I know and remember with 100% conviction that Overcome was around before V. It was an acoustic song, and I was outraged when it was sold out/redone, and made out to be a song written as a 9/11 remembrance.

There is a recording of Overcome from the TDTH demo sessions on these very multimedia forums. Full band too. So yes, it was around well before V.

Coming from a guy who followed LIVE from the beginning to its oppressive end, things are never clear cut as one side is right and the other is totally bogus with their claims. I truly believe that CT, CG, and PD were giving their all to this band because it was all they have ever really known, as a previous poster put. I also have a hard time believing that Adam is in someone responsible for their downfall as another poster put. In many ways I believe that Adam was kind of caught in the cross-hairs of a gun that was bound to go off. Sure he is the little bro of Ed, but I really believe that he respected the band and for its foundation and would not betray the trust of the others.
I like many are going to miss the best little band from a Shit Towne, but time marches on as it said. I listen to LIVE still and will continue to forever, but I realize that my best memories are of LIVE pre-V like most. I was lucky to see them nearly more times than I can count, but I'm glad I was able to see them at their very best. Long live the music and leave it at that. IF the guys ever try and pull it back together, more power to them and I'm sure I'll be there to see it, until then enjoy TGF if you will and if you like EK as well it's not a shame, enjoy. I choose to listen to their music for just that the music and not choose sides, it kinda puts a damper on my memories.

The guy who says they "phoned it in" obviously can't be taken too seriously, but I've honestly always wondered how controlling Ed can possibly have been. I mean, lyrically, sure - but musically? Why does SFBM sound so weak and frilly? Did Ed say to them HEY MAKE IT LIGHT!? If so, why did they lay down and do it?

I can't see how things nosedived so much. If the three guys really gave a shit, then I can't understand why it got so bad. Obviously it did, and somehow these things happened, but that's always confused me.

To add to your story: I remember clearly how Chad impassioned posted in 2005 (when talking about the SFBM release) something along the lines of "The new album is really a new direction for me and my band. I can't wait to find out how it will be received". Sure, it may be true he did it all to please Ed, but at some points I have to agree that Ray is right in that aspect. The 3 guys felt somehow confortable in the music they were making half way the 00ies. Also, check out the making of The River video on the SFBM DVD.

I'm not taking sides btw. Just digging up memmories to get the picture as fair as possible.

You are 100% right for I too remember having the full band live recording of it long before V.

This is the best objective logical answer one can give. Good one Poke.

I second that. Wish that I could be that objective and say that I have not taken sides but .... Great Post.

funny i was just talking about this in another thread. I do remember ed talking about sfbm during his promo tour here in australia or maybe it was for something else, but he did say something along the lines of "i wanted to pull back on the guitars for this album", so in short yes, he did ask the guys to make it light. Around the time of the Awake tour, ed was talking about the end of an era and a new dawn on the horizon for live and "wait till you hear whats next", and i think with sfbm he wanted to go back to a sound that really was where they started. Listen to who put the fear in here from DOAD, and i think he wanted to recapture that kind of poppy innocent energy. Whether or not he/they succeeded is of course another story, but i think that is an explanation or theory for why sfbm was so drastically different to everything

Make All I need a lill less polished, a bit more rough voice, and you have a DOAD song

Good stuff Wam. I think then that's the real root of musical digression between the band. They stood pat for the good of the group although they didn't agree with the idea musically.
