In a recent article Life after Live in a Dutch magazine, Ed responds to the allegations brought forward by Chad Taylor (secret contract, leadsinger bonus). Sort of.

Without specifically denying anything, Ed says he does not recognize himself in the stories. "Lots of misunderstandings and an incorrect picture of my character", he says. "Live split indefinitely. Will we ever reconcile? Hard to tell, but I don't see it happening anytime soon."

Should it not hurt after twenty years of Live? Ed seems liberated other than left alone. "I had an enormous need for change. If you play in the same band for twenty years, you reach a point of saturation. I wanted something new, I wanted to keep developing. That's why I took this road. When all those disturbing stories started circulating, end of last year, I could let it slip easily. I was so focussed on my new album, my new songs, that I barely gave it attention."

yeah to say that he was so focussed on his own stuff that he barely gave the stories his attention doesn't really tell us much. Though it's the most insightful bit of information we've had since 'its not true lol'

Nice to hear a little of his reasons for his direction, but I don't believe he's being honest. His spin "I don't recognize himself with those stories" goes to spin that he beleives he may have committed no sin in what he did.

I also find it odd that he speaks freely to the press in Europe and clams it up here in the states.

Here is a decent english translation:

Ed Kowalczyk: Life after Live
Monday, May 3, 2010
His first solo album (eds. Alive) is almost ready, he has a strong new band stood behind him and in May he came to the Netherlands for the liberation festivals in Amsterdam and Haarlem in Hellendoorn Dauwpop.

Ed Kowalczyk of Live the life after. "I had enormous appetite for change."

It is the first day of April and Ed Kowalczyk tear somewhere in California when his car by the phone he talks about the baptism of fire from his new band, two weeks earlier in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. "Only a real practice session we had behind us, but the performance was brilliant. The band was like a house, the audience was crazy. "

Besides his younger brother Adam (guitar), who also occasionally played with Live, there are new musical family from Ramy Antoun (drums), Chris Heerlein (bass) and James Gabbie (lead guitar). "All of these musicians," said Kowalczyk. "Not only in the studio but on stage. Chemistry in Santo Domingo was amazing. And I must say that it also felt really good to get back to old fashioned rock. "

That rock was indeed a while ago. In recent months played Kowalczyk, Eddie K, or as his stage name is now primarily a solo acoustic shows. The last time he drums, bass guitar and was accompanied was last summer, when he was just frontman was live, the band with which he is in the nineties of the last century broke. Where the band late last year for a good line through it appears to be drawn.

Kowalczyk is not a problem to talk about Live as long as it comes to music. About the songs for example, simply remain part of his setlist. "In the Dominican Republic we played six songs and thirteen new songs live. I was somewhat nervous about how that would be: play those old songs with a new band. But it felt good, it was something fresh. "

Painful
He is more restrained as the painful separation between him and the other members of Live is covered. What was that again? Live announced last July to a two-year break. The main fresh get well into the artistic mirror, inspiration. Kowalczyk began his solo career, the three other permanent members - Chad Taylor, Chad Gracey and Patrick Dahlheimer - started the side project The Few Gracious.

In late November, however, was painfully clear that there are more to live than a creative sabbatical. Guitarist Taylor took over the Internet, some remarkable stories out about Kowalczyk. The singer was without the knowledge of his band members have signed a contract which he was the only controlling the own publishing live. Taylor also wrote that Kowalczyk for a gig at Pinkpop 2009 a lead singer of one hundred thousand U.S. dollars bonus early. Without hard to deny, Kowalczyk says not to identify with the stories. "Many misunderstandings and wrong sketch of my character." Said the 38-year-old rocker. "Live is now indefinitely apart. Whether it ever be okay? Nobody can see into the future, but for now I see it not happen. "

The end of twenty years would still live should feel like the bursting of a marriage. It would hurt to do. But Kowalczyk feel more relieved than hurt or abandoned. "I had enormous appetite for change. If you're twenty years with the same band, there comes a point of saturation. I wanted something new, I wanted me to continue to develop. I therefore this new path. Then late last year that came out nasty messages, I could easily let go past me. I was already so focused on my new album, my new songs that I hardly notice of it. "

New Album
His first solo album was recorded in Austin, Texas and was produced by CJ Eiriksson. The release was actually a little earlier planned, but a wave of creativity caused some delay. "I kept writing new songs and add," he explains. The new material is heavy Kowalczyk keywords specified. "Deep, intense, personal, spiritual." A little probing shows that it is not every acoustic album. "People will be amazed at the rock level. Think a little on the Live from the mid-nineties. The album will be available early this summer and is preceded by a single. This is one of the harder songs I've made so far. "

Even before the album released his Kowalczyk and his new band two times in the Netherlands: on May 5 during the liberation festivals in Amsterdam and Haarlem on May 13 during Dauwpop in Hellendoorn. "The link with the Netherlands has always been very close. I'm curious what you think. "Timo text Bruijns

Probably because barely anyone is interested in talking to him in the states. His bigger markets probably are Europe and here in Australia.

Still, this is probably all the proof that Nick needs now, this must constitute an iron clad argument!

Yes true that Ed's popularity is higher in Europe & Austrailia. I still don't think we'll hear anything definitive from Ed on whether he did these things unless there is some legal announcement or some reconciliation. IN the event of a reconciliation, we wont hear jack shit on those details.

That's bullshit and he knows it. I'm sure he read every single thing that was written about him. I too (and I'm sure many people) focus on other things when facing something they don't wanna face.
And if it is true then thanks for neglecting to explain your side of the story to all the Live fans.
Not shitting on Ed, I just want his side of the story and so far his statements are vague cop outs.
