You don't know many musicians in real life do you? We are all 12 year old emo kids.

In all seriousness, it just seemed to me like they were having fun with it. I don't see any harm in that.

lol.gif Don't be such an emo. rasp.gif

This is the curse of blogs and stuff like Twitter - it's too easy to post before you think and you end up looking like a sad twat. Which is fine and dandy when nobody knows who you are in real life, but bad for a band member/public figure. Probably should have sent it privately.

i dont get it, everyone wants these guys to deliver angst-ridden emotionally charged agressive music, but at the same time react to situations like mature level headed adults with impressive self-control. nup!

Maybe they should save it for the music? You don't need impressive self control, just enough common sense to blow your stack/rant about stupid fans in private and to engage your brain before you fingers.

Senghe, they didn't blow their stack. They simply told the woman some facts which she was lacking, then they commented on her removing herself from the friend status. They were more reserved than I would be.

I just don't see where this is a rant, or even angry at all. Just looks like a bit of stupid fun to me, but then again I'm not overly sensitive.

You can make the argument that it's bad for a public figure to do something like this, but I guess I prefer for people to act how they want to act and do what they want to do no matter who they are. These guys aren't politicians or anything. Give 'em a break!

In the line-up of bad things rock n' roll stars have done (and I'm sure all those guys have done at one point or another) this is absolutely nothing.

Plus Senghe comes from the land of the gallagher's, pete doherty and lily allen .. I'd have thought she'd be wondering why the TGF boys were being such kind and gentle chaps by comparison.

Agreed we want the guys to deliver angst-ridden emotionally charged agressive music. MUSIC!! Not weird Facebook messages.

At the other hand, I think people that are surprised about it (like me, a little) are just because this way of communicating with the band is very new and wasn't possible before.
That being said, we can't really say it's a REAL surprise, when we recall Chad G's reaction to Ed's "new song".

The social media has indeed changed the way fans and band interact. The whole music landscape is a new animal.

Ahhh - that explain it. They quite obviously were neither drunk or foul mouthed enough and that offended my sensibilities. I'm actually quite disappointed the reply wasn't exactly what is in the speeh marks.

" sarcasm.gif Lady, who gives a fuck."

lol.gif

I was going to say it's childish, but then I looked back at some of my previous posts on this forum and decided to quit while I was behind on that one.

Wow. Hey, gang. Spent some time online tonight looking for something on Google from the past and imagine my surprise to find this sitting here. It's almost a year after the last reply on this topic and while usually I'd be loath to bring it up again, I'm shocked to see it even exists at all. So I'm going to.

My point in sending that message on Facebook wasn't to whine. It was to point out that I signed up for something dealing with LIVE; a LIVE mailing list. Continuing to send emails to a Live fan list with emails about another band is in poor taste and makes said emails unsolicited at that point. It was no longer what I signed up for. Either ask folks if they wish to receive continuing emails from the project a portion of the old members have begun anew, or give them an option to opt out.

Not only that, but I unsubscribed myself more than once (more than three times!) from said mailing list and yet I continued to receive emails, which pissed me off even more!

Yes - I was a snarky and perhaps I should have guarded my tongue a bit more. But seriously - unsolicited emails (IE: using a mailing list that is no longer about what it was when I signed up to try to get me to buy into something else without asking me if I want to) bugged me.

As for the reaction I got? It hurt.

I've been a Live fan since I was in high school (I graduated in 2000). After years of putting my interest, money and dedication (they were/are my favorite band of all time) into Live -shirts, concert tickets (I've seen Live six times in concert), albums I've bought (some more than once as my CDs got trashed or worn out) and promotions via word of mouth- I was rather disappointed with the chosen response, to be sure. One fan alone may not amount to much, but it certainly puts a bad taste in my mouth, now, that the band I idolized would treat "one fan" that way at all. We're all "one fan" when you break down the numbers, no?

I've directly put my pennies and support into the career and livelihood of these gentlemen, and the harshness of their response very much disappoints me. "Gracious Few"? With behavior like that? Not in my opinion.

There it is, I guess. Glad I got the opportunity to defend myself. No hard feelings and apologies if some how some stranger on the internet elevated a request of disappointment to the point people were foaming at the mouth.

Peace.

Your facebook post was downright a poor tune to sing when you were actually blasting you your favorite band members sans ed. You weren't talking to some admin.

Here's a little info That post came at a time when things were 'sensitive' between the camps. C&C&P own the mail list and since they own it, they had every right to use it to promote their new project TGF, as a good many Live fans are TGF fans. That mail list is still active for Live happenings, but guess what, they're done, probably for good, but CT will be using it to communicate what may be happening with older Live materials which may be coming into our hands. Check around here a bit and you'll find the threads. Things seem amicable and if you check out LIVE on facebook, you'll see CT has been giving some update status' there while he recooperates from his surgery. No hard feelings. Most folks took your post the way I did.

No argument that they CAN use it however they see fit. My concern is that I didn't want to receive the information I began to get, and no one asked me if I wanted to. I signed up for something specific and was then receiving emails I didn't want on something else entirely.

Again, even when I tried to remove myself, I couldn't. It told me I had "sucessfully unsubscribed" (or some variation there of - it was a confirmation) and yet the emails I didn't' want kept rolling in.

I also think swearing at someone is a completely inappropriate way to get their message across. What you just said, which was friendly and polite even though the message is clearly received, could have worked just as well. There's never a reason to resort to four letter words - especially when you people have put energy into you and your successes.

Thanks for taking the time to respond amicably, though. Much appreciated.

Wait.

TGF is totally unrelated to Live?

Fuck this, I'm outta here!!

lol.gif

One important note missed here is that the mailing list owners don't have any control over how the "opt out" functions actually work. It is just a fact of the business. Get a good e-mail system and mark them as spam, there isn't much at all they can do about it from the top other than hoping it works like its supposed to.

Also, I don't see the profanity in their response. huh.gif

Ignorance is no excuse for spamming people. I think you'll find that the penalties for sending out unsolicited emails are quite severe. Many corporations (Virgin for example) have been fined recently when their 'unsubscribe' functionality didn't work.

If you run a mailing list, then it's your responsibility to ensure that emails are only sent to those who request them and you must take action when a person opts out.
