also, I made excellent chicken for dinner tonight.
That is all.

I'm jealous.
But in a good way.

Well, I really hope they don't try to play Iris because I just saw this and was blown away.

Yeah, that one is one of the best played Iris' in concert.

I am sure TGF could raise it up to a new level. I am positive.

Ugh. Not the same. The musicians cannot deliver on this one. Sorry My honest opinion

I'd much rather Ed play it with his new band than have Kevin Martin raping it.

If KM does a bad job then they'd probably just be as bad as each other, but I doubt he'd do as bad a job as a group of amatuer musicians.

whatever happens, it's not gonna be the same as LIVE with Ed. That's for sure.

Some of us will like the old material being re-done by TGF and Ed, others won't.

Heck, I remember in the Paradiso DVD thread some time back, we were opposed to the way Ed changed the lyric in Operation Spirit and who could forget the way he said 'Spirit'?! One comment I remember (not sure who tho), did it perfectly as 'SPIII-RAT!' or something, which was spot on!

LIVE meant (or means) a lot to everyone posting on this board here. There will be contrasting opinions on what should and shouldn't be covered and how it should be done etc.

We're all in it together for the long one, because LIVE gave us these great albums in MJ, TC, SS and TDTH - whoever is gonna be covering them will hopefully do justice to it. I'm of the opinion, that Ed and his band haven't. That is just what I think tho. I think he should perhaps leave the LIVE stuff alone. I know many are with me.

haha that was me, still can't listen to that track cos of SPII-RAT!

But honestly different isn't always bad. Of course ed's new band will sound different and of course Kevin Martin will sound different. If ed's band was good-different then hey I'm all for it, but they're really average musicians. If he'd surrounded himself with some quality then awesome! So KM will be different, only time will tell if that's good or bad for live songs.
