If, and I say if in simple comparison. If the TGF master sounds like TC final master, then consider me tickled pink. I am expecting loud.

Yep. I was not happy with even the mild re-mastering on Awake. Not a fan.

The only other thing I'll add about mastering is that if your mixes are really good, then the mastering process can usually only go badly when it is mastered too loudly.

Let's all hope that isn't the case here! I am not enough of an audiophile to dismiss an album jsut because it is loud, but I do love dynamics.

Nick, no one disputes it comes down to matter of opinion. The problem is the general consensus among Live fans and music fans alike, is that Live's recent offerings SUCK.

It's hard to argue against that.

This is not a fact.

Dude you are basically little Nick when it comes to the live for Live's recent stuff. You think "Call Me a Fool" is an all-time classic.

I said the MAJORITY of Live fans and music fans think Live sucked towards the end in terms of the quality of music and lyrics. You kid, are in the minority thinking it wasn't.

This IS fact.

It may actually be true that the majority of Live's current fans don't think the newer albums were complete shit.

Know why that is though? BECAUSE SO MANY FANS LEFT.

The evidence of the sucktitude is affirmed by the continued drop in album sales as even the dedicated fans quit caring. Album sales cannot be argued with.

I don't know who all here was a part of the internet Live community leading up the TDTH years, but it was 100 times more active and quite large. When V came out interest began to wane, and only got worse with the subsequent releases.

Do some people like the newer albums? Sure. But Live lost a lot of fans through V and BoP, which is when the majority of fans saw their music declining.

To argue with that would just be complete ignorance of the situation.

Let me put on my Nick hat here and jump in before he does:

Poor album sales have NOTHING to do with the quality of the music! Its all about the marketing, Live were horribly marketed over the past few albums and were not given a fair go for songs like Heaven, The River and Mystery to be HUGE hits. Seriously, if they were marketed properly then Obama would probably have lobbied to have the national anthem changed to The River.

But Nick, the problem is that marketing has jack-all to do with the core fans buying the product. The repeat customers left, and album sales declined.

I'm seeing the same shitty marketing happening with my other favorite band Counting Crows...they left Geffen and now are Independent..5+ years between the last 2 albums...on the last Album , Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings...the wrong single ( widely accepted among CC fans) was released...not promoted..and the song that should of been released hit #1 on the TripleA charts..another song made the top 5 and stayed there for weeks...
Marketing is HUGE for bands success...bad marketing can sink them as bad as horrible albums. I'm seeing a parallel between +Live+ & CC ...each album declines in sales...I dont think SN&SM even sold 500,000 copies..

You are completely right about this. Also, the internet was not nearly as big as it is today. Back when TDTH first came out, most people didn't even know what the internet was. Yet, here we are today, with 100 times more frequent internet users than in 1999, and the Live fanbase is barren.

How can you argue against the alienation Live caused it's own fans over the last 10 years? You really can't Nick and Beau99.

Oh and hey Beau, how about another rendition of Lightning Crashes? I need something to laugh at for the next year.

For what it's worth Counting Crows situation is quite a bit different than Live's. Taking 5 years to record a new album is rarely the fault of the label, and that IMO is what killed Counting Crows. Hardcore Counting Crows fans still bought SN&SM, whilst Live has lost theirs.

Since you are more a part of the community, what was the general fan reaction to SN&SM? Personally I thought it was a solid effort though not worth 5+ years in the making.

Thanks, OutToDry! That was really interesting.

Would you say mixing is the most important part of the process after the recording? Is that where the sound is really made or broken?

What song was the single? Which one should have been? I have a copy here but haven't really listened to it, even thought I used to listen to CC all of the time.

I think an edited Cowboys would have been a much better single from that CC album.

Yeah Cowboys is a wicked song, though easy to see why they went for YCCOM over that. Marketing, Nick! wink.gif
