I think you will see that your last paragraph will be proven false. His solo album shows tremendous range. Also, let me offer this gem from their last CBox album:

I see you edited your post Bremag after I posted, to make it sound more of your opinion than more black & white. (Regarding Kevin)

Just one listen, i'd say its has some nice backing track, i'm not mad about Kevin's input again. Just a 2nd tier of rock singer I feel. Still don't think theres anything original about him there, and well, I am not impressed.

Ya know, Kurt Cobain was one of the first to call Candlebox out as a weak band. And they gained quite the reputation after that as impostures. I've heard their debut album, and I just don't understand how that sold 4 mil copies. They we're like a poor mans pearl jam.

Candlebox didnt get that big big breakout and they've had their band issues but they still play today, and I think a lot of their songs are killer. They have a nice following.

They were on Madonna's label and they got overshadowed on their sophmore record by Alanis Morrisette in 1995 (also on Maverick). Far Behind still pays their bills....thats why they sold 4 mil. I bought it when it came out. Cobain was a legendary personality....sadly his personal problems .....what can I say.

I think Foo Fighters is much more musically sound than if say Dave Grohl was left to play drums in Nirvana, hypothetically speaking.

QUOTE(Kymra @ May 7 2010, 1:37 pm) *

I think that's mostly because their longtime, hardcore fanbase had already stopped coming to shows, Nick. That leaves the people who are there because they know Live sang Lightning Crashes and they had nothing better to do that night. I noticed the same thing at the Meadowbrook show in June 2009. Most people just stood there except during, IA, STD, LC, WD, etc..

The only reason I went to that show was because I had heard they pulled out Gas Hed and Hold me Up. In retrospect I am glad I got to see them one more time. But my days of seeing every show I could had been over for a while.

Now it's all about Widespread Motherfucking Panic!!! rockin.gif

Live overtoured at the end of their run. Once they lost their label, they played shows in the Northeast roughly 20 times per year. They wore out their regular fans, and a Live concert no longer became special, it was run of the mill event.

That is why the break is very good for the band.

The break is good because it keeps Ed from destroying any more of Live's legacy, not like there was much left after V anyway. We're talking about the man who wrote an amazing song like TBD only to turn around and ~6 years later write the lyrics "sweaty palms, sweaty thongs, & sweaty backs".

Actually their setlist improved with variety after the BOP tour. We got a lot of great songs back in the setlist every year after 2004.

Hmmm... apart from near the end when things like Top and Hold Me Up made an appearence, I can only always remember people desiring more variety. Wasn't enough.

yeah see you and I have different ideas on what a setlist change actually means. At the very end they did it, but for a long time before that it was stagnant.

It was very stagnant for long stretches. So many songs to choose from in later years. And I do remember Ed messing up lyrics a lot in later years. I'm glad they actually played some of the older tunes.

Look at Pearl Jam for example. They played four nights at the Spectrum in Philly, different setlist every night, songs they have'nt played in years or never, and even if they did play a different song it wasnt in the same spot as the night before.

Thats how you change up a setlist and keep things fresh.

Remember, everyone, that Nick is not a real LIVE fan. He didn't become a fan until AFTER V, so he has no frame of reference. He's like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know what's going on. Don't mind him.

Totally, Ween is another .. saw them 3 nights in a row, they didn't play the same song more than twice and they played 30+ songs each night. Treat your fans with respect, especially if you play multiple nights in the same city.
