Holy shit... that kicked ASS! Now we've got 2 full songs from TGF and I couldn't be happier!

One thing of note: I don't think that solo is by CT... I'm pretty sure Sean Hennesy is the lead guitarist and did the solo, but I could be wrong. CT has said many times he's not into leads and that solo isn't very CT, but I could be wrong.

I absolutely LOVE the bridge break down. Holy shit.

The new record can't be released fast enough.

Bob, In the Q&A Chad says he gives it a go on this song. i do think we do hear him soloing in the middle part of the song, but I can hear Sean too!!! Can't wait to hear this over and over.

Really? SWEET! I miss CT's solos. The fact that they're switching off is even more badass than I originally thought!

When the record comes out I can totally see a HUGE thread about which solos belong to who. lol.gif

It is a different effect for him but the solo style is there. It is really well crafted though, reminded me of some of his best work like "Graze" except better!

Sean has a really distinct style from Chad, it is much more classic rock whereas Chad's solos are based on really fast picking and short, fast, repetitive runs.

You know it. He's really annoying me with his pro Ed stance.

He's not a true Live fan in my book.

here's another link to the station:

Just because I don't like The Gracious Few's sound, which sounds nothing like Live at all, I'm not a Live fan. Makes perfect sense.

That is because you only associate the Live sound with Ed's voice. The Gracey drumming, the Taylor guitar tones and style, and the Pat bass lines; they are all there.

Hell "Honest Man" started as a fucking Live song!! To say that it sounds nothing like Live is possibly one of the dumbest things I've heard on this board (stiff competition from gotigrz).

I will agree that it sounds nothing like what Live did on SFBM, and THANK GOD!!!

If you think this song sounds anything like Live from any era, you are out of your mind.

I fell in love with Live because of the spiritual and uplifting messages the songs contained. I couldn't even decipher the majority of the lyrics in "Honest Man." It is a lead single without a hook, just screeching lyrics.

Good grief. There was more to Live than Ed. Perhaps sometime you can listen beyond the voice and hear the bass and drum beats and guitar tone that was just as distinguishable as the Live sound. You can hear a lot of this in TGF.

Dude unlike Ed in a lot of cases he seems to know the limits of his voice and have control. I don't think you're gonna hear any voices cracking at gigs like you do with Ed when he trys to sing something like The Distance. It kinda sounds like Live from the early 2009 era .. cos .. you know, musically it's the exact same song that Believe was going to be. But instead of boring stagnet lyrics that didn't fit with the music we're getting some pure rock.
I don't like screaching vocals as much as the next guy, infact AC/DC is probably my least favorite band of all time. ever. But this is nothing like that, if you can't tell the difference then you've seriously got some issues when it comes to how you hear and interprut music.

Let me guess Nick .. do you like any music with non English lyrics? I'm just curious

Yes I do. But these were english lyrics, and I couldn't get a grasp of them. It was basically just noise to me.

It may be "pure rock" but it doesn't mean that I or anyone else has to like it.

Your response completely proved my statement that you only identify Live's music with Ed.

So, no, I'm not out of my mind, and I don't really appreciate you implying so.

Got that right. Glad I don't measure everything by "What would EddieK do?" That's certainly not the standard. For that matter, what is the standard? I try not to have a measuring point. I even tried to give Eddie K the same treatment, but I still don't like it. Has nothing to do with some infatuation I have with TGF though.

It didn't employ enough overused religious cliches I guess.

And actually, the fault you are looking for in the song is that you don't like the vocal distortion they picked for it. Personally, I think it suits the song but it does make the lyrics more difficult to understand. It is a production trade-off.

As to whether the song has a hook or not, that is subjective, and I'm also quite sure these guys don't give two fucks if it has a hook. Being catchy isn't everything. I found it to be memorable enough.

But then again, I'm out of my mind so don't bother listening to me.

I found it quite easy to understand, but then again i view the voice as its own instrument. Sure lyrics do connect pretty deeply with me .. I'm a Morrissey fan afterall. But it's why I enjoy so much non english music, even if I have no idea at all what is being said, I can totally fall for the voice and it's use as a human instrument. I think whilst Kevin Martin's voice in this track may not be "pretty", it is exactly what is needed. And I'll be the first to state that his voice doesn't always win me over, but this ... it just worked. He had control, he seems to know his limits and won't try and make his voice do something it just isn't supposed to do ... something Ed really, REALLY needs to remember. Ed's voice back in the 90s was just supurb, one of my favorites ever ... the growl, the pronounciation of his words .. just everything. Fair enough if you don't understand the lyrics .. but this isn't just screeching. AC/DC, that is just screaching and yelling to the point you just literally have trouble working out whether he's singing or if he's stubbed his toe whilst his balls are in a vice.
So of course you don't have to like it, but you should still be able to recognise it for what it is. There's plenty of music out there that I don't like simpley because it's just not my thing, it doesn't exactly mean it has specific faults .. just things I don't like about it.
Ed pushing his voice too far is a fact, to deny this is just stupid.
