New City got played in Holland in 2008. I mean, not PERFORMED, but PLAYED. If I recall it right, it was in Stairway To Heaven, a rock bar, where Jimmy Lang was spinning rare video footage and New City was among those

Yep it was during a Fanclub meeting in 2008 the day before The Paradiso Concerts,...but +ED+ it wasn't in Stairway To Heaven this time.

This time it was in a bar in Amsterdam, but I cannot remember the name anymore, all I know it was at the Rembrandt Square, where later that day the band came along to say Hi to there fans cool.gif

why is it that bands hold onto this recorded material and not release it to the fans?

Not too be too critical or general here, but is there a reason(s) why this is done?

I'm sure we all would pay for a 15 track album of just b-sides and unreleased material, right? Using LIVE as an example, who's material had admittedly become 'stale', why didn't they just do a B-sides album, rather than SFBM or even Radiant Sea, which wasn't really anything we hadn't heard 'cept RS and BI.

Just saying...

The main reason is record deals. When the band was on the label for SS, TDTH, TC I doubt they had any control over that. For a label to release something they will rarely just let the band post a song for download or anything like that. The label puts a lot of money into the promo and whatnot because they want to make money. It is one of the reasons the record label model is falling apart, and you see a lot more independent bands releasing EVERYTHING.

The other reason is that some of these b-sides were never fully recorded, many of them got stuck at the demo stages. At that point the band and their producer will pick the songs they want to fully record and just do those for the record to save time and money. Now, this doesn't answer for a song like "Deeper" which was clearly fully recorded and nearly ready to go on the album.

These responses also can't answer why they didn't put more fully recorded versions as CD single b-sides, especially a song like "Deeper." It would have increased sales amongst the fanbase for sure. Now would be an awesome time for CT to drop by and give us an answer!

Thanks for that insight as I have no clue how the music industry works. Let's hope that whatever happens, one day all the stuff gets put out there for people to hear, in whatever form they're in - because I'm sure that's why the effort and time was put in to recording bits and pieces and even demos or b-sides - ultimately, for fans to hear.

And we are The Fans of LIVE (dot com) heh

ah yes, I do remember your Zenit St. Petersburg signature when you won the UEFA Cup a few years ago!

I'm hoping we get another Russian in Igor Akinfeev!

ps: have you checked out Arshavin's website? It is too funny.

I wonder why LIVE didn't carry on playing Vine Street at shows, since it was a release of some kind on TSUFL single if I remember?

Ok so does anyone remember what it sounded like, fast or slow. Was it a good song from what you rememeber? We need Jimmy Lang to pop back up!

Also, were there any other b-sides played we dont even know about ?
