listening again exestentialist said it right; this is trash. When i heard mall rat and especially photograph recently it was like seeing an old friend. and not just for nostalgic reasons but those songs, as old as they are, still challenge you and inspire debate (i still say its "till the maggots hide"), whereas this is just straight down the line and inoffensive. Yawn. pokey is right, loud doesnt equate to heavy. There's a reason im a fan of live, and this song is so far removed from that.

It shouldn't be a competition between Ed Kowalczyk and The Gracious Few, and there is no reason not to support both bands. The positive thing about the split is that each group is making the music that they want, and it gives the fans more opportunity to find music that they will enjoy.

I'm hoping that both projects do well.

Yeah, it's pretty damn formulaic and missing the immense depth of the old work. But that said, in it's own context, I like this song. smile.gif

Damn, the vocal starts doing it to me.

Watch how it grows.

Or is it self-cheating?

Spinning some Ed tracks now. Zion is first up, and I like it. Grace is next, and I do kind of like it. I dig the Daughtry sound connection, and I think his voice sounds *ok*. Although it's still nowhere near the likes of old Live, I think it does have an extra weight that most of SFBM didn't have. It's alright, and should sit well on an album with Zion.

Honestly, I think I'll enjoy Ed's album more than TGF. I don't really enjoy the old rock sound of TGF, or KMs vocals, and so even thoguh Ed's new still has it's faults, there's a safe familiarity with it all. And I don't dislike any songs he's produced since breaking out on his own.

Ok. Let me have. *closes eyes, awaiting gunshots*

No need for gunshots....to each his/her own. If Ed's style is what you like so be it.

I am a big classic rock fan......I have always been partial to that side of music genre....hence I will embrace TGF for the sheer fact, they are doing rock music.

Great post Wam. I agree, I didn't feel the same listening to Grace as I did those songs. But we are so picky now. If we heard Grace, as a recovered Live song from yester-year, we may be more forgiving. But because Ed is this and that nowadays, it's easy to criticise. I don't think this song is trash. There are some aspects I like, some I don't. It's nothing special, but like Merica I can enjoy it within its own context, for what it is. If I want something harder, faster or edgier, there are other bands I can listen to. I hope he has every success with it, on whatever station it ends up on.

Edit: also, thank you iateyourcookie for uploading this for us (and Dan for trying)

I think this song is an older Live vaulted song, lyrics and melodies by EdK

I think Ed said the lyrics were inspired by the Haiti earthquake? did I hear that right? That might have happened to recently to influence his lyrics for the record, but I think I heard something like that.

I listend to it 3 times about 5 hours ago and have had absolutely no desire to hear it since, didn't instinctivly load it on the iPhone... With mall rat by comparison I listend to it over and over and it was cling with me when I left the house because I just wanted to keep hearing it... This I don't.

On third listen, it's a good song which should chart on the pop charts, AC, etc. It's very Matchbox20, Daughtry. I haven't any other expectations on it.

It's impossible to hear this and not think, this is the guy that did Lakini's Juice? Or this is the guy that did White Discussion? Man, I wish Ed could have aged more like one of his idols Bono. Take it or leave it, U2 has managed to age gracefully and at least maintain some semblance of the identity and sound they've always had. Live could have had a career arc similar to theirs or REM's. Instead we get this. I'm really trying to be diplomatic, because this song and Ed really lend themselves to some pretty harsh criticism. Even more so, considering his past. If I didn't know who Ed was, I would have absolutely zero interest. I know there are those that will say the same thing about TGF, but at least it is rock music, and it's much closer in spirit to Live. At least I can believe they were involved in Lakini's Juice and White Discussion.

ya, exactly...0 resemblance to live's old music...during an interview at one point ed said that TDTH was too mature of an album for their age and that he shouldve made that CD when he was 40...man that would be amazing, TDTH is light years ahead of this stuff

It's definitely different than I thought it would be. And that's why I like Ed's music. You never really know what you're gonna get. Luckily for me, I like most of what he puts out. I think this song is great, I'm impressed with his voice, the way he sings, the mood, the beat, the direction, all of it. The reason I'm not into bands like U2 and REM is because their music is predictable to me. I don't care if this makes it to radio. I'm just thrilled that we're getting another album with songs from Ed, and so far I'm loving it.
