I'm sure someone is going to call it "great marketing" because it makes people "recall the other song and they will want to buy this album."

I wonder who that could be now?

From Nick in that link provided on the last page:

"I personally think that Ed is getting a raw deal with the break-up. The other three band members took their complaints to the net in a very immature move. They basically told one side of a story, with Ed not wanting to stoop to their level and start an internet war.

Having listened to clips from both albums, for me Ed was clearly the driving force behind Live's sound. The rest have come up with some classic rock thing. If you're a fan of that style of music, you'll like it. It just wasn't my thing. "

I like how you state Nick that they only told one side of the story, when that's pretty much all you're doing too. You can view it as Ed not wanting to stoop to their level, or you can also view it as Ed being told to hush up for legal reasons and let the men in suits do the talking, you can view it as Ed freaking the fuck out over the truth being told and blocking it all out ... they're all just as likely as each other.

Also .. "driving force behind Live's music" ... yeah of course it sounds like Live, but only Live of the last 7 years ... Ed's name is plastered all over the writing credits for the past few albums so it's no secret this shit was gonna sound like the last few Live albums, and it's no surprise that TGF stuff doesnt because the other guys wern't getting the input into the song writing process and are now doing some of the stuff they've probably wanted to explore with live for years. So saying Ed was "clearly the driving force behind Live's sound" is only true as of the last couple of albums (which were shit), so I don't think anyone is denying that.

"total CD sales exceeding 20 million"

I always think this is the saddest statement ever used to promote Live (and now, I guess, Ed.) Didn't 19.5 million of those sales come before 2001?

It's a pretty interesting coincidence though ay? THREE songs in a row with the same titles as songs by one of his biggest influences? eh.gif

Plus there's:
Rome = B52's
Sweet Surrender = Wet Wet Wet
Grace = Jeff Buckley
Just In Time = Tony Bennett

Not to mention "Everlasting Love"...

Pearl Jam's last album had song titles already used by The Doors (The End), Coldplay (Speed of Sound) and Oasis (Supersonic AND Force of Nature).

After 60 odd years of rock and roll, have we finally "run out" out song titles?! shrug.gif

The B52s song is actually "Roam", but point taken

it is sad, especially when so many bands blow those sales figures out of the water. But don't tell nick that. It's what matters most to him. I can see him collecting sound bites of people doing the 20 million sales line and turning them into an mp3 playlist to put on his iPod.

So what? You'd have to agree that a lot of bands that have much higher sales than Live are much worse bands than Live? ... so bands that have lower sales than Live can also be much better bands than Live .... this thing you have about judging music based on sales and marketing and promotion is just ridiculous.

I like Ed's single 100 X better than TGF's because for me it is just a better song.

Nickelback has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, and they are complete trash.

Nickelback should have stopped at the first album. They're songs are the same thing over and over, kind of what Live did since 2003
