QUOTE(pizan0 @ Mar 13 2010, 10:44 am) *

It's hard to bleed a man
Hard to bleed a man
When you know where he's falling to
Hard to bleed a wall
Hard to bleed a wall
When the bricks and the sand are you

And although we were very thirsty
I question the oasis
And although we were very lonely
I question the woman's love
Question the Gods above

Hard to bake the bread
Hard to bake the bread
When you're standing outside of the kitchen
Hard to join the dance
Hard to join the dance
When you know the song is poisoning everyone
When you know the song is poisoning everyone

When you know where he's falling
Question...
Yeah, you know where he's falling
Question...
The woman's love, the Gods above.

Now that just made me sad. What does it say when someone could write better lyrics twenty years ago than they can now?

Sorry to make you sad - I feel the same. I think Ed is a phenomenal performer and singer. But his best songwriting days are behind him. Sure, I'm biased in that I enjoy the more thought-provoking, anti-religious/angsty lyrics and music that Live used to bring. But, I actually also really enjoy happier moods like TDTH. The difference between Ed's new stuff and TDTH is that the lyrics on TDTH were not as formulaic and uninspired. And although I cringe thinking of the Daughtry comparison, its true! This sounds like Daughtry and that's not a good fucking thing, guys!! For the love of god (no pun intended) Ed K is (or should be) light years better than Daughtry!! I don't think it will ever sit well with me, but I will have to accept the fact that all of this stuff Ed is doing now is a total change in priority and philosophy. For better or for worse, I don't think the old Live fans will ever get the sound they yearn for ever again. Shit moves on, as we've seen over the last few months.

And for the record, I think TGF's music rocks (I'm very proud of the Live boys), but I can't really say the same about Kevin Martin...dare I say that I think he brings the songs down.

That's the thing .. I couldn't in my wildest dreams see Daughtry making a song that would reach the depth and creativity as Ghost, Gas Hed, TBD or Where Fishes Go ... Ed has done that. Yet now, Ed is writing what Daughtry can only do .. we KNOW Ed is capable of so much more, the fact that he doesn't strive for the same level as he once wrote at is frustrating. Subject matter aside, he proved with TDTH he could write positive uplifting lyrics that were genuinely quite beautiful and creative.

QUOTE(VoodooLady @ Mar 12 2010, 5:10 pm) *

i crave 90's style alternative rock.. Alice in Chains, Rage against the Machine, Beck, Incubus, The Nightwatchman -- with an edge- be it lyrically and/or musically -- the better - its why i fell in love w/Secret Samahi

I'm with LiveFan92 here:

QUOTE(LiveFan92 @ Mar 12 2010, 8:47 pm) *

Interestingly, I loved Live in the 90s (grew up in York) but never got into the above bands. All of their stuff was just kind of "blah" and the same to me. None of those other bands, in my opinion, have ever done anything as great as TC or SS. But you probably feel differently. Just goes to show that different people must like different things about Live, eh?

Now I didn't grow up in York and I didn't care for any of the above. I disliked Beck intensely (I thought he was precious) and I liked the idea of Rage against the Machine better than the reality. I went from glam metal to Live.

I liked Live because every album was different, an evolution, and they had a way with a hook (until SS) that just wouldn't quit.

Two words: Paul McCartney. When I listen to the early Beatles stuff that my parents gave me as my first musical presents, and then to the 70s crap he produced it makes me sad. Some composers need that edge or that push. McCartney got it from Lennon and Harrison. Ed stopped getting it from the guys or from within (to judge by BOP) a while ago.

No falsetto, either.
how do you get rid of your falsetto???

Vocalists who can do falsetto don't have to use it constantly. thumbsup.gif

Ohw, waw, there is actually someone on this board aside from me that really likes (or at least knows!) Manic Street Preachers !!

They are one of the few bands that can still pull something as intelligent and relevant to say as when they first started nearly 20 years ago. Though I prefer Nicky Wire's songwriting to a lot of Richey Edwards' as he was more troubled than Kurt Cobain and I could see just as easily that it would not end well. I understand more where Nicky is coming from I think - the fragments that I do understand of where Richie was coming from I don't want to go to.

I prefer Nicky Wire's songwriting to Richey Edwards' as well, although using Richey's songlyrics for the last album (JFPL) was a very interesting idea.

I must admit I haven't checked that album out yet.

Wow this song is great! I wasn't expecting something like this. Just downloaded it and listened to it 8 times in a row.

I think some of you people should lighten up a bit

The only version of the song on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkZbuwdfUDY) has all kind of Haïti footage in it. probably fan made (I guess), but it seems that more people link this song to the distaster over there. I really dont hope Ed is gonna push the song by saying it's about Haïti, that would we really wrong (unless he gives all the money that he gets to Haïti, like LIVE did with the Overcome single).

You know, I keep listening to Grace and I have to say, I really like it. I still get a little vomit in the back of my throat from the faith and grace and Lord lyrics, by my goodness, I think this is the best song to come out of Ed's head since TDTH (except maybe for Heaven). It was stuck in my head the whole night the other night. It has a great vibe to it and I just love listening to Ed's voice. That "you were wrong" part is really pretty great.
