Is this a concert or an interview?

it was a concert but its already done shit! sorry! I was looking online at some reviews of the gig from today in Amsterdam and so i found out that the gig in Haarlem was live on the radio .

Some reviews :

Ed + new band was fresh and full of passion!

WOW loved the "new" overcome!!!

A bit odd Live without Live ...... new songs are totaly top!

I just arrived home smile.gif so maybe I'll type more tomorrow.

Anyway:

Let me start by saying I liked Ed seeing again after 2 years. I was a bit dissapointed in the new band tho. Not that they are bad, but seeing this peformance showed me what a class guitarist Chad Taylor was (sorry: still is!), and his absence was really noticiable in many, many songs. At least, as a Live-fan. And of course the same for Gracey and Pat. It was almost horrible to hear this band play "Lakini's Juice".... I know it's cool to cover LJ guys, but please stop! I repeat, they are not bad, but it just sounds a little like a band that tries to cover Live. Don't know how to describe the feeling better.

Second point of critique (sorry wink.gif) the fact Ed started with his band with a TOTALLY UKNOWN SONG (at least for many people there). Even Live fans wouldnt know it. Oke, I knew it via youtube, (it was "Drive" - and I think it's quite a nice song aftrer hearing it today), but it was a very bad choice. All Over You, which followed, would be a much better opener for this performance with a new band. Everyone was excited there before the show, until the first song kicked in and everyone (that was enthousiast a minute before) was like: WTF is this ??

And apart from that, it was quite a small stage for the frontsinger of one of the biggest bands in the 90ies .....) and the sound was absolutely bad in the first songs of this one hour-show. Not caused by Ed or the band ofcourse, but the festival could have prepared this much better. That together with an unknown song-opening made it almost a little embarrassing for Ed, as the audience heard an unknown song with a very bad sound, so that everyone didnt really know how to react.

Later in the hour, the sound was much better. In some song, the Live sound was sooooo missing that I couldnt help but thinking: stoppp! Other songs were quite nice (the Distance, Grace, TDC, to name a few). And don't know why exactly, but somehow this show reminded me of how nice the song Heaven is. New songs were "okay", but as far as I can judge now, Grace and Drive are by far the better songs, the other 2 I heard quite soft/pop and sounded the same (but I wait till the album). Also: no Zion was played? If the new songs dont show up on youtube soon, I will upload them (I recorded a few of them).

Only real highlight for me was Overcome. Why the f*ck was the band Live not able to perform it as a band in the 8 years they played the song since it got released, and the first random band that plays with Ed makes the song betteror more interesting then I have ever heard. WEIRD. At some point, a chick entered the stage to sing with Ed. Nobody had an idea who it was tho, and it didnt got explained either, as the performance ended after that like immediately (but that was due to time destrictions, I guess).

Ed was good, I have heard him much better, but he was still very convincing as a singer and ofcourse the highlight of this new band. He came on stage with a hoody and hood on this head, doing the gangsta-type of shit, which was actually more funny than stupid (which you'd expect when you hear this). But I think it was also funny because it was a Adidas hoody that I saw many Amsterdam people wear (he must have buyed it in a shop earlier today thumbsup.gif ed loves Amsterdam).

Last thing I wanted to say: Adam! He was the only factor (aside from Ed ofcourse, duhhh), that brought some elements in the songs that reminded me of Live. He also seemed to stay much more in teh picture then when he was in Live. He got really enthousiastic in the beginning and was connecting with the first rows in a great way (I guess I he was excited to see familiar dutch faces or so).

yup

hahaha, nahh... I wasn't focussed on trying to be happy with something really new musically when I went to see Ed this week. He's just still good (and at times awesome) singer, which is the reason I keep interested in him. My enthousiasm for Overcome was just because the ORIGINAL band that created the song, never performed it this way on stage, which is really too bad.

Good to see Adam had a lot of fun wink.gif

Song...I dunno....has to grow on me I guess.... but being in Holland (and given the love our DJ's have for Live/Ed)...that will happen sometime in the future

And having said that.... what an awkward transition from that song to All over you.... oh man.... eh.gif
