You choose to live in America, and you are therefore bound to forfeit a portion of your income to the American government to do with what they please.

right... i agree... i never denied that. but you said that the gov't only takes part of what is theirs out of my income. please tell me where the rest of their money goes that i receive bi-weekly.

Who do you think pays for the defence and police forces for your safety? The subsidies given to your local schools? The roads that you drive on?

i do... i know that.... that's what i've been saying. according to you, the gov't pays for that stuff through the money that was already theirs to begin with that for some reason the filter through me on a bi-weekly basis.

And yet, you have the tenacity to suggest that "your" taxes should not be spent on providing access to healthcare for those who cannot afford it...?

once again,.. putting words in my mouth. i never said that those that can't afford it shouldn't receive healthcare. i said that those that choose to do nothing with their life and live off the working peoples paid taxes is wrong... that is all.... i've said nothing other than this. if you believe that i'm wrong for thinking this, then you're one of the lazy bums that are mooching of the gov't. depending on taxes to feed yourself and your family and fund your health insurance because you're disabled or whatever is far from what i'm talking about.... and you know it.

I'd like to hear from Gotigrz exactly what America has to do to turn itself back into the greatest country in the world again? And it can't just be "get rid of Obama". What sort of changes would you be making?

first, i would do whatever it takes to round up all illegal immigrants and send them back to where they came from. either that, or force them to become legal tax paying citizens. i would also, make those that are collecting welfare checks take drug tests before receiving their check. i know that would be expensive but they can pay for it with all the money they wouldn't be handing out to drug addicts.

honestly, i'm not a politician... i don't get into this stuff so deeply that i have sound understanding of all of it. but, i live and breath... and, i see that there is so much corruption in the system that there needs to be something done. and, telling illegal immigrants to get legal or get out or go to jail is a very simple solution to a lot of problems. think of the tax revenue that would either bring in or save.

In other words, almost half the American population pays no income taxes. And they get a heck of a lot of services and protection in exchange.

well, i ain't one of those 47%.... trust me. man, that seems high. and, you're proving my point, fish... thank you. most americans, i guess 53% are paying for the other 47% to live life like everyone else... that's not right... not for the portion of the 47% that CAN work but choose not to cause.... well, why would they???? ya know....

If you think that illegal immigrants don't want legal status, it just shows how little knowledge you have. Most illegal immigrants would do anything for legal status. If they had legal status they could go after the better-paying jobs, be covered by labour laws, take their employers to the law for non-payment of wages, etc. Oh yeah: and not risk their lives trying to get into a country that despises them.

Again, an assumption based on watching too much tv. My ex-gf is a social worker, and in fact used to work with druggies and alkies until she got attacked once too often, so I've heard all the stories. A lot of welfare recipients are just people down on their luck who haven't got the education or the street smarts or the luck to get a decent job. And a lot of them are physically disabled - and being treated like drug-addicted scofflaws is just what their shitty little lives need.

down on their luck? uh, people that are "down on their luck" receive unemployment pay for like six months or so... if you can't find a job in six months.. you're not trying. mcdonalds and wendys and burger king or any other job like that will provide insurance for their employees... you may get paid in peanuts, but it's a job and you'll have benefits. and, for the physically disabled.... i've already said that i don't mind the gov't helping these people... they NEED it. the bottom line is, is that there are people out there that are not physically disabled and can work... but, they'd rather just put in applications for jobs they know they wont get and have no intentions on getting just so they can keep their unemployment check rolling in. and, like i said, i know it ain't much, but obviously it's enough cause people do it all the time.

that guy in that link is fine to get help. he needs it. he is doing what he can to support his family. i have a niece that is a juvenile diabetic... i know how expensive their medical bills are. that man, can have whatever he needs as far as i'm concerned.

but, i'm not talking about people like him. i am strictly and solely talking about the ones that abuse the system... that is all. how can anyone argue with that?

if someone entered the country illegally- they can NOT just become a citizen! there are few, very difficult, paths to citizenship for illegal immigrants. First things first, they must be recognized as legal immigrants - and that requires any number of steps..

If you bothered to read anything, you'd realize that you don't have to be an American citizen to have taxes deducted from your pay - just an employment visa of some kind. If you want to live and work permanently in the U.S. you need a Green Card - ridiculously hard to get sometimes - for several years before you can get citizenship. But Green Cards and employment visas are generally given to the educated by preference.
