But names like "Freaks," "Rattlesnake" and "Heropsychodreamer" are far more interesting than "Drive" or "Grace."

...kinda what I just said

QUOTE(dangum @ Mar 20 2010, 8:26 am) *

Found a video of Ed performing a new song supposedly titled: Drive

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zu6GZ_PYTw

It seems here that Ed is producing BoP2 with just one improvement - the voice. Other than that, Zion, Grace and Drive indicate that Ed's new sound does not have to do with Live and it is on par with what he has been making in the last few years.

So, with Ed's standards Ed's samples are decent, but with Live's standrards Ed's songs fall outside the raw and heavy sound of TC and SS.

Whoever upped the video had "Live" in the title. Was it "Live" as in Live or "Live" as in "Live"?? I support Ed I guess, but I'd like to see it be from less of Live's success.

The association with Live is going to be central to the success of both acts, it's something they all contributed to for 20 years so why not use it?

Oh, the song... yawn.

spot on.....the shift in competing artistical philosophies has led us to today, regardless of what has been said Ed did. That's been my yawner since 2001. I stand firmly in the TC/SS sound camp.

I guess I'm in the middle as TDTH is my favorite album all time and it seems that really started the shift.

As for Drive...I have no opinion if I like it or not. Need a better quality recording.

I agree we need a better quality of recording but it seemed to have a cool beat and vibe to the song. I liked it even with the poor quality. Has anyone seen a setlist from this show? I seemed as if Drive was the opening song of the concert to me. Anyone else think that or know? So far though considering I have heard Zion, Grace, and Drive, I am liking what I am hearing. I know its not TC but that was a different time and era. People need to accept that. I think the new songs weve heard so far are way better than anything on SBFM except for Show and Where Do We Go From Here?

This song sounds like it could be really good. So far it has the potential to be my fav on his album. It sounds very Live-like to me.

I'm happy found solid musicians to back him up, otherwise things could have gotten messy.

Yeah, I have to agree. But then again, I haven't hated anything Live or Ed has done over the years... it's always been better than most of the stuff my friends listen to. wink.gif

TDTH is a great album but it carried the seed of Live’s destruction. It had two main changes compared to the first three albums, which, I think, placed the grounds for what followed:
1. Band members received credits separately. This is not necessarily bad, many bands do it, but it introduced a more individualistic element to Live’s working environment.
2. TDTH introduced a pop sound to Live’s music. Songs like The Distance, Sun, They stood up for love, and Face and Ghost are good examples.

none of those things are bad, pop can be good when done right. and those songs were extremely creative and in some cases experimental. that was all lacking on sfbm

What songs? The ones i label as pop/rock off TDTH? I agree, the difference between TDTH and the Live albums in 2000s is that TDTH still had energy and creative lyrics.

It depends on how you define pop music. Because I listen to a lot of progressive rock, jazz, classical, etc. nearly all of Live's music falls under the pop label for me because it has:

-Simple chord structures
-Standard song form
-Only the rare instrumental section
-Choruses with often catchy hooks

There are songs that don't fall into the pop mold (WD, You are the World, TDAOC, LK) but there aren't many.

That is why I would say that TDTH, including the song credit changes, marked a big shift towards positivity. It did it in a classy and intelligent way though, which is what makes the newer albums so disappointing.

V even had some interesting songs, but the whole product smelt of cashing in on the current trends in rock music. After that things got really stale really quickly.
