Yes, because we know all of the facts about this "secret recording contract." What I heard was that Ed was getting all of the royalties from the publishing rights for the songs he wrote for the last few albums. You know, those last couple of albums that most people around here hate anyway? He did the writing -- which everyone is happy to point out if they don't like the albums -- so why shouldn't he get paid for any publishing rights? The other guys in the band felt they should get a share of those rights even though they didn't write the music. Ed disagreed. These things happen. Some members of the band are being more mature about the split than others, that much is for sure.

How would you explain the $100,000 lead singer bonus Ed asked for? Can it be wrapped in the same understandable sensibilities?

Ed is greedy. We all know this. The guys weren't getting their equal share and the band fell apart. If the money was split 4 ways like it should have been, they would still be together.

That occurred at the end of Live's run. Anyone who attended a show this May or June saw the band's infrastructure cracking. Ed probably didn't want to do the show, so he requested an outragious bonus to get out of it.

Ed never requested such a bonus before, why would it happen all of a sudden? We are not getting the whole story.

The publishing contracts actually make more sense now. Ed wanted to full rights on the songs that he wrote on his own. It does make sense. It is a shame that the band couldn't work together on most of their songs the last few years, but whats done is done. New directions are better for all involved(for right now anyway).

Which brings up the point of what exactly does the word BAND mean. Last I checked, it meant a group of musicians working together to make music. Not one guy doing it all his way and (speculation, but probably true) threatening to leave if he don't get his way.
And I've mentioned before in a post few months back somewhere that the guys were probably a little scared to break things off. You know, being in the one band all their working lives. Their only real job. But one can only take so much till they can't take no more. And that's what happened and here we are.

Care to write them here? His Adam & the Weight page is no longer avail it seems.

Hence this may be another festering wound I believe....when Ed & the guys added Adam so Ed could 'focus' on singing........I accepted it at the time as a nice gesture.

Adam added a ton to the stage shows. His voice was the perfect complement to Ed, and he was a heck of a performer for Live. Adam earned his way into Live, it was more than a nice gesture.

I think Adam's contributions to the band on stage were very well received by many, including me.

I want to know what he said SJN.

I can't find it anymore, but it was something to the effect that people need to grow up. I think he deleted it. However his recent post about learning new ROCK songs, I felt was an indirect shot at TGF.

Wouldn't it be smarter for him to just stay out of it?

It is what it is. He's not in a neutral position to comment, in my opinion. He's blood to Ed and won't be offering anything neutral. The other 3/4 is not commenting on this anymore, which is nice to see. More important things on tap.

if he used the $100k lead singer bonus as a way out instead of say, just being open with his friends of 20yrs.. Don't you think that's still pretty bad? He either has some major issues with confrontation, or respect.

Signing a publishing contract without the band's knowledge is also a big, big problem, whether he was writing most of the songs or not at that point. Those contracts have a lot of layers so these things can be done easily as long as the right people are involved.

I know we all don't want to think foul play happened here, but the music business is a nasty, nasty place.
