QUOTE(Pokey @ May 1 2010, 12:27 pm) *

I found it quite easy to understand, but then again i view the voice as its own instrument. Sure lyrics do connect pretty deeply with me .. I'm a Morrissey fan afterall. But it's why I enjoy so much non english music, even if I have no idea at all what is being said, I can totally fall for the voice and it's use as a human instrument. I think whilst Kevin Martin's voice in this track may not be "pretty", it is exactly what is needed. And I'll be the first to state that his voice doesn't always win me over, but this ... it just worked. He had control, he seems to know his limits and won't try and make his voice do something it just isn't supposed to do ... something Ed really, REALLY needs to remember. Ed's voice back in the 90s was just supurb, one of my favorites ever ... the growl, the pronounciation of his words .. just everything. Fair enough if you don't understand the lyrics .. but this isn't just screeching. AC/DC, that is just screaching and yelling to the point you just literally have trouble working out whether he's singing or if he's stubbed his toe whilst his balls are in a vice.

I don't see a bit of difference between Kevin Martin's voice on this track and AC/DC. It harkens back to a rock that I always found tedious. A rock that all but ended when the 90's happened. Pretty ironic in that regard.

Your evaluations are so influenced by your bias towards Ed and distaste for TGF that you make ridiculous generalizations like this that make no sense at all.

I can't believe you can't tell a difference between Kevin Martin and Brian Johnson from AC/DC ... that statement is just ... wow. I mean I can see the influence and all, but to say you don't see a difference. Nick you've left me speechless. That's like saying you can't tell a bit of difference between Ed and Michael Stipe.

You mean when bands like Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, etc. became popular? Because they all featured vocals similar to those on "Honest Man."

Nick, it is fine if you don't like it. In fact, no one here cares whether you like it or not! But please, stop giving silly, illogical reasons for why you don't like it. Just say so and move on.

Nick, your skirt is showing. Your reaching so far with this nonsense, it's sickening. Go back to your facebook EddieK Promotional page and stay out of the TGF Threads. Don't try to say you want TGF to do well, you don't. Your opinion of the whole history of the band is short sighted. The air in northern NJ has polluted your sense of objectivity.

It's so refreshing to see that not everyone suckles on the teets of Ed and his soft rock/adult contemporary crap.

His hijacking of this band started with TDTH. The album had some great tracks, but the tour was really when I started to see him change. That's when we were bombarded with the high pitched falsettos that would ruin the classics, the weird dancing, and the stupid antics on stage.

V was utter trash. Lyrically, it doesn't deserve a seat at the table with MJ, TC, or SS.

Birds of Pray had a better sound, but the lyrics were bland and never reached the depth that they should have.

While I thought V was trash, I would find out that the LIVE name would be trashed even more with Songs From a Black Mountain. Now that was complete garbage.

It's good to know that the band can still rock, and Honest Man and Appetite prove that. I personally enjoy the sound of the new music and the singing style. I also enjoy Chris Cornell and his projects, and he has somewhat of a similar sound.

Welcome Aiken, feel free to speak your mind about this!.....oh you did!!! Rep points to you sir. thumbsup.gif

I'm tired of the other side of the arguement. Your assesment is spot on. 10 years have passed since Live's death nell was tolling in late 2000. I gave them a chance, hoping Ed would allow the other 3 to get back to what gave them their soul and power. Ed sold out. He wanted to be the end all be all with the band, his interviews since 2000 all stopped being 'we' and went to 'I'

Thanks. I got away from the LIVE community a few years ago, because I was tired of reading on and on about how great the new music was and how it was LIVE's greatest work to date. In reality it was the ED K solo project and his backing band the entire time.

I always joked around that you could tell if it was LIVE or Ed's solo project based on how into the songs Pat was getting. The last few times I saw them, he just stood there on stage and played.

pat's bass give the band the base.......no pun. I felt sorry for him as he was drowned out out by Railo in the tdth era. That sound you hear in honest man that sounds like a synth, is Pat with the funky bass roll. For a comparison listen to 'Sunday Afternoon in the Park' on Van Halen's Fair Warning album. It's fucking great to hear the real sound that these guys have buried away for so long.

I've been asked why I never posted here for so long. I lurked for years as a guest....when I finally deceided to get in here an post regarding the hiatus, etc..............I had to call myself OutToDry. I've been festing for years on what's happened.

I used to post a ton on Live Web back in the day. After that died, I posted a few times on the other boards, but that dried up when the music really started to go sour. With TGF, it's good to be back and enjoy good music, even if it is only 3/4 of the original lineup.

Looking at the list of concert dates in your sig, it looks like we saw some of the same shows.

I caught them on the TC, SS, and TDTH tours in Hershey, PA. Saw them at Musicfest in Bethlehem, PA in 2002. Dickenson, PA sometime around 2003, their 20th anniversary show in York, PA, and later that year at the York Fair.

Where was this? I feel like we've been bitchin' about how awful Live's later work was on this board for a long time, and it seemed more that way everywhere once V came out.

I'd take any track off of V over Honest Man any day.

You would, of course. You need to chat with that guy I referenced in the other thread. He thinks Railo's departure was the reason for the bands wane.
