It's definitely different than I thought it would be. And that's why I like Ed's music. You never really know what you're gonna get. Luckily for me, I like most of what he puts out. I think this song is great, I'm impressed with his voice, the way he sings, the mood, the beat, the direction, all of it. The reason I'm not into bands like U2 and REM is because their music is predictable to me. I don't care if this makes it to radio. I'm just thrilled that we're getting another album with songs from Ed, and so far I'm loving it.

Yeah, I remember when I felt that way. When I heard White Discussion for the first time, I thought wow, that's different than MJ, and it's great. Same thing when I heard Freaks. The more Ed-centric things became the less I felt that way. If the later Live music resonated with you then you are probably an Ed fan. I'm separating the two, there's Live and there's Ed. The only thing is, it's hard to draw a line where the two split. But it's somewhere in the post TDTH era for me.

Seriously?

This Grace tune is as predictable as they come from the song structure to the instrumentation. Listen to any Daughtry or Nickelback single and you'll hear the same sound.

Plus, if you don't think U2's music has changed over the years then that is just absolutely insane.

Hmmnnnn.......it shouldn't be a competition. But I like this better than the whiny sound of Kevin and TGF.

Commercial though.

It doesn't sound anything like Zion or anything else he's done recently. Name a song from Ed that sounds like this. What type of sound would you be content with?

Yes but sounds like everything else on HOT A/C radio, just probably wont chart as well...I used to make fun of the Nickelbacks, etc. of the world and all Ed has become lately is a much less successful version of them. SFBM was a HUGE failure at trying to be pop music. Zion is a step in the right direction and this song is better than almost everything on SFBM (i actually like Sofia a lot) but still pales in comparison to even the worst songs on the first 4 cd's/alot of songs on BOP. Not trying to be negative here, I want ed to be successful as much as anyone, i guess im just confused as to how someone's lyrical and experimental talent dominishes so rapidly over the years.

Lyrics.... as far as I can hear them!

Grace Lyrics

Spend a little time standing on the front lines
And you really can’t talk at all
Your mind begins to wonder
Is there any love at all

The photographs you took
Yeah there was something in their eyes
Every saint used to be a sinner
Every man used to be a child
You said it was all inside my mind

You were wrong, there was grace
You saw the enemy, I saw your face
People like you and I, spinning through space
You were wrong, I still have faith
I still have faith

Every time, I feel the sunshine
I thank the Lord up above
For seeing something I couldn’t see at all
Coming down hard, the feeling’s all wrong
Where are we gonna hide?
My wings are feeling clipped now
And all I wanna do is fly

You were wrong, there was grace
You saw the enemy, I saw your face
People like you and I, spinning through space
You were wrong, I still have faith
I still have faith, yeah

Something’s gotta give,
Get up
Stand up
See through it
Gotta get this message to you
Your set of lies, don’t be ashamed
There’s just no reason
Live to dream

You were wrong, there was grace
You saw the enemy, I saw your face
People like you and I, spinning through space
You were wrong, there was grace
You were wrong, but I still have faith

It is a formulaic sound built just for modern pop rock radio. I would even prefer the sound of DWLF rather than Ed trying to sound like Daughtry, David Cook, etc.

Saying this doesn't sound like Zion or Forever is quite a stretch. It is clearly more produced but the songwriting is just as formulaic and blah.

I am glad that both parties are now creating the music that they want. I personally can hear in the songs that both Ed and TGF really believe in the music that they are making and that's what music is suppose to be about. Some of the greatest songs created were mainstream "generic" pop songs and some of the some the greatest songs ever were classic rock songs. There is room for both genres, one is not better than the other IMO (although I'll admit I'm not the biggest classic rock fan).

Neither one of these albums are going to revolutionize music and neither were meant to. I don't know if I'll like both albums or not, but I'm just gonna enjoy the ride and see where it goes. I do favor Ed's music right now, as it fits my tastes more, but I hope both are succesful and will support both. As long as they are making the music that they want, that's all that matters. Can't please everyone.

By the way, I think the production on all the songs so far (Ed and TGF) is going to be much better than the previous 3 albums.

Gotta admit, something I always dig about Live's older stuff is how it exists like in it's own world. Never come across stuff like TC, TDTH or SS before. They're all really unique albums, so even if you don't "get" it or it doesn't sell well, it's just like... really unique art, lots of integrity with it etc.

Here, though I like it as said, Ed is now existing in a world with TONNES of other artists, and he's not as good as many others. I wonder how Chris Daughtry feels, to look at the guy who created SS, TC etc - he must have, like us, put him on this pedestal way above as this totally fucking genius artist creator or whatever... and now it's like... he's mortal. He's normal. He's not that good anymore. sad.gif

Kinda sucks. I don't know...

I think you're being a little over-dramatic.

Ed is still plenty good. He is actually one of the most talented performers out there, especially when he commands the stage during a solo gig. "Grace" is a very catchy pop/rock song. Why should Ed release a single that wouldn't have at least a shot at gaining airplay on commercial radio? That wouldn't make any sense. I'm not saying this song will be a huge hit, because a ton of factors depend on that. But Grace at least will give Ed a shot at one, which is pretty cool in my opinion.

Thanks to whoever ripped this and put it up where we can listen to it.

I'll start by saying I'm a Christian and I like some Christian rock/metal bands. Red is a good one if anyone wants to check them out. Demon Hunter if anyone likes metal. But back to the single. I agree that it sounds very generic. I don't hate it but I wouldn't have listened to it all the way through if it was anyone other than Ed. I like Zion pretty well though. Everlasting Love is about the same as Grace to me. I actually like Daughtry but his music doesn't stand up over the test of time like old LIVE does. It is too generic and Grace sounds a lot like it. But if it makes Ed happy, cool. I'll buy the album because I love LIVE. The same reason I'll buy TGF's album. Overall, I still love Ed's voice but I like the songs and music from TGF better.

I'll also say that I'm not sure Ed is a Christian now. I think he embraces a lot more things about Christianity but I'm not sure he would call himself a Christian.
